Dr. Fakhrur Razi Maamor holds a Bachelor of Fine Art (Honours) at Faculty of Art and Design, Universiti Teknologi MARA, Shah Alam. He furthered his studies at the same university, obtaining a Master's degree in Arts and Design through a research mode. During this stage, he conducted research titled "Buah Buton at Luak Tanah Mengandung, Negeri Sembilan: The Interrelation of Cultural Context with the Adat Perpatih Community." His research focused on the aesthetic visual culture that aligns with the discipline of art. To ensure harmony within the context of Malay visual arts, he continued his research, incorporating philosophical aspects, and advanced to the Doctor of Philosophy level in the field of art at the Academy of Malay Studies, Universiti Malaya, Kuala Lumpur. He successfully completed his thesis titled "Buah Buton di Luak Tanah Mengandung, Negeri Sembilan: Hubung Kait Kosmologi dengan Kehidupan Masyarakat Adat Perpatih", achieving the status of Graduate on Time (G.O.T.). Currently, his involvement in fine arts and visual culture extends to various activities and research both domestically and internationally. Numerous writings focusing on visual arts have been published, reflecting contemporary relevance while remaining rooted in the foundational content of artistic creation. show more »Yasmin completed her BSc at University of Surrey and MSc at University of Malaya then received a Chevening scholarship to pursue a Ph.D. in Plant Virology at the John Innes Institute U.K. She joined UM as a lecturer in the Department of Genetics and Cellular Biology and was appointed a full Professor in 2005, an elected member of UM senate since 2017 and the senate representative to the board of UM from 2019 to 2021. She retired offcially from UM in May 2021 and currently continues to serve UM as an honarary Professor at the Institute of Advanced Studies UM. She is also an adjunct professor at IUMW and an honarary fellow of the Tun Ghazali Shafie Institue for Strategic leadership at UCYP. She is fellow and currently on the council of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia She contiinues to be part of a dynamic research group and still publishes actively, focusing on utilising modern biotechnology strategies to tackle fundamental problems in agriculture as well on issues related to BioPolicies, Bioethics and Biosafety. Recently she was involved in ASMs Science Outlook 2020 review and the National Biotechnology Policy II. She has filed more than 10 patents and graduated more than 20 PhD and 25 MSc students. She is a Fellow of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia and listed as in the Top Research Scientist Malaysia database. She was a founding trustee of the National Institutes of Biotechnology Malaysia, a founding member of the Asian Network for Biosafety Education and was a two term expert member on the National Biosafety Board. Yasmin was the first head of the Centre for Research in Biotechnology for Agriculture and chair of the University’s Biotechnology and Bioproduct Cluster (UMBIO). She was also chief editor of the Asia-Pacific Journal for Molecular Biology and Biotechnology. in 2009 she left UM for a 3 year secondment to the Ministry of Science Technology and Innovation Malaysia as Undersecretary of the National Biotechnology Division . During her tenure Malaysia launched the Bioeconomy Initiative Malaysia designed to spur growth of the biotechnology industry. Whilst there, she spearheaded the committee which led to the formation of the National Bioethics Council. She has sat on the Board of Directors of MARDI, the Board of Governors of ICGEB, Trieste and was the National Point of Contact (NPC) for UNESCO’s Microbial Biotechnology Network and SEA-EU-NET (Biotech). Prior to retirement she was Associate vice chancellor (Industry & Community) & prior to this the Director of the University of Malaya Centre for Innovation & Commercilisation. In these roles she focused on building the university's entreprenureal ecosystem andd fostering engagement and collaboration with industry and the community. She is also founding vice president of the Innovation and Technology Managers Association Malaysia. She has sat on the Board of MaGIC (mymagic.my) and more recently on the boards of UMInnovations SB, UMPlantations SB & UMCapital Berhad. She is now chair of the Boards of Mranti corporation and Xeraya Capital. show more »Raihana Abdul Wahab's main research interest is on the Islamic Astronomy, particularly in Observational Astronomy.. She graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Shariah major in Islamic Astronomy from the University of Malaya and holds a Ph.D. in Islamic Astronomy from University Malaya in 2014. Since 2015, she appointed as a Senior Lecturer for Islamic Astronomy Programme under the Department of Fiqh and Usul, Academy of Islamic Studies, University of Malaya. She has a particular interest in the Quranic and Hadith Research related to Astronomy. She has been invited to deliver talks about several topics in Islamic Astronomy Research in Malaysia. Her completed research project is a Sky Brightness Research for Determination of Early Fajr Prayer Times funded by University of Malaya. Furthermore, she was the Principle Investigator of the fatwa research grant that was awarded by JAKIM for the Reevaluation of the Sun’s Altitude for Determination Beginning of Fajr Prayer Times in Malaysia. The findings of this research was presented to Fatwa Research and Management Committee, JAKIM and National Council for Islamic Religious Affairs of Malaysia (MKI). At the end of November 2019, several states announce earlier compared to other states on changes of beginning for Fajr prayer time to average 8 minutes later than the existing prayer time calendar. On April 21, 2020, the State of Kelantan announced the changes of the early Fajr prayer time. Therefore, all states in Malaysia have adopted the parameters of this research. She has also awarded a community research grant entitled Bringing Astronomy Community to Educate People under the University of Malaya Community Engagement Center (UMCares) research fund from 2018-2020. Her current research is Application of The Digital Imaging Techniques in the Observation of the Young Crescent Moon from the Perspective of Shariah and Astronomy. She has written more than 10 articles in international and local journals. Due to her extensive experience in the research work that has been carried out, she has been appointed by the Perak State Mufti Department as one of the members of the Falak committee for the State of Perak from 2018 until present. She also has been appointed as Islamic Astronomy Expert Panel for Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) from 2024-2025.
