PROF. DR. HESHAM MAHYOUB SARHAN AL-MEKHLAFI

Hesham Al-Mekhlafi has a PhD in public health (2008), master’s degrees in medical science (parasitology) (2004) and in applied statistics (2012) as well as a bachelor’s degree in medical laboratories (1997). Since early 2000s, he has been actively engaged in research on the molecular epidemiology and prevention of infectious diseases including malaria, neglected tropical diseases, NTDs (such as soil-transmitted helminthiasis, schistosomiasis, leishmaniasis and dengue fever), and waterborne parasites. He joined the department of parasitology, University of Malaya (a regional leading dept. in parasitology research) for seven years (2009–2016) as a senior lecturer and promoted to associate professor. In 2016, he joined Jazan University, Saudi Arabia and promoted to full professor in 2022. He re-joined Universiti Malaya in 2023. He has taught several courses in parasitology, epidemiology, biostatistics, and research methodology at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He has established passionate research teams that involved diligent postgraduate students, enthusiastic colleagues, and inspiring national and international collaborators. The research dedicated to helping vulnerable rural and aboriginal communities in Malaysia and other countries including Yemen, Nigeria and Libya against the NTDs, malaria and other infectious diseases. He has published more than 150 articles in high-impact ISI & Scopus indexed journals; with h-index of 41 (WoS). Hesham has been a member of several academic, scientific and administrative councils and committees. He also enjoys reviewing scientific manuscripts, research proposals, plans and strategies, theses and reports, etc. He is a member of the editorial boards of several renowned journals, and a regular reviewer for many peer-reviewed journals as well as a panel member of assessors for various national and international research grant schemes and postgraduate programs.

DR. SITI AISYAH BINTI SAMUDIN

Siti Aisyah Samudin is currently a Senior Lecturer at the Syariah and Law Department, Academy of Islamic Studies, University of Malaya, Malaysia. She graduated with a Diploma in Syariah and Islamic Jurisprudence with honors class one from the International Islamic University College of Selangor in 2011. In 2015, she was awarded a Bachelor Degree in Syariah and Law with honors class one from the Academy of Islamic Studies, University of Malaya. She completed her doctoral studies in 2019 at the same university in which she specialized in Islamic tort and Islamic criminal justice. Her areas of expertise and research interests are Islamic criminal law, negligence, tort and consumerism. Her current research is on the need for an approach of harmonisation between diyya and existing compensation method including Malaysian law and insurance, to provide comprehensive protection to victims of road accidents. She is currently active in research and writing articles, especially on compensation for road traffic accident victims in Malaysia, the role of Insurance and Takaful as well as the potential of diyat in the area of damages. She was the recipients for Gold Medal Poster Exhibition Research University Malaya 2019. She is currently supervising 1 masters students and upcoming 5 PhD students. Outside the University, she is an exco member of al-Mukhlisin Foundation (an NGO).

PROF. DR. VANNAJAN SANGHIRAN LEE

Prof. Dr. Vannajan Sanghiran Lee is a renowned researcher specializing in molecular modeling and simulations, dedicated to advancing sustainable development goals (SDGs). With a BSc in Chemistry from Chiang Mai University, Thailand (1994), and a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences and Physical Chemistry from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, USA (2001) supported by a prestigious scholarship from the Institute of Promotion and Development Science and Technology Project in Thailand, she has established herself as a prominent figure in her field. Dr. Lee's exceptional contributions were recently recognized with the 2023 UNESCO Woman of Influence for Science and Technology award at the 1st International Congress for the Women of Influence (ICFWI) in Tehran, Iran. Her expertise lies in molecular modeling and simulations, including Molecular Dynamics (MD), Monte Carlo Simulations (MC), and Quantum Mechanics (QM). She applies these techniques to biomolecular and material design, driving significant contributions to sustainable development. Currently serving as a respected lecturer at the Department of Chemistry, University of Malaya, and holding the position of Deputy Head of the UM Centre of Excellence for Quantum Information Science and Technology (UMQIST) and an advisor of American Chemical Society (ACS) University of Malaya International Student Chapter, Dr. Lee's dedication and expertise in molecular modeling and simulations contribute to global SDG efforts. She also empowers the next generation of scientists through MolDesign, a student-founded enterprise she pioneered as a dynamic partnership platform for molecular creators and innovators, igniting new paths in scientific exploration. Dr. Lee's commitment to advancing scientific knowledge, nurturing innovation, and empowering molecular creators exemplifies her dedication to driving transformative change across diverse industries, including pharmaceutical healthcare innovation and green technologies.
