PROF. DR. CHAI WEN LIN

  Associate Professor Dr Chai Wen Lin BDS (Malaya), MDSc (Malaya), FDSRCS (England), PhD (Sheffield) Associate Professor Dr Chai Wen Lin graduated from University of Malaya in 1994. She joined Ministry of Health as a dental officer in Ipoh. She then pursued her specialist training and obtained her Fellowship from Royal College of Surgeons of England (FDSRCS) in 1998. With her interest in teaching, she returned to her alma matter to be a lecturer till now. Throughout her tenure as a lecturer, she never stops learning; she started her research journey since then and finally obtained her Master in Dental Science in 2005 and PhD in 2010. She has had experienced in various area of researches, such as endodontic, implant-soft tissue interface and qualitative study. The study topics include the morphology of C-shaped canal, the antimicrobial efficacy of intracanal medicaments in Enterococcus faecalis biofilm, development of an in-vitro tissue-engineered oral mucosal model for the investigation of implant-soft tissue interface and more recently, a qualitative study on patients’ perception. Her researches have brought her multiple local and international awards. She has published numerous articles in local and foreign journals, not only pertaining to her research topics but also on various aspects of dentistry.

PROF. DR. MOHD YAMANI IDNA BIN IDRIS

Prof. Dr. Mohd Yamani Idna Idris has been a dedicated faculty member at Universiti Malaya since 2000, contributing significantly to education, research, and innovation. With interest and expertise in Internet of Things (IoT), image processing, computer vision, and pattern recognition, his scholarly work has enriched both academic knowledge and practical applications. His extensive experience in teaching, learning, and research has influenced countless learners, and his research is widely published in reputed journals. As a mentor, he has successfully supervised 25 Ph.D. candidates, providing invaluable emotional and motivational support to ensure their success. His expertise is also sought after in academic circles, where he serves as a reviewer and editorial board member for journals like MJCS, Pattern Recognition, and IEEE Transactions on ITS. Additionally, he has been an external examiner for Ph.D. candidates and has contributed to international technical review panels. Beyond his research contributions, Dr. Idris has held key faculty leadership positions, including Head of Department and Deputy Dean (Undergraduate (acting) and Research & Development), playing a vital role in shaping academic direction and fostering innovation. He also has experience as the Industrial Training Coordinator, where he bridges the gap between academia and industry, providing students with valuable real-world insights. His contributions also extend to national progress, as he has actively participated in digitalization initiatives for government agencies like KPDNHEP and MATRADE. Recognizing the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration, he has pioneered research efforts that integrate computer science with other fields, driving innovative solutions. Dr. Idris’s unwavering dedication has earned him three Certificates of Excellent Service and three Excellence Service Awards, highlighting his outstanding contributions to academia. His impact is further recognized internationally, having been listed among Stanford’s Top 2% Scientists in 2024. Through his leadership, mentorship, and groundbreaking research, Dr. Idris continues to shape academic excellence, industry collaboration, and scientific progress.

PROFESSOR DATO' IR. DR. MOHD HAMDI BIN ABD SHUKOR

Professor Dato’ Ir. Dr. Mohd. Hamdi Abd. Shukor received his Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) with Honours from Imperial College, London, England; a Master of Science degree in Advanced Manufacturing and Management Technology from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology, United Kingdom; and a Doctor of Engineering degree from Kyoto University, Japan. His academic career commenced in 1995 in Universiti Malaya (UM) as a tutor and he later became a lecturer in the Department of Engineering Design and Manufacture in 1997. He was then appointed as the Head, Department of Engineering Design and Manufacture (2003-2006). He was promoted to Associate Professor in 2006 and then served as a full Professor (Professor C) in 2010. He was promoted to a Senior Professor (Professor B) in 2014 and in 2019 as Senior Professor (Professor A). In 2021, he was promoted to the distinguised post of Senior Professor Turus III.   Prof Hamdi was the former Dean, Faculty of Engineering, (2009-2011) and the former UM Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International) (2011-2013). He was appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia in Jan 2019 and in November 2020, he assumed the role of leading Universiti Malaya as the 13th Vice-Chancellor until Oct 2023. At the national level, he hold top leadership positions of great repute including as Chairman of the Public Universities Rectors/Vice-Chancellors Committee; Chairman of the Engineering Accreditation Council (EAC), Board Member of the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) and Council Member of the Institute of Engineers Malaysia (IEM). He was a Visiting Professor at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in 2015-2016. He was appointed as the Executive President of Asian Universities Alliance (AUA) from 2021-2022 and was a Steering Committee Member of Asia Pacific Rims Universities (APRU) 2022-2023. He is currently a Council Member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) 2022-2025 and the Administrative Board Member of the International Association of Universities (IAU) 2022-2026. He is also being appointed a member of the Board of Trustee of The University of Sarjah, UAE (2023-2025). In addition to producing more than 220 impactful publications in journals indexed by the Web of Science, he also has recorded a WoS h-index of 43 with total citation of over 7,571. In recognition of his outstanding service and contribution, Dato' Mohd. Hamdi was conferred the Darjah Johan Mangku Negara (J.M.N.) by KDYMM Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong in 2019 and also Darjah Dato’ Paduka Negeri Sembilan (D.P.N.S.), which carries the title of Dato' by DYMM Yang di-Pertuan Besar Negeri Sembilan in 2020.                                                                                                   ---------------------------
