Dr. Chui Ping Lei is a senior lecturer with the Department of Nursing Science, Faculty of Medicine, University Malaya, Malaysia. She was a registered nurse, and obtained her Master of Medical Science (Nursing) in 2008, having joined the department in 2010. In 2015, She obtained her Ph.D. from the University of Malaya. Apart from teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students, she has been involved in curriculum development/review, coordinating the Master of Nursing Science Program, and serving as an external examiner for program improvement. She is active in research work. Her research interests are cancer care (quality of life, symptom burden/management, CAM, patient education), complementary integrative therapy (oral cryotherapy, mindful breathing, mind-body practices, kangaroo mother care), and issues related to nurses/ nursing education/ nursing management (health behavior, professional quality of life, workplace violence, information literacy, teaching-learning), stoma care, wound care, and adult/ neonatal nursing care. She has published widely in international refereed journals. Dr. Chui has been awarded Universiti Malaya Excellence Award Ph.D. Graduates 2015, Certificate of Excellence Service 2022, Excellence Service Award 2019 & 2023, and Asian University Alliance Scholars in 2020.
show more »Dr. Sajar Othman is a Professor of Family Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya. She chairs the Violence Intervention Committee (VIC), which was established in 2012 to ensure the appropriate management of family violence and other types of interpersonal violence at the University of Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC). She was once the head of the Department of Research, Development and Innovation and the head of the Department of Primary Care Medicine at UMMC. She was the overall coordinator for the primary care services at UMMC and chaired the UMMC medical inquiry discussion. She teaches primary care medicine, family violence, communication and self-care to both undergraduate and postgraduate students. She currently holds the University of Malaya Interdisciplinary Impact Research Grant (IIRG) that looks into ways to support women and children who are involved in family violence. She is the principal investigator for one of the five subprograms of the Prevent Elder Abuse Initiative (PEACE) under the University of Malaya Grand Challenge Programme, exploring the effect of intensive elder abuse training on primary care doctors’ knowledge, attitude and skills. Other research areas include adolescent/young adult well-being (sexual assault, healthy relationships, unplanned pregnancy and adolescent violence), end-of-life (advance care planning) and strain among healthcare providers (burnout and mindfulness-based stress reduction). The Ungku Aziz Centre for Development Studies has appointed her as a research fellow to provide input on poverty, ageing and health. She is a co-chair and a regional representative for the World Family Doctor Association (WONCA) Special Interest Group in Family Violence. She is the vice president for the Malaysian Association of Adolescent Health. Heading a team of multidisciplinary researchers, Sajar was appointed as a consultant by UNICEF to explore and report on children’s rights in Sabah. She is active in advocating against family violence. She is part of the expert panel for the preparation of the Elder Abuse and Neglect Act and clinical management for domestic violence and elder abuse in the Malaysian health system. show more »Professor Dr. Azhar Ariffin earned his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry with honors from Universiti Malaya in 1993, followed by a Ph.D. in Asymmetric Organic Synthesis from the University of Nottingham, UK, in 1999. Upon completing his studies, he returned to Malaysia and began his career as a young lecturer in the Chemistry Department at the University of Malaya. Over the years, he climbed the academic ranks, achieving the status of Associate Professor in 2003 and attaining the position of full Professor in 2016. From 2021 to 2022, Professor Dr. Azhar Ariffin served as the Head of the Chemistry Department before assuming the role of Deputy Dean of Research at the Faculty of Science from 2022 to 2024. Currently, he holds the position of Deputy Dean of Development at the Faculty of Science. His research endeavors predominantly focus on organic synthesis, with a specific interest in developing bioactive compounds, including derivatives of butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT), oxadiazole, thiadiazole, and triazole for use as antioxidants. Additionally, he explores the synthesis of various derivatives of quinazoline for potential applications in anticancer treatments. Currently, his research involves the creation of carbazole derivatives for their utility in organic light-emitting diode (OLED) materials, with a focus on improving the C(sp²)-N bond formation through the Buchwald-Hartwig reaction under microwave irradiation. Professor Dr. Azhar Ariffin's contributions extend beyond his home institution, as he served as an Experienced Researcher at Kaunas University of Technology from 2019 to 2023 under the MEGA HORIZON 2020 PROJECT: MARIE SKŁODOWSKA-CURIE RESEARCH AND INNOVATION STAFF EXCHANGE.
