Dr Ramesh Kasi graduated PhD from University of Malaya in 2007. His research interests focus on electrochemical applications of polymer materials which are used in energy storage systems and corrosion protection. He joined as Senior Lecturer in Physics Department in 2010 and got promoted as Professor in 2024. 25 PhD and 25 MSc have been graduated under the guidance of Dr Ramesh and currently 11 PhD and 2 Master degree students are pursuing their studies under his supervision. He has served in many administrative positions as Quality Manager, Programme Coordinator, Treasurer for the Centre for Ionics Universiti Malaya, Course file coordinator, Curriculum Review Committee for MSc Applied Physics and Industrial Training Coordinator. He has published more than 280 research papers in high ranked journals having 10,080 citations and h-index of 55. He has been successful in securing substantial funds for research from Universiti Malaya (UMRG and UMRP) and Malaysian government funding agencies (FRGS, PRGS), Tin Industry (Research and Development) Board , international funding like Erasmus+ (4 grants), Nippon Sheet Glass Foundation and ASEAN India Research Collaboration grant (2 grants). He has got 2 Malaysian patent granted and 2 patent filed for his credit. Dr Ramesh has been elected as the Fellow in Royal Society of Chemistry (UK) and Institute of Materials Malaysia. He has received several awards and medals in participating international technological expo including ITEX, MTE, PECIPTA, IRIISE and BioMalaysia. He won Tun Lim Keng Yaik Award for best invention in technology reversing climate change (ITEX 2023), WINNER – category 1 - Gold Award - International Borneo Innovation, Exhibition & Competition 2023 (IBIEC 2023), Automotive Excellent Award (1st Place)- 12th Creation, Innovation, Technology & Research Exposition (CITREX 2022), Gold Award, and Best Award, AIIREX 2022, Asian Invention Excellence Award, ITEX 2021, Automotive Special Award – 1st Place- CITREX 2021, Special Award - MTE 2020 - Croatia Inova, Malaysian Technology Expo, 2020, Professional Special Award - International Research Innovation, Invention & Solution Exposition (IRIISE 2018), International Eureka Innovation Exhibition (iEIE 2017) Best Award in “Environmental Protection and Renewable Energy” category, CHAMPION – RM 50,000 Project Award, UTP Innovation Competition in conjunction with UTP 20th Year Anniversary Celebration, "The Best Award" in Malaysian Technology Expo (MTE 2016, Best Poster presentation ICFMD 2015, ITEX 2015 and Best Invention Award, Pecipta 2013 Gold Medal, Best of the Best Award in Electrical and Electronics Category. He has involved in organizing international conferences (ICFMD 2013, 2015, 2019, 2021, and 2024, Solar Asia 2013, CoMSE 2023. and international advisory committee in many international conferences) and participated as panel of judges in national science fair for children. show more »Dr Penny Lott Pooi Wah is a consultant ophthalmologist and medical lecturer in the Department of Ophthalmology, University of Malaya. She completed her medical degree (MBBS) in 2008 and Master of Ophthalmology in 2016, both in University of Malaya. She also won the award as the best master student in her national post graduate ophthalmology examination in Malaysia. In addition, she also completed the external international ophthalmology examination, FRCOphth (UK) and was concurrently admitted as a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologist in United Kingdom in 2016. Dr Penny Lott subsequently pursued her 3 years medical retina and uveitis fellowship training in University of Malaya, Singapore National Eye Center and St James Leeds Teaching Hospital in United Kingdom. Besides that, she also completed a fellowship attachment in the prestigious Moorfield’s Eye Hospital, London. Her fellowship training at various renowned centers had ensured her subspecialty clinical knowledge gained is at a high level. Dr Penny Lott has a strong interest in the field of medical retina, ocular inflammatory diseases and latest multimodal imaging innovation. She has published papers in several peer reviewed journals and contributed book chapters for ophthalmology trainees. She also had international collaborative research and publication with the Singapore National Eye Centre and St James Leeds Teaching Hospital in United Kingdom. She is also a reviewer for the International Journal of Ophthalmology. She is also frequently invited for medical talks related to her subspecialty in local national conferences as well as ASEAN ophthalmology conference. Prior to this, she served in Sabah for 8 years since her commencement of internship back in 2008 where she was actively involved in eye screening programs in remote areas and participated in cataract camps in Sabah. Her performances in Arizona, USA, and at the Conservatorio de las Rosas in Morelia, Mexico, received outstanding newspaper reviews. One reviewer praised her as a pianist “who has the power to communicate her emotions intensely,” while another remarked that her concert left the audience “weeping with gratitude and admiration.” Chiew Hwa’s notable solo performances include the University of Arizona Pianists on Tour in the U.S. and Mexico, the Gijón International Piano Festival in Spain, recitals in Kuala Lumpur, and a concerto performance with the Missouri State University Symphony Orchestra. She has appeared as a guest artist at various universities, including Valley City State University, Missouri State University, the University of Malaya, and Conservatorio de las Rosas, among others. Additionally, she has been invited to present masterclasses at several institutions. Chiew Hwa has received numerous awards throughout her career. She won first place at the 2009 Missouri Music Teachers Association state piano competition and was selected as the alternate winner of the Music Teachers National Association Young Artist Competition (State-2009). In 2014, she secured First Prize and the Audience Prize at the Fifth Annual Lois Trester Piano Competition. Her winning performance was later broadcast on the local NPR station KUAT-FM in Tucson, Arizona. In addition to her performance achievements, she is an active adjudicator in various piano competitions across Malaysia. Chiew Hwa is recognized for her innovative music and movement sessions, tailored for diverse audiences, including dementia patients, senior citizens, children, and high school bands. Her research on music and movement has been featured in both local and international publications, underscoring her commitment to advancing this field. Dr. Poon is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Malaya and serves as a music examiner for Trinity College London. She holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Piano Performance from the University of Arizona, where she studied under Professor Tannis Gibson. She also earned the Applied Credential in Dalcroze Education from the Longy School of Music in Boston.
