Syafiq Faliq Alfan, also known as SEFA, is a theatre and performance studies scholar, performing artist, educator, and cultural researcher specialising in cultural change and memory in Asian traditional performing arts. He is particularly interested in how traditional forms transform across time, media, and space, and how these shifts relate to cultural memory, philosophy of history, and lived experience. He earned his Doctoral Degree from the Faculty of Integrated Arts and Science at Hiroshima University, Japan, in 2022, through research on the methodological construction of analysis towards the traditional dances of Mak Yong and Noh using motion capture technology. As an outsider-artist, SEFA has been a member of the Ipoh artist-collective Projek Rabak since 2011, where he currently serves as director. Since 2007, he has actively participated in numerous local and international performances, focusing on the intersection between Corporeal Mime by Étienne Decroux and the improvisational techniques of Malay traditional performing arts. His performance research centres on the body as subject and its entanglement with elements within its environment, including space, audience, and technology, often drawing on Practice-as-Research as a core method. SEFA is also a creative writer, with works such as Melankolia Bisu (2014) and Novel Eksperimental (2013), among others. Currently, his research interests revolve around memory studies and the philosophy of history to understand Mak Yong history and its multiple trajectories across regions and narratives. He believes that enriching the discourse on Malaysian traditional performing arts, through both theory and practice, will deepen our understanding of their role in shaping local identities and collective memory. He is also interested in engaging Digital Humanities at the intersection of aesthetics, ecology, local wisdom, identity formation, and arts biomechanics. Through media and technology, particularly motion capture, he explores how different experiences and cultures can be understood in greater nuance, especially in relation to various modes of cultural change in performing arts. His work sits at the crossroads of performance theory, cultural and memory studies, media studies, and philosophical inquiry. As a scholar of performance and theatre studies, he believes the role of the performing arts extends beyond the discourse of performance and performativity, and should also engage critically with issues of sustainability, environmental impact, socio-economics, education, architecture, and technology. Potential postgraduate students should be prepared for an integrated and interdisciplinary approach, and be willing to develop practical and high-impact research that benefits society while remaining sensitive to culture, history, and the evolving realities of performance.

Sr Dr. Loo Siaw Chuing (Angeline) obtained her Bachelor of Quantity Surveying (Hons) (Distinction, 2008), Master of Science (Building) (Distinction, 2011), and her PhD (Project & Construction Management, 2015) from Universiti Malaya. She has been a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Quantity Surveying since 2016, a registered professional quantity surveyor with BQSM, and a member of RISM since 2020. She was the coordinator for Master of Project Management for 4 years and is currently the coordinator for open and distance learning for the Faculty of Built Environment and the coordinator for Bachelor of Quantity Surveying. Dr. Loo teaches undergraduate courses: Principles of Management, Data Analysis, Measurement, Research Methodology, Building Structure, and Research Project and supervises both undergraduate and postgraduate students. Her research interests are project management, risk management, and international construction focusing on project performance and delivery. She also secured 16 internal and external grants with her collaborators. She has published more than 40 international refereed journal papers, 2 books, and 10 conference papers. She is on the editorial board of the Journal of Surveying, Construction and Property. She is currently an external examiner for SEGi University and also one of the Sarawak Course Advisory Committee Members for Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus. She has garnered a few research and service awards. She won two best paper awards (conferences held in Italy and Indonesia), a gold award and novice special award (won with her final year supervisee), a gold award (teaching enhancement research with her colleagues), and other awards. She also received the Certificate of Excellent Service (SPC) in 2020 and the Award of Excellent Service (APC) in 2021 and 2024. She has been actively serving RISM: organizing committee for RISM research conferences for three consecutive years and secretary for the PAQS Congress 2023. She is also the current committee member for the QS Division 2024/2025 and 2026/2026 at the RISM and one of the subcommittee member at the BQSM. She is an active QS consultant at the University’s consultancy unit known as Unit Perundingan Universiti Malaya (UPUM), where she is involved in both private and public projects.

Dr Veenesh Selvaratnam is a Consultant Orthopaedic, Robotic and Hip & Knee Surgeon at University Malaya Specialist Centre and University Malaya Medical Centre in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. His private practice is in University Malaya Specialist Centre. He is also a senior lecturer in University Malaya. He completed all his Orthopaedic training in the UK. He is a UK Fellowship trained robotic hip and knee surgeon. He was appointed a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in Manchester University Hospital, UK in 2020. He spent 18 years in the UK prior to returning to serve in Malaysia via TalentCorp Returning Expert Programme. He served in the Ministry of Health (KKM) Malaysia and is a KKM recognised sub specialist Arthroplasty (Hip & Knee Joint Replacement) surgeon.
