Dr. Tang Tuck Cheong joined the Department of Economics and Applied Statistics at the Faculty of Business and Economics, Universiti Malaya, on February 17, 2014. Previously, he served at Monash University Malaysia, starting as a tutor in the School of Business in July 2001 and ultimately holding the position of senior lecturer until February 14, 2014. Over the years, Dr. Tang has taught a range of undergraduate courses in economics. In 2012, he completed his PhD in Economics at Monash University, Australia, under the supervision of Dietrich Karl Fausten, and was awarded the prestigious Mollie Holman Doctoral Medal. His research expertise lies in open economy macroeconomics, including international trade topics such as import demand functions and balance of payments sustainability. He has published extensively in refereed journals and presented his research at numerous international conferences. Dr. Tang actively contributes to the academic community through his roles on the editorial advisory boards of the Labuan Bulletin of International Business and Finance and the International Journal of Management Studies, as well as serving as an associate editor for the Journal of Economic Development. Additionally, he is regularly invited to review articles for internationally recognized journals. Outside academia, Dr. Tang is a dedicated martial artist, practicing Wing Chun. He is also a former collector of collectible toys, including Transformers, action figures, and designer toys.
show more »Teh Bor Tsong is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Urban and Regional Planning, Faculty of Built Environment, Universiti Malaya. He obtained his Ph.D. in Regional Environment Systems from the Shibaura Institute of Technology, Japan. He has more than 10 years of experience in the research relating to the evidence-based urban planning to support the green growth and climate change agenda of Malaysian cities. He specialised in the sustainable urban and regional planning, environmental studies and transportation planning.
show more »Born in Melaka in 1977, Zailan bin Siri received his BSc (Hons) in Computational and Industrial Mathematics from Universiti Malaya in 2001, followed by an MSc in Applied Mathematics from Universiti Putra Malaysia in 2004 and a PhD in Applied Mathematics from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia in 2012. He began his academic journey at Universiti Malaya in 2002 as a Tutor, became a Lecturer in 2004, was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2012, and rose to Associate Professor in 2018. Since October 2020, he has held several strategic leadership roles, including Head of the Institute of Mathematical Sciences (2020–2022), Quality Manager for the Faculty of Science from January 2024, and Deputy Dean (Undergraduate) starting September 2024. In the classroom, he delivers a wide spectrum of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Applied Mathematics, focusing on problem-solving, computational methods, and mathematical modeling. He has effectively supervised numerous MSc and PhD candidates, with 13 doctoral and 8 master's theses completed under his guidance. His research expertise lies in Computational Fluid Dynamics, Numerical Methods and Analysis, Boundary Layer Problems, and Mathematical Modelling. To date, he has authored over 90 peer-reviewed journal articles and is leading multiple research grants as Principal Investigator. He is also extremely active in academic development and mentorship, contributing to curriculum design and quality assurance at UM and participating in national efforts to strengthen secondary school mathematics and addittional mathematics under the Ministry of Education, Malaysia. Committed to enhancing the standard of mathematical sciences in Malaysia, he continues to foster a collaborative and dynamic environment within the Faculty of Science, making significant contributions to education, research, and institutional leadership.
