Mary J Marret is a paediatrician with a special interest in community paediatrics. She has been practising as a paediatrician for about thirty years after undergraduate and postgraduate training at the National University of Singapore. She is a Professor at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur with a parallel clinical appointment as senior consultant paediatrician at the University of Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC). She has extensive experience in undergraduate and postgraduate training with active involvement in the development and implementation of the undergraduate and postgraduate paediatric curriculum at the Faculty of Medicine. Currently, she is the Paediatric Assessment Coordinator for undergraduate students in the University of Malaya Medical Programme (UMMP). As Faculty Advisor for clinical assessment, she helped to design the examination format for the UMMP Final Barrier Clinical Assessment, introduced innovations to run examinations through the Covid-19 pandemic, and continues to advise on further refinements post-pandemic. She is a Fellow of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, UK, and has been examiner for membership examinations conducted by the RCPCH for over a decade. In her roles as Chairman of the Child Protection Committee at the UM Medical Centre as well as Chair of the Child Protection Sub-committee of the Malaysian Paediatric Association, she has an interest in enhancing professional capacity and competence of professionals in the field of child protection within the institution as well as in the country. She provides consultation to a multidisciplinary team that performs assessments of children referred for suspected child maltreatment and conducts in-house training for doctors, nurses and social workers involved in this multi-disciplinary care. She has been invited by various organisations to provide education on child protection and to advise on laws, polices and service provision, including other local hospitals, educational institutions, government agencies, NGOs and various professional bodies. She is a member of the International Society for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect and was part of the scientific committee for the 10th ISPCAN Asia Pacific Conference on Child Abuse and Neglect held in Kuala Lumpur. She was a member of an international committee of experts under the auspices of the World Health Organisation which developed guidelines for the health sector response to child maltreatment. Together with a fellow paediatrician, she pioneered the establishment of a paediatric developmental clinic at UMMC in the late 1990s, collaborating with the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine to address unmet needs of children with disabilities and developmental problems. This paved the way for junior colleagues to pursue training in developmental paediatrics, with the subsequent establishment of a Child Development Centre at UMMC. Her research interests are in child victimization across a variety of settings with publications in scientific journals and book chapters and presentations at local and international conferences. She has also been a reviewer for medical journals. She has collaborated in population-based research regarding the epidemiology of child maltreatment in Malaysia as well as the exposure of Malaysian adolescents to risks and victimization through their engagement with online digital technology. Her recent publications on abusive head trauma have examined adverse outcomes of mortality, disability and developmental problems as well as financial implications such as the cost of inpatient care. On behalf of the Malaysian Paediatric Association, she has written articles providing advice on child health which have been published in a local parenting magazine as well the local media. She utilises creative writing and music as channels to reflect on insights derived from her interaction with children.

Dr. Jeevan began his academic journey by earning a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) in 1999. He then advanced to Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), where he completed an MSc in Mechanical Engineering in 2003 and a PhD in Heat Transfer in Electronic System in 2007. In 2014, he obtained a Professional Certificate in Electronic Engineering from the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM), further cementing his status as a registered professional engineer. Dr. Jeevan holds a chartered engineer registration via IET (UK) since 2012 . Within the Faculty of Engineering, he leads interdisciplinary research efforts in optimization, artificial intelligence, and control systems, with applications in healthcare, IR4, and electronic circuits. He heads the Expert System & Optimization Lab (ESOL), which focuses on integrating AI and swarm intelligence with control strategies to address societal challenges like cancer treatment optimization and Industrial Revolution 4. ESOL collaborates with dental faculties at UM and international institutions across the UK, Germany, and China. Dr. Jeevan’s research portfolio is both broad and impactful: he has authored over 100 peer‑reviewed journal articles, garnered more than 1,300 citations, and currently having an H‑index of 20(2025). Noteworthy recent publications include studies on cancer chemotherapy controlled via optimal control and swarm intelligence; exploration of distortion estimation using image gradients; investigations into vehicle type classification using semi‑supervised PCA and convolutional networks; and research with Malaysian Industry related to Industry Revolution 4.0. In 2024 alone, he co-authored works on dual‑therapy cancer control and metaheuristic optimization for treatment planning, demonstrating his ongoing leadership in high‑impact interdisciplinary research. Beyond research, Dr. Jeevan is active in grant panel review, academic examination, and journal referee service. He has served as a panel assessor for UM internal grant schemes (2019–21) and reviewed proposals for Universiti Pertahanan Malaysia, Taylor’s University, and the international journal Applied Soft Computing and IEEE access. In recognition of his dedication to service, he received the Certificate of Excellent Service from Universiti Malaya in 2014 . In the classroom, he teaches the Optimization Methods (KIE4024) and Numerical Analysis(KIE3005) for undergraduates and lectures on Machine Learning(KQC7015), Industrial Automation and Robotics(KQC7031) and Embedded System(KQC7029) for Masters of Coursework, equipping engineering students with AI‑based approaches to address complex, real‑world engineering problems through optimal control and swarm intelligence.

Mohd Anuar Ramli. He was born and raised in Kampong Air Putih, Junjong, Kulim, Kedah, Malaysia on 26th November 1976. The ninth children of almarhum Haji Ramli Ismail and almarhumah Hajah Sofiah Ariffin. Mohd Anuar received early education in Sekolah Kebangsaan Junjong (1982-1988), then continued secondary education in Sekolah Menengah Agama Tarbiyah Diniah, Kulim, Kedah (1989-1994), pre-university in Nilam Puri (1995-1997), subsequently earned his bachelor’s degree in Syariah (Fiqh & Usul) (1997-2000), master’s degree (2001-2004) and doctorate degree (2005-2010) in Universiti Malaya. He has been serving in Jabatan Fiqh & Usul (Department of Fiqh and Usul), Akademi Pengajian Islam (Academy of Islamic Studies) Universiti Malaya as a temporary lecturer since 2004 and now as a senior lecturer after finishing his doctorate study under Skim Latihan Akademik IPTA (SLAI) in 2010. Mohd Anuar’s areas of expertise are Fiqh of Culture, Fiqh of Gender, Fiqh of Consumerism and other related fields in Islamic studies. He has been teaching Introduction to Shariah, Fiqh of Culture, Fiqh of Consumerism, Fiqh of Worship (Ibadah), Maktabah Shariah and Research Methodology. He produced almost 40 postgraduate master’s and doctorate students and received numerous research grants from both internal university and external fund. Mohd Anuar has published almost 200 articles, chapters in books and conference papers in various categories either in the international or local level. The published writings cover diverse areas, such as custom and culture, gender, halal and consumerism, religious extremism and terrorism, contemporary fiqh and Malaysian society. He is always enthusiastic to serve as a versatile scholar that masters numerous fields and learns to explore new research area in Islamic studies framework. Mohd Anuar loves travelling to appreciate the beauty of panoramic nature and cultures of society as well as to enhance life experience and perseverance.
