Prof Dr. Ramesh T Subramaniam is a material scientist well known for his outstanding scholastic contribution on solutions for energy storage and harvesting devices for green energy and sustainable smart cities of tomorrow. The novelty of his research is the successful invention of highly adhesive polymer membranes, self-healable hydrogel electrolytes and electrodes using natural resources, environmentally friendly polymer electrolytes and techniques in the fabrication of green energy devices. Prof Dr. S. Ramesh is well recognized in his field, internationally and locally, evidenced by the many international and national awards he has received. The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) elected him as a TWAS Fellow in 2023. He is the First Malaysian to be elected as TWAS Fellow under the scientific field of Physics, Astronomy & Space Sciences. Subsequently, he was elected as Fellow of International Science Council (ISC) which recognizes individuals for their outstanding contributions to the promotion of science as a global public good. He has also received Pacifichem Young Scholar Award from the American Chemical Society, Young Scientist Award from IUPAC, IAP Young Scientist Award, TWAS Young Affiliate Fellow and ASEAN - China Scholar Award. He is an alumnus of the Global Young Academy (GYA) and Fellow of Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC). He was also conferred the Established Scientist Award by the Royal Society. In 2014 he was selected as the Top Research Scientists Malaysia (TRSM) and in the same year he received the “International Association of Advanced Materials Scientist Medal”. He is also a Fellow of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM), recipient of the Fulbright Fellowship with a tenure at Princeton University, USA, recipient of the Durham University “International Senior Research Fellowship” as Visiting Senior Fellow and a Distinguished Fellow of the Institute of Advanced Studies (IAS), Durham University since 2022. He is also a recipient of the Malaysia Toray Science Foundation Science & Technology Award and has been awarded the Universiti Malaya Excellent Lecturer (Sciences) Award 2019, Universiti Malaya Distinguished Researcher Award 2022 and UTAR Annual Research Excellence Award. The Nobel Committee for Physics on behalf of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences invited him as a nominator for “The Nobel Prize in Physics for 2021”. Stanford University recognized and placed him in World's Top 2% Scientists for Career-Long Citation Impact. Based on “Google Scholar’, he is ranked among the Top 1% in his field under the research titles “Polymer Electrolyte”, “Electrolyte” and “Electrochemical Devices”. In addition, he is the Principal Investigator for many interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary projects under Erasmus+ International Capacity Building projects. On the global front, he was recognized as the Invited Scientist for World Science Forum and World Economic Forum. He has won awards in many innovation exhibitions. Notably, he bagged the “Best Award for Best Invention in Technology Reversing Climate Change” in ITEX 2023, “Best of the Best Award - Asian Invention Excellence Award” in ITEX 2021 and BEST of the BEST Award during PECIPTA 2013. His major contribution to society is through the service and knowledge as a scholar of the ASM, Royal Society, RSC, GYA, TWAS, TYAN, IAP, Erasmus and IUPAC.
show more »Associate Professor ChM. Dr. Noraini Ahmad is a certified chemist recognized under the Malaysian Chemist Act 1975. She currently serves as an Associate Professor at the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, Universiti Malaya. Her academic journey began with a BSc (Hons) in Applied Chemistry from Universiti Malaya in 2003, followed by a MSc in Colloid and Surface Chemistry in 2008, and a PhD in Physical Chemistry in 2012 from the same institution. During her doctoral studies, Dr. Noraini completed a prestigious research attachment at the Instituto de Química Avanzada de Cataluña - Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (IQAC-CSIC), Barcelona, Spain (2010–2012), supported by the InForm Project under the EU-FP7 programme and Malaysia’s Ministry of Higher Education. In 2015, she was selected to represent Malaysia as a Nanobiotechnology Scientist at the Workshop of Scientists from Russia and ASEAN Countries on Nanobiotechnology in Vladivostok, Russia. Her academic career began at the Centre for Foundation Studies, International Islamic University Malaysia (CFS IIUM), where she served as a lecturer for over three years. She joined Universiti Malaya in 2008 and was appointed as a Lecturer in 2012, promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2013, and later to Associate Professor in 2021. Dr. Noraini currently holds several key administrative roles at Universiti Malaya, including: Director, Universiti Malaya Community Engagement Centre (UMCares) Coordinator, Formulation and Product Development Unit, Centre for Natural Products Research and Drug Discovery (CENAR) STEM Representative, Faculty of Science, Universiti Malaya STEM Centre She has also served in leadership and academic roles such as Deputy Director and Fellow of UMCares, Programme Coordinator for BSc (Chemistry), MQF Coordinator, and Head of Section (Physical Chemistry) from 2019 to 2024. Internationally, Dr. Noraini has been honored as a Visiting Professor at several universities and frequently invited as a keynote and plenary speaker at international conferences. Her areas of expertise include Physical Chemistry particularly colloid chemistry, surfactants, self-assembly, liquid crystals, chemical kinetics, and green chemistry as well as Nanomaterials Formulation and Drug Delivery Systems. Her research primarily focuses on the development of nanocarrier systems using lipids and surfactants for applications in pharmaceuticals, medical therapeutics, cosmeceuticals, and nutraceuticals. She has secured over MYR 12 million in research funding as Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator, demonstrating her active involvement and commitment to scientific research. Beyond teaching and research, Dr. Noraini is deeply engaged in university service and national development through various academic committees, research evaluations, and community programmes. She has received numerous awards and recognitions at both national and international levels for her outstanding contributions to science and education.
show more »Kim-Leng Goh is appointed as Honorary Professor at the Department of Economics and Applied Statistics, Faculty of Business and Economics, University of Malaya after his retirement from his professorial position at the same department. He received his degrees of Bachelor of Economics (Statistics) and Master of Economics from the University of Malaya, and PhD from Monash University (Australia). During his service, he held various academic administrative positions. He was the Deputy Dean of Higher Degree of FEA from September 2016-January 2018, and he held the same position from 2007-2012. He was the Head of Department of Applied Statistics, FEA from 2006-2007 and in 2020. From 2013-2016, he was appointed as the Deputy Director of the Global Planning & Strategy Centre under the Chancellery to assist the university in strategic planning and world university rankings. He served as the Editor of Malaysian Journal of Economic Studies (indexed in Scopus and ESCI) for about 20 years. He is an Advisor to the Capital Markets Review, and an editorial board member of the International Journal of Services, Economics and Management. He was also an editorial board member of the International Journal of Modelling in Operations Management. His areas of expertise include econometrics, financial econometrics, modeling and applied finance. He has published about 90 papers in refereed academic journals. He is currently supervising 5 PhD candidates, and more than 20 PhD candidates under his supervision have completed their studies.
