Dr Lim is an Associate Professor of occupational and public health at the Universiti Malaya (UM). He holds a Doctor of Public Health (DrPH), Master of Public Health (MPH), and Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from UM, as well as a Master in Occupational Safety and Health (MOSH) from the University of Turin, Italy Prior to joining UM, he worked for the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH), the district health office, and the Institute of Medical Research (IMR). A primary interest of him relates to the influence of the circadian system on chronic disease and mental health in humans. He also studies shift work as a surrogate for exposure to light at night including related biomarkers for cancer, metabolic syndrome, and mental health. In 2019, he was awarded a distinction in thesis titled "Health Effects of Night-shift Work Among Manufacuting Workers" when he obtained his DrPH. Since 2021, Dr. Lim has participated in 26 projects, collectively securing grants exceeding USD 685 thousand (RM 3 million). As Principal Investigator, he has led studies on night shift work, fatigue, and non-communicable diseases. Dr Lim's main successful project as a Principal Investigator was the development of facial anthropometric data for Malaysian in 2021. The project worth more than USD 85 thousand (RM 345,000.00), which comprised 4,000 participants from all over Malaysia. The study aimed to produce suitable respirators (n-95) that fit the Malaysian population. This project resulted in the publication of four ISI Q1 and Q2 papers. The papers were presented during the 34th International Commission on Occupational Health (ICOH) Congress 2024, where he was the second Malaysian recipient honoured with the International Commission on Occupational Health (ICOH)-International Labour Organisation (ILO) Master Fellowship Award 2024. He is also the recipient of the Researcher Mobility and Networking Programme by National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) Taiwan 2024 and the award of Naveen Jindal Young Global Research Fellowship (2025-26). Additionally, Dr. Lim serves as an article reviewer for prominent academic journals, which include BMJ Open, Plos One, and BMC Public Health. Dr. Lim is actively engaged in the production of media pieces, with a particular emphasis on subjects pertaining to occupational safety and health, as well as non-communicable diseases. Since the year 2021, he has successfully disseminated a total of 65 media articles. In addition to his research endeavours, Dr. Lim is committed to mentoring the next generation of healthcare professionals and researchers. Currently, there are over 12 PHDs (3 graduated) and 16 master candidates (12 graduated) under his supervision. His teaching contributions extend globally, including the development and delivery of online occupational health courses on the FutureLearn platform, as well as the publication of a 300-page textbook on occupational health and a book chapter in Springer on Climate Change. His dedication to improving safety and health, teaching and research excellence has earned him recognition as the Best Lecturer (non-clinical) for the Universiti Malaya Medical Programme in 2024 and Certificate for Excellent Service UM in 2024. Dr. Lim's expertise and contributions extend beyond academia, as he frequently collaborates with healthcare organisations and policymakers to translate research findings into practical applications that benefit public health. show more »Dr Jazlan Jamaluddin is a senior lecturer and family medicine specialist at Universiti Malaya (UM), based in the Department of Primary Care Medicine, Faculty of Medicine. Before joining UM, he served for more than ten years in the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH), working across primary, secondary and tertiary care, and gaining experience in both rural and urban communities. These years of service gave him a strong, practical understanding of how healthcare functions on the ground, how health systems operate and how patient centred care can be strengthened. During his time in MOH, he also conducted research in real clinical settings, adding depth and relevance to his academic work. At UM, he now combines teaching, clinical practice and research, guiding students and trainees while continuing to provide frontline care. His research focuses on chronic disease management, medication optimisation and patient self management in primary care. He has written or co written numerous peer reviewed journal articles and contributes regularly to national and international primary care publications. He has received multiple awards at national and regional scientific conferences and is actively involved in national professional committees, editorial boards and the development of clinical guidelines. His work is relevant to Malaysian healthcare while also aligning with broader global health priorities. He welcomes collaboration with partners who value practical insight and evidence based approaches, drawing on deep experience across healthcare levels, a strong academic platform at UM and access to primary care networks that support meaningful, locally grounded research.
show more »Cheong Fei Wen obtained her Bachelor Degree in Biomedical Science (with distinction) from Universiti Malaya (UM), Malaysia. She passed her PhD with distinction and is currently holding the post of senior lecturer in the Department of Parasitology, Faculty of Medicine, UM. Since PhD study, she explored into several malaria-related aspects, including protein expression of the Plasmodium knowlesi merozoite surface proteins; immunogenicity study using animal model; and epitope mapping. Her current research interests include phenotypic and genotypic measures on Plasmodium sp. resistance against anti-malarials, immunogenicity profiling of potential malarial vaccine candidates, and genome engineering in P. knowlesi using CRISPR-Cas9 system. With her deep passion in research, she has been successfully selected and awarded to attend several international workshops/courses including Ungku Omar-Newton Fund Researcher Links Workshop: Neglected Disease in SEA: Building Capacity in Epidemiological Modelling (University of Malaya, Malaysia & Imperial College London, UK) and Wellcome Genome Campus Advanced Course: Malaria Experimental Genetics (WGCAC, UK). She has also obtained and be part of 10 research grants, including UM Research Fund Assistance (BKP), UM Research Excellence Grant (UMREG), Postgraduate Research Fund (PPP), Frontier Research Grant (FRG), Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS), and Long Term Research Grant Scheme (LRGS), with total amount exceeding RM 2 million. With that, she has published more than 30 articles in ISI-indexed journals. She is currently the assistant editor of the Journal of Health and Translational Medicine (JUMMEC), associate editor of Asia Pacific Journal of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (APJMBB), and editorial board member of Tropical Biomedicine. She was the council member for Malaysian Society of Parasitology and Tropical Medicine (MSPTM) in 2019-2020. She received excellent service certificate and excellent service award, UM in 2019 and 2024, respectively. She has been appointed as Programme Coordinator and assisted the department to develop a new Master by Coursework programme (Master of Medical Parasitology and Entomology, MMPE). She is also the course coordinator for courses in MMPE and Biomedical Science Programme. She is the committee member of Quality Assurance Programme - Quality Committee, Faculty of Medicine (FOM) from 2020. With her interest in academic curriculum, she has also been appointed as Programme Quality Assurance Expert (Pro-QAE) of FOM in 2021, and Pro-QAE of UM in 2024 to assist in programme curriculum related matters. In 2025, she has been appointed as FOM Deputy Quality Manager (ProQAE and stakeholders' feedback).
