PROF. DR. EDMUND TERENCE A/L ERIC BONIFACE GOMEZ

Edmund Terence Gomez Gomez is Professor of Political Economy at the Faculty of Economics & Administration, Universiti Malaya. He specializes in state-market relations and the linkages between politics, public policies, and enterprise development -- a subject on which he has published extensively, writing not only for academia but also more widely.  He has held appointments as Visiting Professor at: the School of International Relations & Pacific Studies at the University of California-San Diego, USA (2014-2015); the Department of Political Science at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, USA (2013-2014); and at Kobe University, Japan (May-August 2002). Other academic appointments include Visiting Fellowships at: the Nordic Institute of Asian Studies, Denmark (October-November 2004); the Australian National University, Canberra (February 2002); and at the Asian Studies Department, Murdoch University, Australia (January-December 1993). He was also Senior Research Fellow at the Department of East Asian Studies, Leeds University, United Kingdom from 1996-1999. From 2005-2008, Terence served as Project Manager and Research Coordinator of the programme area ‘Identities, Conflict and Cohesion’ at the United Nations Research Institute for Social Development (UNRISD) in Geneva, Switzerland. He has undertaken various research projects and convened numerous international conferences–among others, on political-business linkages in East Asia; the growth of national and transnational ethnic Chinese enterprise; the history of Chinese communities and their enterprises in Australia, Britain and Southeast Asia; ethnic conflict and social cohesion in Asia; equity distribution and government intervention in Malaysia –all of which have received funding from various local and global agencies, including the Sasakawa, Sumitomo and Toyota Foundations of Japan, the Department of Education and Training in Australia, the Christensen Fund (USA), the British Academy, and the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) of the United Kingdom. He serves on the editorial board and advisory committee of the following international journals: East Asia: An Internationaal Quarterly, Journal of Current Southeast Asian Affairs, Sojourn: Journal of Social Issues in Southeast Asia and Asian Journal of Comparative Politics. He is also editor of the 'Chinese Worlds' Series and the 'Malaysian Studies' Series for Routledge, London & New York.

PROF. DR. RAMESH KASI

Dr Ramesh Kasi graduated PhD from University of Malaya in 2007. His research interests focus with emphasis on electrochemistry applications in polymer materials which are used in energy storage systems and corrosion protection. He joined as Senior Lecturer in Physics Department in 2010 and got promoted as Associate Professor in 2017. He is teaching undergraduate and postgraduate level students. 22 PhD and 23 MSc have been graduated under the guidance of Dr Ramesh and currently 11 PhD and 2 Master degree students are pursuing their studies under his supervision. He has served in many administrative positions as Programme Coordinator, Treasurer for the Centre for Ionics University of Malaya, Course file coordinator, Curriculum Review Committee for MSc Applied Physics and Industrial Training Coordinator. He has published more than 230 research papers in high ranked journals having 6178 citations and H-index of 43. He has been successful in securing substantial funds for research from University of Malaya (UMRG and UMRP) and Malaysian government funding agencies (FRGS), international funding like Erasmus+, Nippon Sheet Glass Foundation. He has got 2 Malaysian patent granted and 2 patent filed for his credit. He is also a senior member in leading professional associations. Dr Ramesh has been elected as the Fellow in Royal Society of Chemistry (UK) and Institute of Materials Malaysia. He has received several awards and medals in participating international technological expo including ITEX, MTE, PECIPTA, IRIISE and BioMalaysia. He won Tun Lim Keng Yaik Award for best invention in technology reversing climate change (ITEX 2023), WINNER – category 1 - Gold Award - International Borneo Innovation, Exhibition & Competition 2023 (IBIEC 2023), Automotive Excellent Award (1st Place)- 12th Creation, Innovation, Technology & Research Exposition (CITREX 2022), Gold Award, and Best Award, AIIREX 2022, ASIAN INVENTION EXCELLENCE AWARD, ITEX 2021, Automotive Special Award – 1st Place- CITREX 2021, Special Award - MTE 2020 - Croatia Inova, Malaysian Technology Expo, 2020, Professional Special Award - International Research Innovation, Invention & Solution Exposition (IRIISE 2018), International Eureka Innovation Exhibition (iEIE 2017) Best Award in “Environmental Protection and Renewable Energy” category, CHAMPION – RM 50,000 Project Award, UTP Innovation Competition in conjunction with UTP 20th Year Anniversary Celebration, "The Best Award" in Malaysian Technology Expo (MTE 2016)- BioPE-DSSC: Biopolymer Electrolyte Based Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells as Green Energy Source, Best Poster presentation ICFMD 2015, ITEX 2015 and Best Invention Award, Pecipta 2013 Gold Medal, Best of the Best Award in Electrical and Electronics Category. He has been awarded as the Best Reviewer of the year 2015 by Emerald Publications. He has involved in organizing international conferences (ICFMD 2013, 2015, 2019, 2021 Solar Asia 2013, CoMSE 2023. and international advisory committee in many international conferences) and participated as panel of judges in national science fair for children. Dr. Ramesh has been invited as keynote, plenary and invited speaker in various international conferences throughout the world. He has been awarded as Excellent Service Certificate in 2018 at University of Malaya.

DR. MOHD YAZED BIN AHMAD

Dr. Mohd Yazed Ahmad is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Biomedical Engineering, Universiti Malaya. His academic and research journey centers on interdisciplinary innovation, particularly the fusion of engineering, medical technology, and embedded systems. He obtained his Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering with a focus on wireless passive sensing, RF-based system design, and intelligent embedded diagnostics. Dr. Yazed’s research interests span across smart healthcare systems, AI-powered sensing, and low-power wireless communication technologies. He has led and contributed to multiple impactful projects including novel modified-Hemlholtz coil for wireless power transfer tested for wireless capsule endoscope, novel weatstone-bridge antenna for fine grain positioning within RF near-field extending RFID capabilities, passive LC sensors for intraoral diagnostics, RF energy harvesting for wearable health monitoring, and real-time IoT platforms for Smart City solutions such as street lighting and waste management systems. He is also actively involved in national innovation programs such as MyHackathon, from which he founded a solution team, offering engineering and smart infrastructure solutions. He supervises researc projects in biomedical AI systems, e-stethoscopes, and embedded medical electronics, and regularly collaborates with clinicians and industry partners. In his role as an educator, he is also the course coordinator for Programming and Numerical Methods, emphasizing MATLAB and C++ for biosystem modeling. Dr. Yazed contributes to institutional advancement through curriculum design, industrial training coordination, and as an advisor to the Biomedical Engineering Student Club. His goal is to bridge medical needs and technological advancements through ethical, sustainable, and high-impact engineering innovations.
