Nik Daliana Nik Farid earned her medical degree from the University of Adelaide, South Australia in 2001. Upon graduation, she joined the Malaysian government service and did house officer training and medical officer work at Kuala Lumpur Hospital. In 2005, she joined the Institute for Public Health where she was appointed as the Main Research Group member for the Third National Health and Morbidity Survey. In 2007, she went on to study at the University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur where she received her Master of Public Health (MPH) and Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) degrees. In 2012, she served as the second Medical Officer of Health at Mukah Division Health Office, Sarawak where she covered two major sections namely Epidemiology as well as Maternal and Child Health. Nik Daliana then continued her service as the Head of Primary Health Care Unit at the Hulu Langat District Health Office, Selangor. She left the Ministry of Health in August 2013 to serve the University of Malaya. Nik Daliana is currently a Medical Lecturer in the Department of Social and Peventive Medicine with a specialisation in Public Health. She has a special interest in adolescent health. More specifically her work aims to address the five areas, namely sexual and reproductive health, mental health, nutritional health, physical activity and high risk behaviour. Her contribution to this field include: conducting research on sexual risk behaviour among incarcerated adolescents in welfare institutions; assessing for non-communicable diseases among school-going adolesents and setting up of an adolescent friendly website for quasi experimental study. Also, she is involved in the collection and distribution of literatures pertaining to adolescent's health by a clearinghouse centre in UM. Nik Daliana is presently a member of the Malaysian Association for Adolescent Health (MAAH); Malaysian Clearinghouse Center for Adolescent Health (MyCCAdH); Malaysian Care for Adolescent Project (MyCAP); Malaysian Health and Adolescents Longitudinal Research Study (MyHeARTs) and Ministry of Health Malaysia National Technical Committee for Adolescent Health. Nik Daliana teaches Family Health to postgraduate and undergraduate students. She coordinates one postgraduate course in 2019/20 i.e. Society, Behaviour and Health. A strong advocate of problem-based learning (PBL) technique, Nik Daliana tutors PBL sessions for Stage 1 and 2 University of Malaya Medical Programme (UMMP) students. Administratively, Nik Daliana has coordinated Master of Public Health and Master of Medical Science (Public Health) programmes. Currently, she coordinates the Doctor of Public Health Programme and assists in the coordination of the University of Malaya-Kyoto University Double Degree Programme for Public Health. 

Dr. Foong Chan Choong is an expert in educational psychology, interdisciplinary studies, curriculum design, and psychometric. Dr. Foong, an Associate Professor at the Medical Education and Research Development Unit (MERDU) of the Faculty of Medicine at Universiti Malaya, is an educator and researcher in the field of health professions education. He is a member of the Young Scientist Network – Academy Sciences Malaysia (YSN-ASM) and has been conferred the honor of Fellow of the Foundation for Advancement of International Medical Education and Research (FAIMER) PSG Regional Institute, India. He holds a first-class honors bachelor's degree in Science with Education from Universiti Malaya, where he also obtained his PhD in Education. Dr. Foong joined MERDU in 2013 and played a crucial role in the development of the university's new undergraduate medical curriculum. He initiated a new curriculum development project at the post-graduate level and in 2016, he developed the Master of Medical Education, which commenced in 2018 and he has been serving as the founding program coordinator until now. He is also responsible for teaching educational psychology, instructional design, and research methodology for the master's program. His proficiency and deep understanding of the development, implementation, and improvement of outcome-based education (OBE) academic programmes have led to his appointment as the Programme Quality Assurance Expert (ProQAE) at Universiti Malaya. In this role, he regularly advises and evaluates accreditation for academic programs as the chairperson of the accreditation panel. Dr. Foong Chan Choong is an educationist of great accomplishment, who has dedicated his career to teaching and research. With a passion for interacting with students and teacher trainees, he finds great satisfaction and motivation in his work. Currently, he is involved in teaching the Postgraduate Diploma of Education (Physics specialisation) at the Faculty of Education. In addition to his role in medical education / health professions education, Dr. Foong has also ventured into the field of engineering education. He is a lifelong learner, constantly seeking out new knowledge and experiences. His current research is multidisciplinary in nature, spanning the medical, dental and other health professions, engineering, physics and music education. Dr. Foong's research interests are diverse, with many of his publications focusing on educational psychology. To date, he has published more than 70 publications. He holds several editorial positions, including associate editor for the Annals of Medicine (Medical Education section) (WoS Journal Citation Report 2024 Quartile 1), executive editor for the Malaysian Journal of Qualitative Research, and editorial board member for several international journals (WoS Journal Citation Report 2024 Quartile 1). Dr. Foong plays an active role in the academic community. At present, he is the executive treasurer for the Qualitative Research Association Malaysia and also serves as an executive committee member for the Malaysian Association of Education in Medical and Health Sciences (MAEMHS). In addition to his academic pursuits, Dr. Foong is also an innovator, with several of his projects receiving recognition at the university, national, and international levels. He is also involved in community service, coaching the debate team at his alma mater, a secondary school in Perak. The school has achieved recognition at the state, national, and international levels.

