Prof. Datin Ir. Dr. Bushroa started her career in 2004 as an academician at the Department of Engineering Design and Manufacture, Universiti Malaya (UM). In the following years, she became a senior lecturer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, UM. She earned her B.Eng. (Hons) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST), UK, in 1997, and subsequently obtained her Master of Engineering Science and PhD from Universiti Malaya in 2004 and 2012, respectively. She previously served as the Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering from 2020 to 2021. Currently, she is the head of the Centre of Advanced Manufacturing and Material Processing (AMMP), a role she has held for nearly over the three consecutive years. She has been a Chartered Engineer with the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), UK, since 2011. In 2015, she pursued her post-doctoral research program at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), USA, under a prestigious scholarship awarded by the Ministry of Higher Education, Malaysia. Shortly thereafter, in mid-2016, she was promoted to Associate Professor. In the same year, she was honoured with Professional Engineer status by the Board of Engineers Malaysia. Her primary expertise is in Surface Engineering, where she became a full professor in 2022. Her research focuses on developing thin films and coating layers to optimize and enhance material properties for various applications. She also applies her expertise to the design of systems using plasma-based technologies, such as novel powder magnetron sputtering, cold plasma for water-pathogen treatment, and plasma electrolytic oxidation setups. In addition to her engineering research, she is passionate about preserving cultural heritage and is involved in projects employing computer vision and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to analyze artifacts collected from museums. Prof. Bushroa has authored and co-authored more than 100 publications, with an H-index exceeding 30. Over the years, she has received numerous awards and medals and secured significant local and international research fundings. These achievements reflect her dedication to impactful education and research at both the national and global levels.
