PROF. DR. ESTHER GNANAMALAR SAROJINI A/P A DANIEL

Prof. Dr. Esther Daniel Medical Education, Research and Development Unit (MERDU), Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya    Areas of Expertise  & Background Science Education (Biology); Environmental Education / Education for Sustainable Development; Science Teacher Education, Medical Education; Integrating Technology in Teaching; Learning and Cognition; Metacognition, Pedagogies     Esther was formerly attached to the Department of Mathematics and Science Education, Faculty of Education, University of Malaya. She has been a teacher educator for more than two decades. Previous to that she was a science teacher in premier schools such as Sekolah Datuk Abdul Razak, Seremban, the Malay College Kuala Kangsar and Sekolah Tuanku Abdul Rahman, Ipoh. Her area of expertise and background is in science education, environmental education, technology integration in the science classroom and learning and cognition and has conducted numerous training workshops and seminars related to research, pedagogies and has been a Master trainer for new lecturers in institutions of Higher Learning. Her research has focused on science education, in particular biology and environmental education. Numerous students under her supervision have successfully completed their postgraduate studies. She has worked with WWF-Malaysia in conducting in-depth research and in training teachers in infusing sustainable development education. She has published papers in journals as well as presented at various conferences both local and International. She has written numerous training modules for the teaching and learning of Science, for Environmental Education and for Qualitative Research Methods. More recently she has also been involved in Medical Education with a focus on the cognition of learning. Among the books she has written are ‘Biology Education in a Changing Planet’ and ‘Cognition in Science Education’. In 2016, Esther received the UNESCO-HAMDAN international award for the effective training of teachers. In 2017 she received the Venus International Women’s Award (VIWA) for a ‘Lifetime Achievement in Science Education (Specialisation-Biology). She has also served as the chair of the National Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) Eco-Campus Committee. Recently (2018) she was awarded the Excellence Award for the academic with the highest international grant by the Universiti Malaya. Esther is now an Honorary Professor in the Medical Education, Research and Development Unit, Faculty of Medicine UM. She was involved with the development and implementation of the MOHRE (Master of Health Research Ethics) programme in the Faculty of Medicine. She is also attached to the UM-WWF-M Living Planet Centre, a research centre, as an affiliated member and has just completed the Sustainable Development nation-wide research. Esther together with PPPLS (Pertubuhan Pendidikan Pembangunan Lestari Selangor conducted a nation-wide resesearch - Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) research (2022-2023). Furthermore, she is also involved with the UNESCO-Chair Project for Education for Sustainable Development (2022 – 2024) in collaboration with Asia Pacific University (APU). Esther is also one of the consultants for the project ‘Transformational Learning through ESD: Mission 4.7’ with the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) located at the Jeffrey Sachs Centre, Sunway University (2023-2024)

PROFESSOR DATO' DR. YANG FARIDAH BINTI ABDUL AZIZ

Dr. Yang Faridah Abdul Aziz is an academic professor and a consultant radiologist. She is currently the Dean of the Faculty of medicine, Universiti Malaya, Malaysia. She received her undergraduate and postgraduate training at the University of Malaya. She underwent a clinical attachment in Cardiac Imaging in the United States of America in 2000/2001. She completed the Essential Skills in Medical Education course and was awarded the ESME certificate in Medical Education in 2019. She is an alumnus of the IDC programme organized by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) focusing on training academics on higher education and change management. She completed a Master of Medical Education programme at University Malaya in 2022, in her bid to acquire new knowledge and be a lifelong learner. Over the years, she has honed her skills in the academic, professional clinical service and managerial endeavours.  As an academic, she is involved in developing, implementing, and ensuring quality improvement of the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes at the University Malaya. As the Deputy Dean of Undergraduate programmes (2015-2021), she helmed and aided the shift to e-learning and the use of digital platforms during the Covid-19 pandemic. She has collaborated with national and regional partners and looks forward to continuing participation in impactful research and best practices in the field of medical education. As a consultant radiologist, she provides clinical services at the University of Malaya teaching hospital, known as the University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) as well as the University Malaya Specialist Centre (UMSC). She was instrumental in setting up the cardiac imaging services utilizing CT and MRI at UMMC and UMSC. Cardiac Imaging is her niche area of research and she has formed institutional, national, and international collaborations and research in this area. Yang Faridah had been entrusted with numerous roles and responsibilities especially in education including (and not limited to) duties as programme coordinator, head of department, a council member in a professional body (College of Radiology), SETARA member (under the Malaysian Qualifying Agency), member of the Malaysian Medical Council (2017- 2023), chair of the Medical Education Committee for the Malaysian Medical Council (2020-2023) and deputy dean at the Faculty of Medicine University Malaya (2015 - 2021). She is currently a senate member for Universiti Malaya, a senate representative to the Board of Directors of Universiti Malaya, a member of the Medical Education Committee for the Malaysian Medical Council and a member for the education and training committee of the Asian Oceanian Society of Radiology. She continues to dream passionately, embrace the art of seeking knowledge, remain curious, and create possibilities in her career and her life. DR. MOHAMAD BIN HUSSIN

MOHAMAD HUSSIN was born in Sik, Kedah, Malaysia, in 1975. He received a Bachelor's degree in Arabic Language and Literature from the Al al-Bayt University, Jordan, in 1999, and a Master of Modern Language Studies from the University of Malaya in 2007. In 2017, he received Ph.D. degrees in Arabic Language studies from the Universiti Putra Malaysia. In 2017 he joined the Department of Arabic and Middle East Languages, Faculty of Languages and Linguistics, University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur as a Senior Lecturer. He has taught a variety of courses in Arabic Language Studies at undergraduate programs and supervised some postgraduate MA and Ph.D. candidates.  His research interests include learning Arabic as a second language, Arabic for specific purposes, Arabic Language Studies, translation Arabic to Malaya and Arabic Rhetorical especially the Prophet Muhammad (saw) bayān. He has published articles in international and national journals, books, and other publications. One of his remarkable works is he published a few article journals indexed by WoS and Scopus.  Apart from his teaching experiences, he is actively taking part as thesis examiners and article reviewers, both at local and international levels. Besides than that, he is also assigned as one of the editorial board members in some of the acknowledged journals, International Journal of Humanities and Journal of Language Teaching, Literature and Linguistics (JLTLL), to name a few. In addition, he has been appointed as Chief Editor for al-Dad Journal.
