Dr. Mohd Zaidi Daud is an Associate Professor in the Department of Syariah and Law at the Academy of Islamic Studies, University of Malaya (UM), where he served as Head of the Department from 2019 to 2025. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Syariah (Islamic Law) with Honours, as well as a Master’s and a PhD in Syariah and Law, all from the University of Malaya. Dr. Mohd Zaidi Daud specializes in Islamic Estate Planning—covering Hibah, Wakaf, Islamic Inheritance, and Islamic Wills—as well as Islamic Banking and Finance, Islamic Social Finance, and Contemporary Islamic Law. Currently, he is the Principal Investigator for a project titled "Management of Islamic Trust Assets at the Baitulmal," funded by the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (GA022-2024), running from September 23, 2024, to March 23, 2025. Dr. Mohd Zaidi Daud is also collaborating internationally with UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang on the project "Religious Moderation in Higher Education in Indonesia and Malaysia." Previously, he led a Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education-funded project titled "Individual Behaviour in Dealing with Property Distribution Issues: A Study of Muslim Estate Planning" (FP017-2020) under the Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS). He has also collaborated on various research initiatives, including projects on Islamic Inheritance Management, Islamic Law Practice in Malaysia, Wakaf financing for higher education, and the role of Muslim women’s NGOs in promoting gender equality in ASEAN. Dr. Mohd Zaidi Daud is an active speaker at national and international conferences. Recent notable presentations include "Legal Frameworks in Islamic Social Finance for Promoting Social Welfare in Malaysia: Aligning with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)" at the International Conference on Law & Justice, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah in Jakarta (September 27, 2024); "Zakat as Islamic Philanthropy in Malaysia: An Overview from a Legal Perspective" at Karabuk University, Turkey (September 29, 2022); and "Legal Aspects and Management of Islamic Philanthropy in Malaysia" at Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (July 25, 2022). He has also recently presented in Vienna, Austria; Malang and Jakarta, Indonesia; and Pattani, Thailand (2024). Previous years included presentations in Salzburg (Austria), Barcelona (Spain), as well as Palembang and Bandung, Indonesia (2023 and 2022, respectively). Beyond teaching and research, Dr. Mohd Zaidi Daud served as a Visiting Scholar at the Center for the Study of the Middle East and Muslim Civilizations, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (August to December 2013), and completed a three-month research fellowship at Cairo University's Kuliyyah Darul Ulum (May to August 2010). His extensive publication record includes articles in national and international journals, contributing significantly to the field of Islamic law. Throughout his career, he has offered expertise to institutions such as JAKIM and MAIS on Islamic law issues and previously served as the Shariah Adviser for ZICOlaw Shariah, providing advisory services to Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation Malaysia Berhad from 2014 to 2016.
show more »Rosmadi Fauzi is a Professor at the Department of Geography, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur. He obtained a Degree in Social Sciences (Political Science) in 1998, Master of Science (M. Sc.) in 1999 and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in 2008 from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Pulau Pinang. He serves as a lecturer since 2004 and was promoted to an Associate Professor in 2014 and became a Professor in 2022. He was the Deputy Dean of Research and Development at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, from 2017 to 2020. Prior to that, he served as the Head of Geography Department from 2015 to 2017. Rosmadi Fauzi is an associate member of National Antarctic Research Centre. In 2008, under the Malaysian Antarctic Research Program (MARP) collaboration with Institute of Antarctica of Ecuador (INAE), Rosmadi Fauzi has joined the scientific expedition journey to the continent of Antarctica with other 22 South American Antarctic researchers to explore the mysteries of the continent. He has successfully carried out his scientific expedition and held a talk at the Scientific Antarctica Expedition Symposium at The State University Santa Elena Peninsula in Ecuador, South America. He has also been invited as a special guest and GIS experts for technical meeting, workshop and visit to INAE by the Institute of Antarctica of Ecuador (INAE) and has attended the 4th Latin American Symposium and 7th Chilean Meeting on Antarctic Research in ValparaÍso, Chile. He is also a member of UM Centre of Election and Democracy (UMCEDEL) where he is actively contributing his expertise in GIS to the center’s strategic researches on the nation’s social, electoral and political subjects. Rosmadi