Prof. Datin Ir Dr Bushroa is an accomplished educator and researcher with over 20 years of teaching experience across Surface Engineering, Manufacturing Processes, Communication and Critical Thinking, Mechatronics, Electrical and Electronic Engineering. She earned her B.Eng. (Hons) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST), UK, in 1997. She completed her Master of Engineering Science at Universiti Malaya (UM) in 2004, undertaking collaborative research with Kyoto Institute of Technology, Japan, and obtained her PhD from UM, Malaysia in 2012. She pursued post-doctoral research at UCLA, USA under a prestigious scholarship from the Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education. A Chartered Engineer and member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) since 2011, she is also a Professional Engineer registered with the Board of Engineers Malaysia since 2016. She has held leadership roles as Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and previously served as President of SUKMANITA at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. As an active member of the Centre of Advanced Manufacturing and Material Processing (AMMP), she has led the group for several years. Her research achievements include numerous registered Intellectual Property Rights, notably a unique magnetron sputtering system utilizing powder mixtures. Her core expertise lies in Surface Engineering; developing and optimizing thin films and coatings of nitrides, carbides, ceramics, metals, and rare earth materials for diverse applications. She also specializes in designing plasma-based systems, including innovative powder magnetron sputtering, cold plasma for water pathogen treatment, and plasma electrolytic oxidation. Integrating emerging technologies, she explores applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for manufacturing process optimization, sustainability, and cultural heritage preservation. With over 100 publications and an H-index exceeding 30, she has received multiple awards, medals, and significant research funding as evidence of her commitment to impactful education and innovative research on national and international stages. show more »Ida HILMI is a Professor and Senior Consultant in Gastroenterology, University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Prof Ida Hilmi graduated with first class honours from the University of Glasgow in 1997. She went on to do her training in internal medicine in Oxford and obtained her Membership of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom (MRCP) in 2000. She then joined the Northeast London Gastroenterology and Hepatology specialist program before returning to Malaysia in 2003. She is the current Chair of the National Gastroenterology and Hepatology Training Committee as well as the President for the Malaysian Society of Gastroenterology and Hepatology (MSGH) and the President for the Malaysian Society for Inflammatory Bowel Disease (MyIBD). Her other positions include Honorary Secretary for the Asian Education Network in IBD (IBD-AEN), Board member of the Asian Organization for Crohn’s and Colitis (AOCC); council member as well as member for the Women and Leadership in GI Taskforce for the Asian Pacific Association of Gastroenterology (APAGE), the South East Asian representative for the European Crohn's and Colitis Organisation (ECCO) Global Taskforce, member of the Asian EUS group (AEG) and the Malaysian lead for the IBD Emerging Nations Consortium (IBD-ENC). Her past positions include Head of the Department of Medicine, Head of Division in Gastroenterology and Hepatology and Director of Endoscopy in University of Malaya. She is part the National Colorectal Cancer Taskforce and is a trustee for the Journal of Hepatology and Gastroenterology Foundation (JGHF) which is involved in medical research, education and training in gastroenterology and hepatology within the Asia-Pacific region. Professor Ida Hilmi’s principal area of research is the epidemiology of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in emerging nations which includes a recent landmark study looking at the global evolution of IBD published in Nature.
show more »Dr Rama is a Public Health Medicine Specialist and Occupational Health Physician with experience in the field of occupational health and occupational medicine. He has provided essential occupational health services to various job sectors while serving under the Department of Occupational Safety (DOSH) before pursuing postgraduate studies. He completed his training under the Faculty of Occupational Medicine - Royal College of Physicians Ireland (RCPI) and obtained the Licentiateship of Faculty of Occupational Medicine (LFOM) in 2015. Following that he completed his Master of Public Health (MPH) with distinction and Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) at University of Malaya in 2019. His thesis was titled “Development and evaluation of a hearing conservation programme (HCP) among vector control workers”. After graduating, he returned to serve the Ministry of Health under the Selangor State Health Department and subsequently joined the Occupational and Environmental Health Sector in Putrajaya. Currently he is medical lecturer and occupational health physician at the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine. His area of interest and expertise mainly includes risk assessment at workplaces, conducting medical surveillance and implementation of occupational disease prevention programs at workplace. He is also a Good Clinical Practice (GCP) certified researcher with research interest in strategies to prevent noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) including hearing conservation programs.
