Dr Yong Sook Lu working in Department of Economics and Applied Statistics at University of Malaya, MALAYSIA. She holds PhD (Economics, Lancaster University, United Kingdom), MEcon (Economics, UM, Malaysia) and BEcon (Analytical Economics, UM, Malaysia). Her research expertise includes Industrial Organisation, Microeconomics, Monetary Economics and Public Health. She has taught several courses at Undergraduate level including: Microeconomics, Malaysian Economy, Introduction to Mathematical Economics, Industrial Economics, Macroeconomics and Health Economics (at University of Malaya); Principles of Economics, Microeconomics and Econometrics (at HELP University). She supervised over 50 UG projects including industrial placement projects (at University of Malaya); over 30 Masters Research Projects (at University of Malaya); and 4 PhD (under supervision). Produced over 15 publications, including book chapters, articles in internationally refereed journals, policy briefs and reports. She has also reviewed several papers for journals and conferences. She has led research projects on: " A Regional Study on Social Protection coverage: ASEAN Countries " (SWRC Grant), "The Impact of Uncertainty on Economic Growth: The Case of ASEAN-5 " (University Grant), “Industrial Organisation and Classification of Firms Listed in Bursa Malaysia” (University Grant) and “Exploring CPI Basket for Identifying Minimum Essentials in Reference Budgets” (SWRC Grant). She is also a co-researcher for projects such as " Rural Women Empowerment through Entrepreneurship " (FRGS); “Malaysia Ageing and Retirement Survey” and “Belanjawanku" (SWRC Grant) and " Malaysia: Labelling Regulations on Natural Rubber Condoms and the WTO TBT Agreement " (Australian Government Aids). She is an Editor for Malaysian Journal of Economic Studies. show more »Dr. Atifah binti Ahmad Yusoff, who holds a Ph.D. in Social Sciences from Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS, an M.A. in Islamic Thought from Universiti Malaya, and a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) in Process Plant Engineering from Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS, is currently a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Aqidah and Islamic Thought, Academy of Islamic Studies, Universiti Malaya. Dr. Atifah’s academic and research expertise spans Comparative Religion, Islamic Thought, and Contemporary Ideologies, with a strong specialisation in socio-religious harmony. She has led and contributed to multiple funded research projects, including as Principal Investigator for the Pembangunan Model Pedagogi Interaksi Antara Penganut Agama Dalam Pendidikan Islam Sekolah Menengah di Sabah (2024–2027, UM Research Excellence Grant) and as Co-Researcher for the Implementasi Konsep Tasamuh Dalam Pendidikan Madani Ke Arah Perpaduan dan Keharmonian Masyarakat Madani Multi-Etnik di Malaysia (2024–2026, UM Global Transformation Research Grant). She was also part of the research team for the Kajian Persepsi, Faktor dan Implikasi Islamofobia Dalam Kalangan Masyarakat Malaysia (2025) and the Piagam Harmoni Malaysia project with Institut Kefahaman Islam Malaysia (2023–2024). Her scholarly contributions include publications on the Socio-Religious Harmony Index (SRHI), which were presented at international conferences and published in reputable journals such as the Pertanika Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities. She has also written extensively in mass media on issues of religious harmony, moderation, and moral development, with articles appearing in platforms such as Berita Harian, Bebas News, Sumber Kini, and UMResearchPlus. In the professional sphere, Dr. Atifah is actively engaged with institutions and dialogue initiatives that promote interfaith understanding. In 2025, she was appointed Associate Member of the Universiti Malaya Centre for Civilisational Dialogue (UMCCD) and has participated as a resource person in national focus group discussions and harmony outreach programs. She has also served as a moderator in both international and university-level conferences. Dr. Atifah has supervised postgraduate and undergraduate research in areas closely tied to socio-religious harmony, including sectarian violence, interfaith pedagogy, and moral awareness. Her academic service includes reviewing journal articles, evaluating Ph.D. theses, and advising on national-level publications. Her work reflects a deep commitment to fostering peaceful coexistence in Malaysia’s multi-religious society, bridging scholarly research with practical engagement to address contemporary challenges in interfaith relations and Islamic thought.
show more »Dr. Victor Hoe is a distinguished academic and Public Health Medicina Specialist with a focus on occupational and public health at the Universiti Malaya. As of 2025, he holds several key positions, including Professor and Head of the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine and Editor-in-Chief, Medical Journal of Malaysia. He was also a Senate Member for the University of Malaya (2021-2024) and Head of the Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental Unit at Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (2018-2022). Dr. Hoe's academic journey includes a PhD in Occupational Health and Safety from Monash University, Australia, and multiple master's degrees in public health and occupational safety, including Master of Engineering (Safety, Health and Environment) from UM and Master of Occupational Health from University of Turin. He is a Fellow of both the Academy of Medicine Malaysia (AMM) and the Academy of Occupational and Environmental Medicine Malaysia (AOEMM). Throughout his career, Professor Hoe has made significant contributions to the field of occupational and public health. He has been actively involved in various professional organisations, serving on national and international public health bodies. His research interests encompass worksite wellness, musculoskeletal disorders, ergonomics, and health risk assessment. Professor Hoe has been recognised with numerous awards, including the International Commission on Occupational Health's ILO Master Fellowship, and the Malaysian Medical Association’s Meritorious Award and Asia-Pacific Academic Consortium of Public Health’s Medal of Merit Award in 2023. He has been at the forefront of integrating technology into medical education and practice, and has played a crucial role in public health communication, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. As of 2025, Professor Hoe continues to lead important research projects, supervise doctoral and master's students, and contribute to national and international public health initiatives. His work remains crucial in advancing occupational and public health practices, policies, and education in Malaysia and the broader Asia-Pacific region.