Prof. Lim is the leading scientist in the region on Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs) research. His scholarly contributions extend beyond mere publications, encompassing groundbreaking scientific discoveries, capacity building, and impactful networking through his involvement in HAB-related national and international organizations. He has published over 170 scientific papers, including 111 ISI papers. His impressive H-index of 28 (Web of Science), and >2467 total citations (WoS) reflect the influence of his work.   Prof. Lim plays an active leadership role internationally in various HAB-related bodies. He has been the Vice President of the International Society for the Study of Harmful Algae (ISSHA) for three consecutive terms (2018-Present); a Council member of ISSHA (2016-2018); the Vice-chair and Committee member of UNESCO IOC SCOR GLOBALHAB Program (2016-2019, 2020-2023); the Co-chair of the UNESCO-IOC WESTPAC Harmful Algal Blooms Program (WESTPAC-HABs) (2010-Present).   To date, he has secured and completed over 20 research projects, with research grants amounting to more than 5 million received from national and international funding agencies. His research has led to the identification of more than 15 harmful algal species that are new to science and many new records in the country. Notably, several of these species are named after him to recognize his achievements in HABs research for the past two decades, including Pseudo-nitzschia limii, Heterocapsa limii, and Alexandrium limii, a testament to his enduring impact in this field. He contributes to various national and international working groups in his area of expertise, serving as a task team member of UNESCO IOC IPHAB, an expert panel in the National Technical Working Group of Biotoxins and HABs, and the Task Force of Import/Export Seafood Product and Safety (DOF Kelantan).  He is an international advisory committee member of T-SMART Marine Station of Xiamen University (2016-Present), and an Adjunct Professor at the University of Tokyo (2019-present). Dr. Lim's expertise extends to editorial responsibilities. He serves as an associate editor to ISI journals, Elsevier’s Journal of Harmful Algae (Q1) (2018-Present), and Plankton and Benthos Research (PBR). His outstanding contributions have garnered national and international acclaim. He was awarded the ASM Top Research Scientist of Malaysia (TRSM) in 2021; and recognized as a senior scientist under the Chinese Academy of Science, President International Fellowship Initiative (CAS-PIFI) in 2024. He was awarded the Senior Visiting Fellowship of the State Key Lab in Marine Environmental Sciences (MEL), by Xiamen University for three consecutive years (2018-2019, 2020-2021). Dr Lim has delivered >150 presentations at national and international conferences, including a plenary talk at the International Conference on Harmful Algae, Hiroshima Japan in 2023. He has also been invited to deliver an ASM Fascinate Talk, and numerous seafood safety and biosecurity outreach and educational talks to relevant authorities. In his academic career over the two decades, he has been responsible for teaching and course development at undergraduate to postgraduate levels. More than 60 final-year project (FYP) students, 37 MSc students, and 12 Ph.D. candidates have completed their studies under his supervision.    Po Teen is a registered consultant under the Natural Resources and Environmental Board (NREB) and a registered subject specialist under the Department of Environment Malaysia (DOE). He is actively involved in consultancy projects whenever his expertise in marine science is needed.    Dr. Lim Po Teen began his academic career at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) in 2000 and was promoted to Senior Lecturer (2008) and Associate Professor (2013).  He joined  UM in January 2014 to lead the newly established Bachok Marine Research Station at the Institute of Ocean and Earth Sciences, UM, and was promoted to full Professor in 2024.    updated December 2024
