Rizawati Ramli graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the University of Malaya in 2003. Until 2012, she worked in various specialties in the hospital. During this period, she obtained a master’s degree in Family Medicine, Malaysia after which she worked as Family Medicine Specialist in several Ministry of Health (MOH) public primary care clinics. She has vast experience working closely with the community across various ethnicity and different socioeconomic statuses including indigenous and marginalised people in East Malaysia. In 2015, she received a ‘Letter of Appreciation from National Population Fund (UNFPA), United Nation’ for the Maternal and Child Health service she oversaw in districts of Sabah. Non-communicable diseases, thalassemia screening programmes and children with special needs were areas she spent much in while working in primary care MOH. In 2019 she contributed to the writing of the National Health and Morbidity Survey (NHMS) report for Diabetes, Hypertension and Hypercholesterolemia. She also had an opportunity to be part of the medical team for the Malaysia Hajj Operation in 2014 and 2019 as a medical officer. During her service with MOH, she received Distinction in Service Award twice in 2007 and 2014. Besides her commitment to taking care of community health, she also has a passion for sharing her knowledge and experience with the younger generation of doctors and future doctors. She was appointed as an honorary lecturer for MBBS academic session 2018/2019, International Medical School (IMS), Management and Science University (MSU) Shah Alam Campus, trainer of Malaysia-Ireland Post-graduate training in Family Medicine (MInTFM) and supervisor for the Master of Family Medicine post-graduate student. She also has an interest in doing research which has driven her collaboration with the academic universities including Universiti Malaya to conduct a few studies. With her vast experience as a family medicine specialist working on the ground and her interest in clinical teaching and academic research, she decided to join Universiti Malaya as an academic in 2020. Currently, besides her core works as a clinical lecturer and family medicine specialist, she is also part of the post-graduate committee for the Master of Family Medicine, Universiti Malaya, and co-leading of NIHR funded research projects in asthma. Moving on, she plans to venture into implementation science in non communicable diseases including cardiovascular and respiratory diseases.
show more »Graduate of University College Dublin (National University Ireland) in 2005, she obtained Intercollegiate MRCS 2008 and completed Irish Basic Surgical Training (CCBST) in Royal College of Surgeons Ireland 2009. Upon returning to Malaysia, she completed Master of Surgery in University of Malaya 2013, whilst serving as trainee lecturer to University Malaya Medical Programme. Upon appointment as specialist 2014, she continues as Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon and is an examiner for both undergraduate medical programme and Postgraduate Master of Surgery, National Conjoint Board Exams. She is also the Surgical Co-ordinator and Examiner for Dental Faculty, Universiti Malaya. She sub-specialised in Colorectal Surgery, training in UM, UKM and Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Sydney and is currently the Head of Colorectal Surgery Unit, Department of Surgery UM. She is also Committee Member and National Trainer for National Colorectal Surgery Fellowship Programme. She is actively involved in national and international surgical training, where she serves as Co-Director of CCrISP Course with College of Surgeons Malaysia and Royal College of Sugeons England and is a NOTSS Course Instructor with Royal College Of Surgeons Edinburgh. She is the local UM liason for co-ordination of RCS England MRCS examinations. She has a keen interest in advanced colorectal cancer surgery including Pelvic Exenteration, Cytoreductive Surgery and HIPEC as well as PIPAC and is Malaysian representative in PelvEx Collaborative. She has helped set up and continue the multidisciplinary, multicentre teamwork for extended resections in advanced GI malignancy in Universiti Malaya and in the country.

Teaching Malay language education and early childhood education program, Presented approximately 160 working papers international and international seminars and conferences in Malaysia and foreign countries include United States of America, United Kingdom, France, Switzerland, Greece, Japan, South Korea, China, Taiwan, Singapore, Thailand, Philippine and Indonesia. Published 5 books, 101 articles published in journals, 67 papers in conference proceedings, 36 chapters in books, 20 translated books including creative writings, 10 edited books and creative writings. She is the book editor of Taylor & Francis, editor for local Year 4, 5 and 6 History textbook and Year 1 Arts and Music Education text book. Completed 19 research projects which 8 of them were led by Chew. She won many medals in academy and innovative expo. UM Outstanding Service Award (2008), being listed in Marquis Who's Who in the World 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2018; 2000 Intellectual in the World for 21st Century Year 2011. Chew is article reviewer for some established international journals, namely Asia-Pacific Education Researcher, Asia Pacific Journal of Education, SAGE Open, International Journal of English & Literature (IJEL), British Journal of Medicine and Medical Research, British Journal of Education, Society and Behavioral Science (BJESBS), International Journal of Psychology and Counselling (IJPC), Educational Research and Reviews (ERR) and African Journal of Pharmacy and Pharmacology (AJPP) besides some local estalished journals included Pertanika: Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities, GEMA Online and Kemanusiaan,. Besides that, Chew recites Malay poem invited at state and national level. Chew was invited as visiting professor at Peking University from October, 2011 to June, 2012 during her sabbatical leave. Chew won the “The World Outstanding Researcher” award (2013).
