Rozie Sarip hails from Shah Alam, Selangor but studied for both his BSc (2004) and MSc (2007) at the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Skudai, Johor of Malaysia. She obtained her PhD (2012) in Inorganic Chemistry at the University College London, London, United Kingdom in the group of Dr Graeme Hogarth FRSC (now at King's College London) and work closely as a joint student with Prof Gopinathan Sankar FRSC. She joined SIRIM Bhd. (August 2006) for two months as an Associate Researcher before being promoted to Research Officer at the Institute for Medical Research (IMR), Kuala Lumpur from October 2006. After succesfully graduated for her PhD, she came back to serve IMR for another year before she was appointed to a lectureship at University of Malaya (UM) beginnning on the 10th of March 2014. She is a Member of the Royal Society of Chemistry, UK as well as Malaysian Institute of Chemistry.   Research areas of interest include : - Binuclear and Cluster Chemistry - Homogeneous and Heterogeneous Catalysis - Phosphines and  Diphosphines Stabilized Clusters Synthesis - Thiazoline Derivatives Synthesis   Work in the Rozie's group will be centres on the chemistry of the transition metals. We are interested in a range of different aspects of these and tackle problems of both a fundamental and applied nature. In general we approach things from a molecular aspect and the first port of call is the synthesis of new transition metal complexes. We make extensive use of NMR spectroscopy and X-ray crystallography and encourage a hand on approach by students. We are also interested in the design of new ligand types and using molecules as precursors to nanomaterials. Many of our projects have an end-goal in the area of catalysis, especially homogeneous catalysis and catalysis by nanoparticles but we are also expanding the applications in bio-inorganic field such as drug delivery system and anti cancer and anti malaria properties. We collaborate extensively and have active research partnerships with various local and international groups.   Clusters are compounds that contain three or more metal ions and by judicious choice of synthetic pathway(s) is it possible to prepare such materials containing a diverse range of metal types. Our interest in cluster chemistry centers on low valent compounds especially those containing different metal ions such that cooperative effects between these can lead to the development of otherwise unattainable chemical and physical properties. Most of our work in the area is of a fundamental nature but we also seek use these compounds as precursors to metal nanoparticles for applications in catalysis. A recent highlight in this regard is the controlled synthesis of small gold nanoparticles from pre-formed gold-phosphine clusters. We also have an interest in the (artificial) interface between large low valent clusters and small metallic nanoparticles as a detailed understanding of the properties of the monodisperse clusters can lead to insight into those of nanoparticles.

Ts.Dr. Siti Hajar Halili is an Associate Professor at the Universiti Malaya, Kuala Lumpur. She is also a Professional Technologist (Ts) from the Malaysian Board of Technology (MBOT). Currently, she is the Head of the Department of Curriculum & Instructional Technology. She was formerly with the Research Division, Prime Minister Department, Malaysia. She holds a Degree in Information System Management from the University Technology MARA, a Master's in Educational Technology, and a Ph.D. in Adult Education Technology from the University Sains Malaysia. Her works are published in ISI, SCOPUS, Malaysian and International journals. She has also published books and chapters in books. She has received awards such as the Deans’ Award, Best of Presentation Award, Excellent Service Award, Gold Award, The Most Outstanding Reviewer, Appreciation Certificate from Jabatan Pendidikan Selangor, and scholarships from MyBrain15 and USM Fellowship. She has broad experience in teaching and training in Instructional Design & Technology. She was Chief Editor of Jurnal Penyelidikan Pendidikan, and article reviewer for several journals and conferences. She is also appointed as the university open distance learning (ODL) expert, Programme Coordinator for the university ODL and Master of Instructional Technology program, Head of Auditor for the faculty of education, and one of the University Malaya Family Research & Development Center committee members. She is active in research and publishes in Instructional Design in Technology-Enhanced Learning (ID-TeL) (Flipped Learning & Open Distance Learning), Open Education and Digital Curriculum.

Bibliography: Professor Dr Wan Haliza Abd. Majid (2021)   Dr Wan Haliza Abd. Majid graduated with Bachelor in Physics from University College of Wales, Aberystwyth, UK in 1988. Initially, she worked in the Physics department, University Malaya as a tutor from 1990-91 while she was completing her Master’s Degree. Upon completing her PhD in 1994 from the University of Sheffield (UK), she was attached to the Matriculation Centre (PASUM) from 1994-2000, University Malaya as a lecturer before transferring to the Physics Department in 2000. Currently, her research interest is related to pyroelectric and ferroelectric properties of organic materials, fabrication and device characterization of an organic light-emitting diode (OLED) and photo-sensing and signal processing of biomaterials, quantum dots, and their applications. She has participated in many seminars, workshops, conferences and community engagement projects related to the Physics education program. Her involvement in research led her to lead (Principle Investigator) various research grants since the year 2000 which include, Short Term Research Fund (PJP-UM), University Malaya Research Grant (UMRG), High Impact Research Grant (HIR-UM), Exploratory Research Grant Scheme (ERGS-MOHE), ScienceFund (MOSTI), Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS-MOHE) and Long Term Research Grant (LRGS-MOHE).  She has been invited as one of the panel reviewers/evaluators for various grants awarded by MOHE and MOSTI at the university and national level since 2012. Internationally, her involvement as one of the panel reviewers for the Slovak Research And Development Agency starts from the year 2016 until recently. Currently, she is the Head of Low Dimensional Materials Research Center (LDMRC) (since 2016), the Chief Editor of Malaysian Journal of Science (MJS) (since 2020), the Chairperson for MASS Chapter of University Malaya (since 2019) and Committee member for Institute of Physics (IFM) (since 2021). She was appointed as Deputy Dean of Research and Higher Degree at the Faculty of Science (2010-2014), Dean (2017-2019) and Deputy Dean (2016-2017) of Institute of Postgraduate Studies (IPS). She is committed to equipping graduates at the tertiary level with knowledge, technology and values that can be used to interact positively with society at large.
