DR. LOTT POOI WAH

    Dr Penny Lott Pooi Wah is a consultant ophthalmologist and medical lecturer in the Department of Ophthalmology, University of Malaya. She completed her medical degree (MBBS) in 2008 and Master of Ophthalmology in 2016, both in University of Malaya. She also won the award as the best master student in her national post graduate ophthalmology examination in Malaysia. In addition, she also completed the external international ophthalmology examination, FRCOphth (UK) and was concurrently admitted as a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologist in United Kingdom in 2016.     Dr Penny Lott subsequently pursued her 3 years medical retina and uveitis fellowship training in University of Malaya, Singapore National Eye Center and St James Leeds Teaching Hospital in United Kingdom. Besides that, she also completed a fellowship attachment in the prestigious Moorfield’s Eye Hospital, London. Her fellowship training at various renowned centers had ensured her subspecialty clinical knowledge gained is at a high level.     Dr Penny Lott has a strong interest in the field of medical retina, ocular inflammatory diseases and latest multimodal imaging innovation. She has published papers in several peer reviewed journals and contributed book chapters for ophthalmology trainees. She also had international collaborative research and publication with the Singapore National Eye Centre and St James Leeds Teaching Hospital in United Kingdom. She is also a reviewer for  the International Journal of Ophthalmology. She is also frequently invited for medical talks related to her subspecialty in local national conferences as well as ASEAN ophthalmology conference.             Prior to this, she served in Sabah for 8 years since her commencement of internship back in 2008 where she was actively involved in eye screening programs in remote areas and participated in cataract camps in Sabah. After joining University of Malaya as a lecturer, she was actively involved in organizing phacoemulsification workshops for master students and she is was appointed as coordinator of phacoemulsification workshops for Master students by Malaysian Universities Conjoint Committee of Ophthalmology. PROF. DR. JARIAH BINTI MOHD JAN

Jariah Mohd Jan is Professor in Sociolinguistics at the Department of English Language, Faculty of Languages and Linguistics, Universiti Malaya. She has held several leadership roles at the university as the Deputy Dean of the Institute of Graduate Studies, Deputy Executive Director of the Asia-Europe Institute, Deputy Dean of Research and Development, Deputy Dean of Undergraduate Studies and Dean of the Faculty of Languages and Linguistics. She specialises in sociolinguistics, in particular, gender and power in relation to language. Her recent work focuses on pragmatics, leadership discourse and the relevance of gender and ethnicity in the workplace, and academic concerns and needs of children in foster care. She is Programme Leader of the Impact-Oriented Interdisciplinary Research Grant (IIRG) Programme on documenting the language and culture of the Kerinchi community in Kuala Lumpur. She has also published numerous articles in international journals on topics ranging from gendered discourse, through socio-pragmatic aspects of interaction, to discourse and linguistic features of the Mah Meri, Javanese and Kerinchi communities in Malaysia. PROFESSOR CHM DR. JUAN JOON CHING

ChM Dr Joon Ching Juan is Professor of Catalysis and Nanotechnology at Nanotechnology and Catalysis Research Centre (NANOCAT), Universiti Malaya, Malaysia. Currently, he has been appointed as Chair of Frontier Natural World Research Cluster at Universiti Malaya and Head of International Co-operation relation at NANOCAT. He obtained his BSc (Hons) Chemical Technology (2003) and PhD in Chemistry (2007) degrees from the National University of Malaysia, Malaysia.             He has been actively involved in various research activities especially in the area of nanomaterial and catalysis. Most of his research activities are focused on understanding the and manipulating nano-structure to be applied in environmental and energy. Up to date, he has managed to publish more than 200 WoS publications with an h-index of 47 (10,348 citations). With his expertise and experience, he has received about RM 9,500,000 (ca. USD 2,000,000) grants from national, industry and international organizations such as The World Academy of Science Grant (TWAS, UNESCO), E-science fund (MOSTI), and industry grants. As a strong believer in research driven innovation, he has filed eight patents to be used in industries.             He is also the recipient of several prestigious awards and recognition including 2% Top Scientist in the World by Sandford University (2022-2020), Ten Outstanding Young Malaysian (2020) by Junior Chamber International,  Future Academician Award by Ministry of Education (2018), Malaysia Research Star Award by Ministry of Education (2017), National Young Scientist Award by Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (2016), outstanding paper award by Elsevier (2018), Pro Vice Chancellor Award in Teaching, Monash (2012), and just few to mention. Besides being engaged in teaching and research, he also serves as Fellow of Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC, UK), Chartered Chemist (CSci, UK), Chartered Scientist (CSci, UK), Member of Malaysia Institute of Chemistry (IKM), and others.             In term leadership and administration, he is elected as the President of Balai Ikhtisas Malaysia (BIM) which oversee all professional bodies, Treasurer of Federation of Asian Chemistry Society (FACS), National Representative/Associate member of IUPAC in Chemistry and the Environment Division, Associate Member of IUPAC in Chemical Research Applied to World Needs (CHEMRAWN), council member and honorary secretary of Malaysian Institute of Chemistry (IKM). In addition, he also appointed as radiation protection officer (RPO), chemical safety and security officer training (CSSO), deputy quality manager (DQM), National Focus Group Member Globally Harmonized System (GHS), National technical committee member of Nanotechnologies (ISO Standard), National committee Member, Industry Standards Committee on Environmental Management (ISC Z). He has conducted various courses, talks, keynote, and plenary lecture on chemical safety and security, green synthesis laboratory, water pollution, photocatalysis wastewater treatment, biofuel, bioenergy, etc. With his experience and expertise, he has also been appointed as consultant and advisor to many governments’ bodies and industries.
