Dr. Hidayah obtained her first degree in Bachelor of Science with Islamic Studies specialized in Ecology and Biodiversity from Universiti Malaya in 2009, under Public Service Department Malaysia scholarship. She then continued her interest in Science Biology at the same university under the National Science Fellowship (NSF), Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation scholarship where she obtained a Master of Science in Molecular Taxonomy in 2013. Afterward, she worked as a Research Assistant to expand her experience in the research world before she continued her PhD. In the year 2015, she received a scholarship from the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia to pursue her PhD focusing on Bio-ecological and taxonomic studies of Malaysian dragonflies at Universiti Malaya. While completing her PhD, she becomes a recipient of short-term International Program Associates (IPAs) under the International Joint Graduate School Program RIKEN, by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), Wako-Shi, Japan in 2016. RIKEN is Japan's largest comprehensive research institution renowned for high-quality research in a diverse range of scientific disciplines. While carrying out her PhD project at RIKEN, she was engaged in the Enzyme Research Team, Biomass Engineering Research Division, RIKEN Center for Sustainable Resource Science. The research she has conducted at RIKEN to date aims to demonstrate the micro joint wing properties in the suborder Zygoptera using combined techniques of laser scanning confocal microscopy (LSCM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM) to explore resilin elasticity investigations and analyze of protein components. In 2018, she completed her PhD and started her career as a part-timer lecturer, and afterward, she has been appointed as Senior Lecturer in 2020 under Ecology Biodiversity Programme, Institute of Biological Sciences, Faculty of Science, Universiti Malaya. She currently teaches Animal Behaviour & Ethology and Animal Structure, Function & Physiology subjects to undergraduate students. She has vast experience in teaching and learning starting as a demonstrator back in 2013 and involved in immense research field preliminary back to 2010 and became a reviewer in several peer-reviewed and high impact journals such as PLoS ONE.
show more »Dr. Azni Zarina Taha (PhD, Aston University) serves as the Executive Director of UMGiving at Universiti Malaya, where she combines her academic foundation in organization and strategy with her extensive consultancy experience. Prior to this post, she was the Executive Director for Universiti Malaya Center for Continuing Education (UMCCed) and Deputy Director for UMConsult. Holding a PhD in strategy and organizational change, an MBA from Universiti Malaya, and a BSc from the University of Missouri, Dr. Azni is well-regarded for her contributions to management education and strategic development. In her academic role, Dr. Azni teaches corporate strategy and most management-related subjects, integrating academic theory with insights from her consultancy projects. Some of the management-related subjects include, change management in disruptive times, sustainable service innovations, performance management, international business, and training management. She has successfully completed supervising four (4) PhD students. She has published in several refereed and index journals, including Operations Management Research and Tourism Management. She has delivered tailored training programs for organizations such as Panasonic Malaysia, the Malaysia Armed Forces, and Infineon Technologies, empowering these teams with advanced strategic skills. As a consultant, Dr. Azni has advised high-profile organizations across sectors. Her consultancy work with the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development, the Ministry of Economy, the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN), and the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) highlights her commitment to supporting Malaysia’s economic and industrial advancements. show more »Mary J Marret is a paediatrician with a special interest in community paediatrics. She has been practising as a paediatrician for about thirty years after undergraduate and postgraduate training at the National University of Singapore. She is a Professor at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur with a parallel clinical appointment as senior consultant paediatrician at the University of Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC). She has extensive experience in undergraduate and postgraduate training with active involvement in the development and implementation of the undergraduate and postgraduate paediatric curriculum at the Faculty of Medicine. Currently, she is the Paediatric Assessment Coordinator for undergraduate students in the University of Malaya Medical Programme (UMMP). As Faculty Advisor for clinical assessment, she helped to design the examination format for the UMMP Final Barrier Clinical Assessment, introduced innovations to run examinations through the Covid-19 pandemic, and continues to advise on further refinements post-pandemic. She is a Fellow of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, UK, and has been examiner for membership examinations conducted by the RCPCH for over a decade. In her roles as Chairman of the Child Protection Committee at the UM Medical Centre as well as Chair of the Child Protection Sub-committee of the Malaysian Paediatric Association, she has an interest in enhancing professional capacity and competence of professionals in the field of child protection within the institution as well as in the country. She provides consultation to a multidisciplinary team that performs assessments of children referred for suspected child maltreatment and conducts in-house training for doctors, nurses and social workers involved in this multi-disciplinary care. She has been invited by various organisations to provide education on child protection and to advise on laws, polices and service provision, including other local hospitals, educational institutions, government agencies, NGOs and various professional bodies. She is a member of the International Society for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect and was part of the scientific committee for the 10th ISPCAN Asia Pacific Conference on Child Abuse and Neglect held in Kuala Lumpur. She was a member of an international committee of experts under the auspices of the World Health Organisation which developed guidelines for the health sector response to child maltreatment. Together with a fellow paediatrician, she pioneered the establishment of a paediatric developmental clinic at UMMC in the late 1990s, collaborating with the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine to address unmet needs of children with disabilities and developmental problems. This paved the way for junior colleagues to pursue training in developmental paediatrics, with the subsequent establishment of a Child Development Centre at UMMC. Her research interests are in child victimization across a variety of settings with publications in scientific journals and book chapters and presentations at local and international conferences. She has also been a reviewer for medical journals. She has collaborated in population-based research regarding the epidemiology of child maltreatment in Malaysia as well as the exposure of Malaysian adolescents to risks and victimization through their engagement with online digital technology. Her recent publications on abusive head trauma have examined adverse outcomes of mortality, disability and developmental problems as well as financial implications such as the cost of inpatient care. On behalf of the Malaysian Paediatric Association, she has written articles providing advice on child health which have been published in a local parenting magazine as well the local media. She utilises creative writing and music as channels to reflect on insights derived from her interaction with children.