Fauzi broad academic interests involve Geographical Information System, Spatial Politics and Electoral, Social Geography and Spatial Social Sciences. He has collaborated with local and international researchers and produced more than 170 publications including in Web of Science (WOS) and Scopus Journals, books, chapters, conferences papers, technical reports and newspapers. He has been appointed as manuscript assessor, external examiner for thesis to several universities both locally and internationally. He was also Chief Editor for Malaysian Journal Tropical Geography (MJTG) and was appointed as reviewer for several international journals. Rosmadi Fauzi was also an evaluator for the Malaysia Ministry of Science Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) Research Grant Scheme (2012-2015) and a committee member for the Malaysian Ministry of Education Research Grant Scheme (2019-2020). As an active researcher and the principal investigator in a number of research projects, Rosmadi Fauzi has worked on GIS application, spatial model of voting, people’s perception and social impacts studies in Malaysia. The research work has been funded by local and international research grant such as Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS), Impact Oriented Interdisciplinary Research Grant (IIRG), University of Malaya Research Grant (UMRG), Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) Top-down Research Grant, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) grant and others, with cumulative research funding in excess of RM 2.2 million to date. He is also actively involved as a project consultant in numerous GIS Mapping research projects. His highest achievement was producing the first Malaysian National Atlas, a consultant project under Department of Survey and Mapping Malaysia (JUPEM), Ministry of Water, Land and Natural Resources. His other notable consultation works include GIS and BIG Data Project for FGV Prodata Systems, the IT arm of FELDA Group of Companies; Environment Sensitivity Index Mapping for one of the world largest oil and gas companies, Shell Berhad as well as reviewer for Malaysian General Election Atlas and Electoral Research Project of the 13th,14th and 15th General Election for Malaysia’s pay television news channel Astro AWANI, and more. Rosmadi Fauzi is also actively involved in contribution to society. He is the President of The Parent Teacher Association (PIBG) of Sekolah Kebangsaan Seri Langat, Banting and the Vice Chairman of Masjid as Syariff Telok Datok, Banting. show more »Dr Sheena Kaur graduated with a doctoral degree in Applied Linguistics from Lancaster University, U.K. An alumnus of Universiti Malaya (U.M.), Malaysia's leading university, she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (English Literature), Diploma in Education (TESL) and Master of English as a Second Language (M.ESL). She is an Associate Professor at the Department of English Language, Faculty of Languages and Linguistics, U.M. She was formerly Head of Strategic Global Alliances Division at the International Relations Centre (IRC), Universiti Malaya from 15 March 2023 to 15 March 2024. She has also held several other administrative positions in her career at the university, most recently as the Deputy Dean of Postgraduate Studies (1 Sept 2020 - 1st Sept 2022) at the Faculty of Languages and Linguistics, U.M., the Deputy Director of the International Relations Office, U.M. (1st August 2017-31st July 2019), the Head of the Language Unit (17 th Nov 2014-31st July 2016), Faculty of Languages and Linguistics, where she was involved in curriculum planning and design of various English courses for local and international undergraduates. From 2010-2012, she was the Head of the Multimedia Planning Unit at the faculty and was a member of the university's e-learning committee. She is also currently involved in several task force committees under the university's Transformation Plan. Sheena has taught several courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Her research interests include applied linguistics, sociolinguistics, corpus linguistics, and digital humanities. She is a reviewer for several journals including Psychological Trauma: Theory, Research, Practice and Policy; Pertanika (UPM); Journal of Modern Languages (UM), Gema Online Journal of Language Studies (UKM) and SEARCH (Taylor's College). She is actively involved in community work, and was the coordinator for the faculty's Community Engagement course during its inception, as well as being a member of the university's advisory board for the course. She led the faculty's first community project for the Community Engagement course with the Semai community at Pos Pantos, Kuala Lipis, Pahang, involving first year undergraduates. Sheena has recently been awarded the US-ASEAN Fulbright Award for 2024/2025 where she is hosted by Prof Vasti Torres, at Indiana University Bloomington, Indiana, USA. Her research project on women leadership in higher education compares the challenges of women leaders in higher academic contexts in the US and Malaysia.
