Dr. Mohd Rizal Muwazir is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Shariah and Management, Academy of Islamic Studies, Universiti Malaya. He obtained his Ph.D. in 2012 from Cardiff Business School, United Kingdom, and also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Social Science Research Methods from Cardiff University (2007). He completed his Bachelor in Shariah (Shariah & Management) (2003) and Master of Business Administration (Accounting) (2006) at Universiti Malaya. Dr. Mohd Rizal’s research interests lie in the areas of Islamic banking and finance, Islamic corporate governance, Shariah auditing, CSR, and financial sustainability. He currently serves as a Shariah Committee Member at OCBC Al-Amin Bank Berhad (since 2023) and Great Eastern Takaful Berhad (since 2025). Additionally, he is affiliated as a research team member with the Gulf One Lab for Computational and Economic Research (GOLCER) at Lancaster University Management School, United Kingdom. In addition to his academic and professional roles, Dr. Mohd Rizal serves on the editorial boards of several local and international journals, including the Online Journal of Islamic Management and Finance (Universiti Malaya), Jurnal Kinabalu (Universiti Malaysia Sabah), and El Muhasaba: Jurnal Akuntansi (Indonesia). He is also a certified Halal Executive, accredited by the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM).

Dr. Nurshamimi was awarded a Malaysia-Imperial Doctoral Programme to study HPV regulation at the Department of Virology, St. Mary’s Campus, Imperial College London, upon graduating with an M.Med.Sc from the University of Malaya in 2008. She joined the Department of Molecular Medicine as a Senior Lecturer in 2014 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2021. She was a three-time travel award winner for attending HKU-Pasteur workshops at the University of Hong Kong. She also received travel awards from the International Papillomavirus Society in 2017 for the HPV conference in South Africa and a travel award from the EMBL Advanced Training Centre Corporate Partnership Program Fellowship in 2015 for the EMBO Conference in Heidelberg, Germany. She is also a member of the European Association for Cancer Research (EACR) and the European Society for Virology. In 2020, she won the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Young Investigator Award for her work on the Chikungunya virus, and in 2022, she received a travel award from Keystone Symposia, Global Health Travel Award, USA. In 2024, she was selected by Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, USA, to present her work entitled "Morindone from Morinda citrifolia—A promising agent targeting DNA replication and key mutations in colorectal cancer" at their conference 'Mechanisms and Models of Cancer'. Dr. Nurshamimi also holds several patents in the field of anti-aging and colorectal cancer. Her current research is geared toward phase 1 clinical trials for diabetic foot ulcer treatment and investigating potential leads for colorectal cancer targets. She is an Ambassador for Bentham Science Publisher, one of the most renowned ISI publishers in the world. Currently, she is a principal investigator for research projects on colorectal cancer, Zika and dengue viruses, anti-aging, and diabetic foot ulcers.

Graduate of University College Dublin (National University Ireland) in 2005, she obtained Intercollegiate MRCS 2008 and completed Irish Basic Surgical Training (CCBST) in Royal College of Surgeons Ireland 2009. Upon returning to Malaysia, she completed Master of Surgery in University of Malaya 2013, whilst serving as trainee lecturer to University Malaya Medical Programme.  Upon appointment as specialist 2014, she continues as Consultant  General and Colorectal Surgeon and is an examiner for both undergraduate medical programme and Postgraduate Master of Surgery, National Conjoint Board Exams. She is also the Surgical Co-ordinator and Examiner for Dental Faculty, Universiti Malaya. She sub-specialised in Colorectal Surgery, training in UM, UKM and Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Sydney and is currently the Head of Colorectal Surgery Unit, Department of Surgery UM. She is also Committee Member and National Trainer for National Colorectal Surgery Fellowship Programme. She is actively involved in national and international surgical training, where she serves as Co-Director of CCrISP Course with College of Surgeons Malaysia and Royal College of Sugeons England and is a NOTSS Course Instructor with Royal College Of Surgeons Edinburgh. She is the local UM liason for co-ordination of RCS England MRCS examinations. She has a keen interest in advanced colorectal cancer surgery including Pelvic Exenteration, Cytoreductive Surgery and HIPEC as well as PIPAC and is Malaysian representative in PelvEx Collaborative. She has helped set up and continue the multidisciplinary, multicentre teamwork for extended resections in advanced GI malignancy in Universiti Malaya and in the country.
