Dr. Woo is a consultant gynaecological oncologist with clinical and research experience that ranges from prevention to treatment of cervical cancer and hereditary/ familial gynaecological cancers. She undertook her research in HPV immune-biology in the University of Cambridge under the Cancer Research UK Gordon Hamilton Fairley Fellowship and was awarded a PhD degree in 2008. As a clinician, she was awarded the gold medal by the Royal College of Obstetrician and Gynaecologist as the top ranked individual for the international examination. Having trained and worked in the UK, she returned to Malaysia in 2010 to take up a professorial post in the premier teaching hospital, University Malaya (UM). As a translational scientist, she has worked tirelessly to making this knowledge more accessible and applicable to the broader population through her advisory role on policy development nationally and internationally. She is also a recognized expert in HPV vaccination and is currently the country representative (Malaysia) for the Asia-Oceania Research Organisation in Genital Infection and Neoplasia (AOGIN), taskforce member for the Malaysian policy change to Primary HPV screening for cervical cancer, member of the Asia Pacific Economic Consortium (APEC) Cervical Cancer working group and is the founding principal investigator for Program ROSE (Removing Obstacles to cervical ScrEening, a revolutionary approach to cervical cancer screening. Program ROSE (www.programrose.org, @programROSE) that utilizes digital technology, self-sampling and HPV testing. The program was recently highlighted by the Economist Intelligence Unit (https://eiuperspectives.economist.com/healthcare/global-action-financing-cervical-cancer-elimination-funding-secondary-prevention-services-low). The program was a strong contender at the 2018 UICC Collaborative award, shortlisted among 2 other nominations globally, and has received many international accolades and praises. Program ROSE (www.programrose.org, @programROSE) utilizes digital technology, self-sampling and HPV testing to change the paradigm of conventional cervical screening, facilitating increased screening uptake for ALL woman. Dr Woo is also the founder of ROSE Foundation, a non-profit organisation, dedicated to making cervical cancer prevention accessible and affordable to the underprivileged. The success of Program ROSE is a testament to her incessant drive to make cervical cancer a rare disease in our lifetime. She also dedicates her time to working closely with other academic institutions, NGOS and also industry to educate, inform and advise on matters pertaining to control of HPV associated diseases. show more »I am a full time Professor at the Department of Anatomy, Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya. I received PhD from the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom in the field of Neuroscience. I am a trained Human Anatomist and have been teaching Gross and Clinical Anatomy to hundreds of undergraduate Medical (MBBS Year 1 & 2 ), Dental (BDS Year 1), and postgraduate surgical students (Master of Surgery & Master of ENT) and Dental postgraduates (MClintDent) for more than 30 years. I have wide experience in teaching Human Anatomy using human cadavers, plastinated specimens, models, online and hybrid methods. My main area of research is neural regeneration focusing on axonal mechanisms and extracellular matrix molecules related to regeneration processes in both the peripheral and central nervous systems. My research group is also involved in exploring natural products that can improve neural regeneration, and those which can enhance learning and memory. My other research interests include Cognitive Neuroscience aspects of Anatomical Education focusing in Cognitive Loads, Clinical Anatomy and Dental Implants. I have presented our work at many local and international conferences and published in many international indexed peer-reviewed journals. I have served as a reviewer for numerous journals and supervised many Master and PhD students. In addition, on the administration side I have served as the Head, Department of Anatomy over many years at Faculty of Medicine,University of Malaya. I hold membership at various societies including The Oxford and Cambridge Society Malaysia, Malaysian Society of Neurosciences and Malaysian Anatomical Association.
show more »Ridha is the Director at Centre for Research in Industry (CRI) 4.0 and Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, University of Malaya. He obtained Doctor of Engineering from Utsunomiya University Japan in 2015, specializing in magnetic abrasive finishing for superfinishing of tube internal surface for clean environment applications. Prior to his doctoral study, he worked in Mazak Corporation as Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, focusing on CNC prototype machine design and evaluation for mass production and customization. He involved in the design and development of several CNC machines including Mazak's Quick Turn Nexus series and had performed more than 100 variations of cutting parameters to confirm the machine`s limits and capabilities. Currently, he is collaborating with the Joining and Welding Research Institute (JWRI), Osaka University Japan to develop friction stir welding in semiconductor and aerospace applications. The project explores the possibilities of joining similar and dissimilar materials such as polycarbonate/aluminium, aluminium/stainless steel, magnesium/steel, aluminium/copper for various fundamental and applications. He was awarded the Distinguished International Associate from the Royal Academic of Engineering UK in 2023 for his project on friction stir welding. He actively applies for research grants and up to date, he has secured more than 30 projects from domestic and international funders. He has completed supervision of 7 PhD and 8 Master students, and currently supervising 8 PhD and 3 Master candidates.
