Dr. Wahib M. Atroosh, hailing from Yemen, is a senior lecturer in the Department of Parasitology at Universiti Malaya (UM), where he has been a faculty member since 2019. He began his academic journey in the same department, completing his Master's degree in 2012, and subsequently pursued a PhD, which he earned with Distinction in 2017. Dr. Wahib's research focuses primarily on Plasmodium falciparum, the parasite responsible for the majority of severe malaria cases and deaths in humans, known for its high mortality rate and increasing resistance to antimalarial drugs. His expertise includes monitoring antimalarial drug resistance through in vivo clinical trials and the application of molecular gene markers of drug resistance. In addition to his primary research on malaria, Dr. Wahib collaborates with local and international research teams, including partnerships with the Medical Research Center at Jazan University in Saudi Arabia, the School of Biological Science at Universiti Sains Malaysia, and the College of Health Sciences, Nigeria. These collaborations explore the epidemiology, genotyping, and molecular characterisation of antimalarial drug resistance in P. falciparum isolates from both Saudi Arabia and Nigeria. Dr. Wahib's contributions to the field of parasitology extend to other areas, including research on leishmaniasis, intestinal protozoa, schistosomiasis, soil-transmitted helminths (STH), and parasite-related health education programs. Dr. Wahib has also been involved in developing a novel gene marker aimed at differentiating P. falciparum isolates, enhancing the correctness of the malaria therapeutic efficacy studies outcome. Throughout his career at UM, Dr. Wahib has successfully secured internal and external research grants and contributed to 46 publications in indexed journals with an h-index of 21 and a total of 1,845 citations. He was also awarded the Universiti Malaya Excellent Service Award (APC) for the year 2023. Dr. Wahib actively contributes to the academic community as a member of scientific and technical committees and serves as a judge at international conferences. He is also a peer reviewer for several esteemed journals, including Scientific Reports, PLoS ONE, PLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases, Parasites & Vectors, Malaria Journal, Transactions of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, BMC Medicine, Pathogens and Global Health, and Tropical Biomedicine. show more »Dr. Husaina Banu Kenayathulla is an Associate Professor at Department of Educational Management, Planning and Policy. She obtained her PhD from Indiana University, Bloomington, USA. Currently, she serves as the Deputy Dean (Postgraduate Studies). Her research interests include Education policy, Economics and Finance in education, Comparative and International education and Higher Education. She has published more than 60 peer-reviewed publications. Leadership experience includes Deputy Dean (Research and Enterprise), Head of Department, Chief Liaison Officer, Risk Manager, and Course Coordinator. Editorial experience includes positions such as Editor-in Chief, Associate Editor, Editorial Advisory Board Member, and Peer reviewer of education journals. Has co-edited a Special issue in the International Journal of Education Development. Latest book chapter is published by Springer Nature Singapore. Notable journal publications include papers in International Journal of Education Development, Asia Pacific Education Review, Heliyon and COMPARE: A Journal of Comparative and International Education. She has been invited as a speaker for panel sessions at various international conferences. She had been invited as a Panel Expert by UNESCO in projects such as Shadow Education, Micro certification, Artificial Intelligence, Developing Subject Specific Quality Standards in the Asia Pacific region. She has been the Principal Investigator for grants at the national and international levels on School Finance, Digital Financial literacy, Financial Literacy, Employability, Internationalization, and Comparative & Higher Education projects. She is also a recipient of the SATU project in collaboration with National Chung Cheng University, Taiwan in Comparative and Sustainable Education Project. She has collaborated with Universitas Negeri Semarang, Indonesia on entrepreneurship and sustainability projects. She is also involved as a Consultant for the Organization of Islamic Countries (OIC) project on Quality Education, Malaysian Ministry of Human Resource on Employability for TVET Graduates & Malaysian Ministry of Education for Policy on Lifelong Learning, Compulsory Education, and District Education Ranking Measures.
show more »Dr. Mumtaz Aini Alivi is Senior Lecturer at the Department of Media and Communication Studies, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. She earned her Bachelor of Art (Hons) with a double major in (i) Language and Malay Linguistics and (ii) Journalism from Universiti Putra Malaysia. She earned her Master of Corporate Communication and Doctor of Philosophy (Mass Communication) from the same university.Her research interests and focuses are mainly in Journalism, Broadcasting, News, Online Media, Political Communication, and Mass Communication. Apart from her academic qualifications, Dr. Mumtaz also has broad experiences in journalism, news, broadcasting, and media industry management. She was a media practitioner for twenty-two years in a government television station, Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM). For almost twenty years, she was attached to the News and Current Affairs department, where she was involved with multitasking work in her position as Broadcast Journalist, Newscaster, News Editor, and News Producer. Her service to RTM exposed her to many challenging assignments, including following the prime minister and country leaders for international news coverage abroad, doing live news coverage and news reporting from the parliament, and other important events in the country, apart from daily news coverage. Upon completion of her PhD, Dr. Mumtaz was given a different task in RTM as Assistant Director for the Policy and Research section. Later, she held the same position in the Strategic Planning section before being transferred to the Quality Control for Creative Content Unit as Evaluation Officer. These three different sections are under the Strategic Development Department, where she spent another two more years in RTM. During her service in RTM, she also worked for a few months in Malaysian National News Agency (BERNAMA) as a journalist under the government staff exchange program between RTM and BERNAMA. She gained valuable experiences through the BERNAMA newswire service and BERNAMA TV. Prior to joining RTM, she completed her internship in a private TV station, Sistem Televisyen Malaysia (TV3). In total, she has extensive exposure and experience in the media industry, particularly in the news department, mainly in TV, some experience in radio, and in managerial and management duties. Her passion and enthusiasm for journalism finally culminated to winning the Best Broadcast Journalist award in 2001 at the national level.Being in the media industry for more than two decades and having academic qualifications in the same field, she was also appointed by few organizations for various tasks and consultancy work. Dr. Mumtaz was appointed as one of the panel of judges for the prestigious Malaysian Journalism Award organized by Malaysia Press Institute (MPI), panel for Pitching Evaluation (Private) and Panel for Screening (Syndicated) for programs in RTM, think tank member of Ciber Generation Laboratory in Institute for Social Science Studies (IPSAS), Universiti Putra Malaysia, and expert advisor for Promotion and Publicity in the University of Malaya. She is also on the editorial board of the Malaysian Journal of Media Studies.Dr. Mumtaz decided to shift from being a media practitioner to an academic staff at the University of Malaya in 2021 and begin a new career path with a bigger mission. She believes the educational field is the right platform to share all her knowledge and experience for the nation’s development and shape future leaders.
