Dr. Norrima Mokhtar is an accomplished academic and researcher in Electrical Engineering, specializing in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Sensors, Automation, Image Processing, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Brain-Computer Interface (BCI), Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), and Robotics. She earned her Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) in Electrical Engineering from the University of Malaya in 2000. After graduation, she gained hands-on experience in the International Telecommunication Industry, including a role at Echo Broadband GmbH. In 2002, she was awarded the prestigious Panasonic Scholarship after a rigorous national selection process, allowing her to pursue a Master of Engineering in Oita, Japan, which she completed in 2006. Upon returning to academia, Dr. Norrima joined the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Malaya as a lecturer. Committed to continuous growth, she secured the SLAB/SLAI scholarship to pursue her Ph.D., which she successfully completed in 2012. Throughout her career, she has held key academic and research leadership roles, including Coordinator for Industrial Training, Research Laboratories, and international collaborations with institutions such as Keio University (Japan), Nagaoka University of Technology (Japan), and Manchester Metropolitan University (UK). As a principal investigator, Dr. Norrima has led several high-impact research projects, securing significant funding, including a RM 1 million grant from the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), along with Science Fund and CREST grants. Her extensive publications in top-tier international journals and conference proceedings highlight her contributions to advancing technology and innovation. Dr. Norrima’s expertise in AI-driven systems, automation, and human-machine interaction continues to push the boundaries of research, shaping the future of intelligent technologies and their applications in various industries. She has successfully supervised five Ph.D. students and five Master of Engineering Science students (by research). Additionally, she is an active reviewer for many reputable journals and international conferences. show more »Associate Profssor Ir. Dr. Mohd Sayuti Ab Karim is a distinguished Associate Professor at Universiti Malaya. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Computer Aided Design (CAD/CAM) Engineering from Universiti Malaya in 2006. Driven by a passion for advanced manufacturing, he pursued postgraduate studies in Engineering Science, focusing on Advanced Manufacturing Processes, and completed his PhD in 2013. Dr. Sayuti's research journey began in 2006 as a Research Assistant at the Advanced Manufacturing and Material Processing (AMMP) Centre. Over the years, he has led numerous projects related to design and manufacturing, significantly contributing to the field. His research has been widely recognized, with over 40 ISI-indexed papers and more than 10 patents showcasing his innovative work. In addition to his academic and research achievements, Dr. Sayuti excels in product design and development, employing a systematic approach to create innovative solutions. Among the products he has developed are the Automatic Thermocyclic Dipping Machine, CNC Lathe Machine, Automated Methadone Dispensing Machine, and an Alcohol Detection Device. He has also developed expertise in machine learning, having completed a specialized course in Python programming. Dr. Sayuti is proficient in various simulation activities, including Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) using ANSYS software. His technical expertise is highly valued, and he serves as a technical advisor for the Institute Latihan Perindustrian Ipoh and Vocational School Sungai Buloh. Furthermore, he has extensive experience in developing Occupational Frameworks for the Department of Skills and Development under the Ministry of Human Resources, particularly in the wood manufacturing industry. Beyond his academic and advisory roles, Dr. Sayuti is the General Manager at Zecttron Sdn Bhd, a spin-off company from Universiti Malaya. In this capacity, he oversees the company's strategic direction and operations, leveraging his extensive knowledge and experience to drive innovation and growth. Dr. Sayuti is a Chartered Engineer (UK) with the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) and has been a professional engineer registered with the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) since 2022. His professional affiliations and certifications underscore his commitment to maintaining high standards in engineering practice. show more »Dr. Farazila Binti Yusof, or Fara as she is affectionately known was born and raised in the scenic town of Muar, Johor, Dr. Farazila Binti Yusof has carved a distinguished path in the academic and engineering worlds. Known for her profound dedication and expertise, Fara’s journey from a curious village girl in Muar to an influential academic leader is a story of passion, dedication, and perseverance. Dr. Farazila embarked on her academic journey with a Bachelor’s Degree in CAD/M Engineering, followed by a Master of Engineering Science at Universiti Malaya, and culminating in a Doctor of Engineering at Japan. Each step in her educational path fortified her foundation and fueled her commitment to advancing the engineering field. Currently serving as the Executive Director at the Centre of Foundation Studies in Sciences, Universiti Malaya, Dr. Farazila has held several pivotal positions within the university. Prior to her current role, she was the Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department from 2021 to 2022 and the Deputy Dean of Postgraduate Studies at the Faculty of Engineering from 2019 to 2021. Her leadership roles are characterized by visionary guidance and a relentless pursuit of excellence in engineering education and research. Dr. Farazila is a renowned scholar in the fields of welding, joining, and additive manufacturing. Her academic contributions include supervising over 25 PhD candidates and 7 masters students, alongside publishing more than 120 refereed journal articles. Her work not only advances the state of engineering but also mentors the next generation of engineers and researchers. When she is not immersed in her academic and professional endeavors, Dr. Farazila enjoys traveling. Her travels are not just escapes but also another way for her to explore and understand the engineering marvels of the world, blending her personal interests seamlessly with her professional passions.
