Associate Professor Dr Tan Kit Mun is a senior consultant geriatrician in the University of Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC). She received her medical degree from Trinity College, (MB. BCh. II Hons) University of Dublin, Ireland in 1999. Dr. Tan is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians Edinburgh (FRCP) UK. She completed her specialist training and received her Certificate of Satisfactory Completion of Specialist Training (CSCST) in Geriatric Medicine from the Irish Committee of Higher Medical Training, Royal College of Physicians Ireland in 2009. She was practising as a consultant geriatrician in Dublin, Ireland until 2012. Dr. Tan's special interest include stroke, atrial fibrillation, dementia, osteoporosis, hypertension in the older person and comprehensive geriatric assessment of the complex older person. Dr. Tan is also an Assoiciate Professor with the Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya. She is a trainer for the Malaysian Geriatric Medicine Specialist Training Scheme, Masters of Internal Medicine Programme in University of Malaya as well as the University of Malaya Medical Programme (UMMP). She is a member of the Malaysian Society of Geriatric Medicine (MSGM) and participates as a speaker and presenter of research findings at the annual Malaysian Congress of Geriatric Medicine (MCGM).
show more »Dr. Wahib M. Atroosh, hailing from Yemen, is a senior lecturer in the Department of Parasitology at Universiti Malaya (UM), where he has been a faculty member since 2019. He began his academic journey in the same department, completing his Master's degree in 2012, and subsequently pursued a PhD, which he earned with Distinction in 2017. Dr. Wahib's research focuses primarily on Plasmodium falciparum, the parasite responsible for the majority of severe malaria cases and deaths in humans, known for its high mortality rate and increasing resistance to antimalarial drugs. His expertise includes monitoring antimalarial drug resistance through in vivo clinical trials and the application of molecular gene markers of drug resistance. In addition to his primary research on malaria, Dr. Wahib collaborates with local and international research teams, including partnerships with the Medical Research Center at Jazan University in Saudi Arabia, the School of Biological Science at Universiti Sains Malaysia, and the College of Health Sciences, Nigeria. These collaborations explore the epidemiology, genotyping, and molecular characterisation of antimalarial drug resistance in P. falciparum isolates from both Saudi Arabia and Nigeria. Dr. Wahib's contributions to the field of parasitology extend to other areas, including research on leishmaniasis, intestinal protozoa, schistosomiasis, soil-transmitted helminths (STH), and parasite-related health education programs. Dr. Wahib has also been involved in developing a novel gene marker aimed at differentiating P. falciparum isolates, enhancing the correctness of the malaria therapeutic efficacy studies outcome. Throughout his career at UM, Dr. Wahib has successfully secured internal and external research grants and contributed to 46 publications in indexed journals with an h-index of 21 and a total of 1,845 citations. He was also awarded the Universiti Malaya Excellent Service Award (APC) for the year 2023. Dr. Wahib actively contributes to the academic community as a member of scientific and technical committees and serves as a judge at international conferences. He is also a peer reviewer for several esteemed journals, including Scientific Reports, PLoS ONE, PLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases, Parasites & Vectors, Malaria Journal, Transactions of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, BMC Medicine, Pathogens and Global Health, and Tropical Biomedicine. show more »Marlenny Deenerwan, holds a doctorate degree in Theatre Performance from Monash University, Australia (2016), Master of Arts (2011) and a Bachelor of Performing Arts in Drama (2007) from the Universiti Malaya, and received a Diploma of Creative Writing of the National Arts Academy currently known as ASWARA (2002). Prior to entering academia, she served as a teacher at SM Shan Tao Kota Kinabalu Sabah (1995-1997) and also was a sub-editor at Daily Express Sabah (1997-1998). As an academic, her research spans the field of Malaysian traditional and rituals theatre; Bobolian rituals in Sabah, the traditional theater of Wayang Kulit, Makyong, and Bangsawan, research on the Minang community in Kuala Lumpur and the Kaul event of the Melanau community in Mukah. Her recent research focusing on developing interactive theater as an alternative to teaching and learning for young children in rural areas by conducting a field work at SK Pekan Ranau, Sabah. An active creative writer since 1999, Marlenny has published over 20 scripts of modern stage dramas and adaptations (Nur, Dari M ke M, Rumah Lama Kampung Baru, Melati & Melur, YB Jee, Lina & Lijah, No Smoking Please etc), dozens television dramas since 2003 (Haryati II, Dilema Wanita, Kasihnya Di Bawah Bayu, Igauan Semalam etc), besides also contributing to documentary writing, tv promos, newspaper articles/ criticism, short stories, poems, and song lyrics. She has also been prolific in producing Bangsawan scripts since 2007 to date.She involves actively as an actor, director, and stage drama producer since 1998. Her play directing works including Rumah Lama Kampung Baru, Melati & Melur, No Smoking Please, Rachel Corrie, The Glass Menageries, The Zoo Story, Bangsawan Anak Raja Anak Papa (The Prince and The Pauper), Zhao Si Anak Yatim, Asiah Samiah and Bangsawan Hikayat Si Miskin Menjadi Raja. She is the co-founder of the theatre group Mekar Budaya since 2002 as well as the Bangsawan Opera Sri Bandaraya group under the organization of the Kuala Lumpur City Hall since 2008. She won the Best Actress award at the Malaysian Theater Festival 2003, Best Director of the Kuala Lumpur Theater Festival 2009, and was the recipient of the Young Theater Artist Award from the Selangor State Government in 2010. She was appointed as the Head of Jury of the Malaysian Theater Festival 2016 by the National Department for Culture and Arts, and served as the Head of Jury for Universiti Malaya's Theatre Carnival (Kaviter UM) since 2017-2020.Marlenny has published a book entitled "Bobolian Seni Teater Etnik Dusun", and is currently in the process of producing a book entitled "Tertib dan Masyhur: Estetika Bangsawan Malaysia". Throughout her activities with NGOs, Marlenny was the former President of the ASWARA Alumni Association 2015-2018, and is currently the Chairperson of the Persatuan Rumpun Seni Mekar Budaya Kuala Lumpur (since 2020), besides maintaining her membership with Ikatan Penulis Sabah since 1992.
