Dr. Karshini has a deep passion for diagnostic microbiology and parasitology. After earning her Master’s in Pathology (Microbiology) in 2022, she gained experience as a medical microbiologist at Hospital Kuala Lumpur and Hospital Queen Elizabeth in Kota Kinabalu. Her interests focus on diagnostic tools and technologies that can identify pathogens causing parasitic illnesses in laboratories. In December 2023, she joined the Department of Parasitology, University Malaya. Currently, Dr. Karshini is a medical lecturer in the Department of Parasitology at the University of Malaya and the coordinator of the Parasitology Diagnostic Unit at the University Malaya Medical Centre.
show more »She graduated BDS (Malaya) 1991, obtained Fellowship in Dental Surgery, Royal College of Surgeons of England (1998) after an Oral Maxillofacial Residency, trained at University of Hong Kong, obtained MOrth (Hong Kong) 2005, MOrth, Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (2006), and FDS RCSEd (2015). She served at Universiti Malaya from 2000, currently Head of Orthodontic Discipline, Head of AOBRRG research group and past Head of Department of Paediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics for 4 years. She has 21 ISI-indexed and 2 Scopus publications. Having supervised 14 postgraduate and 13 undergraduate research projects to completion, with 7 on-going research projects (3 international), her research scope includes growth modification with functional appliances, dentofacial deformities, clear aligners, sleep apnea, and stem cell. She has various national and international industrial and external research group collaborations. She reviews for 9 international ISI journals and 4 national journals, is panel for Malaysian Dental Council, Professional Qualifying Examination and has reviewed for National Specialist Registration for Orthodontic specialists. She is part of the UMRG grant panel review. She is external examiner for Royal Colleges of England and Glasgow, MOrth Part II and MFDS, Master and PhD postgraduate programs at IIUM, UiTM, Universiti Malaya.
show more »Ridha is the Director at Centre for Research in Industry (CRI) 4.0 and Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, University of Malaya. He obtained Doctor of Engineering from Utsunomiya University Japan in 2015, specializing in magnetic abrasive finishing for superfinishing of tube internal surface for clean environment applications. Prior to his doctoral study, he worked in Mazak Corporation as Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, focusing on CNC prototype machine design and evaluation for mass production and customization. He involved in the design and development of several CNC machines including Mazak's Quick Turn Nexus series and had performed more than 100 variations of cutting parameters to confirm the machine`s limits and capabilities. Currently, he is collaborating with the Joining and Welding Research Institute (JWRI), Osaka University Japan to develop friction stir welding in semiconductor and aerospace applications. The project explores the possibilities of joining similar and dissimilar materials such as polycarbonate/aluminium, aluminium/stainless steel, magnesium/steel, aluminium/copper for various fundamental and applications. He was awarded the Distinguished International Associate from the Royal Academic of Engineering UK in 2023 for his project on friction stir welding. He actively applies for research grants and up to date, he has secured more than 30 projects from domestic and international funders. He has completed supervision of 7 PhD and 8 Master students, and currently supervising 8 PhD and 3 Master candidates.
