DR. HUZAINA BINTI ABDUL HALIM

Dr Huzaina is a senior lecturer in the Department of Language and Literacy Education, Faculty of Education. Her scholastic trajectory exemplifies her unshakable dedication, as she earned her PhD in a prestigious university, Imperial College London in 2016. Dr Huzaina expertise encompasses pivotal areas in second and foreign language pedagogy, advancing academic writing and the core language skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing), as well as implementing 21st-century learning strategies to promote literacy and effective communication. Her robust foundation in critical thinking and creativity in ESL curriculum underscores her capacity as a researcher and mentor, empowering her students to engage in meaningful exploration and innovation. Dr. Huzaina interdisciplinary approach, fueled by her versatile knowledge, intellectual curiosity, and adaptability, bridges diverse academic fields, enriching the educational research landscape. She is also actively involved in theatre production with her literature students and has produced several remarkable performances.

She currently serves as a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Nursing Science, University of Malaya, and is nationally and internationally recognized for her expertise in patient safety, infection control, nutrition support therapy, and oncology nursing. She holds a PhD in Hospital Quality Management (Patient Safety) from the University of Malaya and has advanced qualifications in oncology nursing and healthcare management. She also served as Coordinator in the Quality Department at University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) for over three years, where she led initiatives in clinical governance, patient safety, and healthcare quality improvement. Her areas of expertise include Continuous Quality Improvement, Clinical Risk Management, and Patient Safety. She received formal training as a Comprehensive Unit-based Safety Program (CUSP) trainer from Johns Hopkins Hospital and the Armstrong Institute for Patient Safety and Quality, Johns Hopkins Medicine. Throughout her career, Dr. Karthikayini has held progressive leadership roles in nursing—from front-line clinical care to senior hospital administration—across a wide range of specialties including general surgery, neurosurgery, vascular surgery, burns and plastic, cardiothoracic, oncology, psychiatry, general medicine, hematology, neurology, ENT, orthopedics, and pediatrics. She contributed to the development of in-house electronic medical record (EMR) systems at UMMC, including modules for the National Early Warning Score (NEWS), fall prevention, delirium assessment, and a House Officer Dashboard System. A dedicated educator and mentor, Dr. Karthikayini is actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate nursing education. She has delivered keynote addresses and lectures at numerous national and international conferences, and has facilitated professional development workshops on patient safety, clinical nutrition, and falls prevention. Her research focuses on patient safety culture, fall prevention, medication safety in older adults, and interprofessional collaboration. She has published in peer-reviewed journals such as Age and Ageing, International Journal of Clinical Practice, and Disaster Medicine and Public Health Preparedness. Dr. Karthikayini has received multiple accolades, including the Venus International Award for Excellence in Oncology Nursing, UMMC Excellence Service Awards, and recognition for her leadership in quality improvement, both locally and internationally. She is a registered member of the Nursing Board of Malaysia, a life member of the Malaysian Nurses Association, and a committee member of the Malaysian Society for Quality in Health (MSQH) focusing on patient safety (research and training). With a steadfast commitment to advancing nursing practice and strengthening healthcare systems, Dr. Karthikayini continues to lead transformative initiatives to improve patient care and clinical outcomes in Malaysia and beyond.

DR. EFFARIZA BINTI HANAFI

Effariza Hanafi received the B.Eng. in Telecommunications (first class honours) from the University of Adelaide, Adelaide, S.A., Australia, and the Ph.D. degree in electrical and electronic engineering from the University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand, in 2010 and 2014, respectively. She joined the Universiti Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where she is now a Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Engineering. She is actively involved in research as a principal investigator and has secured research grants from Fundamental Research Grants Scheme (MOE, Malaysia) and internal research grants in Universiti Malaya. She has published more than 40 journal papers in ISI-indexed publications and refereed conference papers. She is an active reviewer for numerous high-quality journals such as IEEE Transactions on Communications, IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications, IEEE Access and several international conferences such as IEEE Global Communications Conference.   She is currently a Senior Member for IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers). She was the recipient of the MARA Scholarship for undergraduate study, and the Codan Achievement Prize in 2010. She was also the recipient of Scholarship from the Ministry of Higher Education and University of Malaya, Malaysia for her doctoral studies, and the best student poster presentation at the Australian Communications Theory Workshop (AusCTW) 2013. In 2015, she was the recipient of the University of Malaya Excellence Awards. She was an awardee for financial support from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for AUN/SEED-Net Regional Conference on Computer and Information Engineering (RCCIE) 2018.   Her main research interests span widely across the area of Internet of Things (system integration, smart system), wireless communication (5G networks, channel characterization, cooperative and distributed communications, non-orthogonal multiple access), RF technologies (PCB fabrication, UHF RFID tag antenna) and optical communications (fiber laser and sensor).
