I am a full time Professor at the Department of Anatomy, Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya. I received PhD from the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom in the field of Neuroscience. I am a trained Human Anatomist and have been teaching Gross and Clinical Anatomy to hundreds of undergraduate Medical (MBBS Year 1 & 2 ), Dental (BDS Year 1), and postgraduate surgical students (Master of Surgery & Master of ENT) and Dental postgraduates (MClintDent) for more than 30 years. I have wide experience in teaching Human Anatomy using human cadavers, plastinated specimens, models, online and hybrid methods. My main area of research is neural regeneration focusing on axonal mechanisms and extracellular matrix molecules related to regeneration processes in both the peripheral and central nervous systems. My research group is also involved in exploring natural products that can improve neural regeneration, and those which can enhance learning and memory. My other research interests include Cognitive Neuroscience aspects of Anatomical Education focusing in Cognitive Loads, Clinical Anatomy and Dental Implants. I have presented our work at many local and international conferences and published in many international indexed peer-reviewed journals. I have served as a reviewer for numerous journals and supervised many Master and PhD students. In addition, on the administration side I have served as the Head, Department of Anatomy over many years at Faculty of Medicine,University of Malaya. He observed that while companies aim to innovate sustainably, many struggle to advance R&D without the right research partners. If this felt like you, this is where he can help. His current work focuses on developing functionalised, micro- and mesoporous materials such as zeolites, activated carbon and metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) for water and gas purification. Specifically: (1) For water treatment: removal of trace, harmful organic pollutants like poly- and perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), endocrine disrupting compounds and microplastics. (2) For gas purification and separation: capture of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), moisture (water) or filtration of other hazardous industry gases (CO, CO2, H2S, SOx, NOx). See an example of news coverage on his past PhD project. In particular, MOF materials also hold great potential in improving catalytic reactions and process efficiency; an area which he plans to venture next. He welcomes any collaboration opportunities either from the industry or other academic institutions to help solve the technical challenges together.
