ASSOCIATE PROF. DR. ANAND A/L SANMUGAM

Associate Professor Dr. Anand Sanmugam is a Consultant Paediatric & Neonatal Surgeon at Universiti Malaya and a dedicated leader in medical education and paediatric surgery. His journey in medicine began at Universiti Putra Malaysia, where he earned his Bachelor of Medical Sciences and Doctor in Medicine degrees in 2004. He became a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons (Ireland) in 2011. Anand trained in paediatric surgery under the Master of Paediatric Surgery programme at Universiti Malaya and further honed his expertise through a Clinical Fellowship in Paediatric Surgery at Perth Children’s Hospital in Western Australia. He has a special interest in Minimally Invasive Surgery for children. He holds a second Master's degree in Medical Education, which he earned with distinction. He is the Programme (co-)Director of the Master of Paediatric Surgery Programme at Universiti Malaya and one of the core authors of the National Postgraduate Medical Curriculum for Paediatric Surgery. In his current leadership roles, Anand serves as a Malaysian Medical Council Appointed Specialist Programme Evaluation Panel Member, the Co-Chair of the National Postgraduate Medical Curriculum Committee for Evaluation and Quality Assurance, and the Chair of the Specialty Subcommittee for Education (SSc Edu - Paediatric Surgery).  Anand is a member of the Paediatric Surgery Specialty Conjoined Board, which oversees all aspects of paediatric surgical training in the country. Additionally, he is part of the faculty development team within the Medical Education and Research Development Unit (MERDU). He actively participates in the University Malaya Medical Programme, contributing to the Multiple Mini Interview (MBBS intake) taskforce and the Program Quality Assurance (ProAE) team for postgraduate studies within the Faculty of Medicine. Anand's research interests are diverse, spanning surgical conditions in children, patient reported outcomes, medical education, and translational research in tissue engineering.  Through his clinical, academic, and leadership roles, Dr. Anand aspires to advance healthcare and medical education, ensuring a lasting impact on his field and beyond.

PROF. DR. OOI CHONG HENG

Prof. Dr. Raymond Ooi is an elected Fellow of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia since 2015. He won the Malaysian Toray Science Foundation (MTSF) Science & Technology Award in 2013. He obtained his PhD (dr.rer.nat) from Universitaet Konstanz, Germany in quantum optics and laser cooling of molecules. He then worked as a post-doctoral Research Associate for three years with Marlan O. Scully (a distinguish physicist in quantum coherence). During this time, he was also a Visiting Scientist at Princeton University and Max-Planck Institut fuer Quantenoptik. Then, he joined KAIST as a Research Professor,  Korea University as Assistant Professor and Monash University (Sunway) as Senior Lecturer, before joining Universiti Malaya in 2010. His research has produced a total of more than 160 publications (mainly WoS journal & including conference papers) covering quantum optics, nonlinear molecular spectroscopy and quantum microscopy, statistical physics of Bose-Einstein condensates, interactions, generation and propagation of ultrashort and intense laser pulses. In 2011 he initiated the "Quantum and Laser Science" research center and single-handedly developed the Ultrafast High Intensity Femtosecond Laser and Optics facility in High Impact Research (HIR) building through the MoHE grant. In 2018, he initiated and chaired the first international conference on Quantum and Nonlinear Optics(QNO2018).  Recently he is leading quantum communications research program for the country.

ASSOCIATE PROF. DR. ROSMAWANI BINTI CHE HASHIM

BIODATA   Rosmawani Che Hashim is an associate professor at the Department of Management and Marketing, Universiti Malaya (UM). Her areas of expertise are commercial law and banking law. She holds a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) degree in 1992 and a Bachelor of Shariah Law (Hons) degree in 1993 from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). Following her bachelor’s degree, she obtained her master’s in international commercial law from the University of Nottingham, the UK, in 1995. She holds her Ph.D. in Islamic Banking and Finance Law at the International Islamic Banking and Finance Institute (IIiBF) at IIUM. She began her career as a lecturer at Universiti Utara Malaysia in 1995 before transferring to UM in 2005. Currently, she is teaching Commercial Law and Legal Aspects of Banking Law at the Faculty of Business and Economics (FBE). Apart from her considerable teaching experience and administration posts, she is active in literary pursuits. She published articles in her related field in various social sciences journals, books, and proceedings of international conferences. She has several years of experience in consulting projects with agencies such as Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), the Asian Institute of Finance (AIF), and the British High Commission, United Kingdom. Her research area covers legal issues in commercial and banking laws, wellbeing at the workplace, domestic violence, and elderly and informal caretakers' wellbeing. Her current interest is in qualitative research.
