Biography | |
Mohd Roslan Mohd Nor is Professor at the Dept of Islamic History and Civilization, Academy of Islamic Studies, University of Malaya, Malaysia. He is currently the department's head, serving from April 2020 until now, and previously from 2009 to 2012. He was the Deputy Director (Research & Development) at the Academy of Islamic Studies from 1 July 2012 to 20 January 2019. Dr. Roslan’s broad academic interests involve Islamicjerusalem Studies, the Middle East, Islam and multi-culturalism, Muslim affairs, religious studies and civilization. Dr. Roslan supervises postgraduate students, many of whom have received their master's and doctoral degrees from this university. He has been appointed as external examiner from several universities, within and outside the country. Dr. Roslan participated in the Study of the United States Institute on Religious Pluralism, University of California Santa Barbara (2010), and has been a Visiting Scholar at different institutions such as Al-Maktoum Institute, Scotland (2009) and Minzu University, Beijing (2012-2013). In early 2020, he was appointed as honorary academic member of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Kazakhstan and delivered an online course for a complete semester that end in April 2020. Dr. Roslan has been invited to participate in international conferences as invited speaker in several universities, locally and internationally. He has a number of scholarly articles published in worldwide refereed and indexed journals (Web of Science and Scopus), and continues to be engaged actively in research. He was a recipient of 2018 MAPIM-KPT (then Ministry of Higher Education) award for book published in Social Sciences category. He also received a prestigious award Anugerah Akademik Negara (AAN) 2018 for book category. The book which he received the award entitled: The Significance of Islamicjerusalem in Islam, published in 2017 by Univ of Malaya Press. His latest book has been published recently by UM Press in 2020 entitled: Konflik Gaza dan Misi Kemanusiaan Freedom Flotilla (Gaza Conflict and Humanitarian Mission of Freedom Flotilla). Recently, he has been appointed as a Member of Federal Territory Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) for the period of 2021-2024. He is committed in community service and has served as Nazir (Chairman) of Masjid al-Mukarramah in Kuala Lumpur since 2012-now. |
