Meor Faisal Zulkifli received his Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Surrey, UK, and his Ph.D. in Engineering from Imperial College London. He is currently a Senior Lecturer at Universiti Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, specializing in power generation and machine learning applications. Meor Faisal Zulkifli has significant industry experience, having served as Project Leader and Principal Researcher at TNB Research, where he led multiple projects focused on improving the efficiency of gas turbine and coal-fired power plants using advanced technologies, including AI and machine learning. During his tenure at TNB Research, he successfully led 5 major projects that collectively amounted to more than RM 10 million. His expertise lies in fuels and combustion, clean energy, power plant operations, and AI integration. Meor Faisal Zulkifli is currently working on projects related to hydrogen/ammonia combustion for industrial gas turbines, coal combustion enhancement using chemical additives, and developing intelligent systems for optimizing power plant operations.
show more »Currently is a Professor at Shariah and Law Department, Academy of Islamic Studies, University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Studied at University of Malaya. Received Bachelor of Shariah (Islamic Law) (first class honours) in 1987 from University of Malaya. Later, went to London to receive further training at School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London and obtained LL.M in 1989 and PhD in 1996. Area of specialization is Islamic law of transactions and property, contemporary issues of fatwa and Shariah courts in Malaysia. Has been teaching at the University of Malaya since 1987 both at postgraduate and undergraduate levels. Awarded a number of governmental and international research fund with the accumulative amount of RM600,000. Has successfully supervised more than 30 postgraduate thesis and dissertations. Written and presented more than 100 articles and papers in journals and conference both locally and internationally. Authored and edited six books. Served as consultant and adviser on Shariah matters to several Banks and financial institutions in Malaysia and Singapore. Currently served as Chairman of the Shariah Supervisory Council for Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad (BIMB) and Amanah Raya Berhad. Qualified Shariah Legal Counsel in the Federal Territory Shariah Courts. Appointed as visiting lecturer at Religious Department, Victoria University, Wellington, New Zealand in 2001, awarded as visiting research associate at Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies, UK in 2005, visiting fellow at Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, University of London in 2006, visiting scholar at the Center for the Study of the Middle East and Muslim Civilizations, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, USA in 2011, Ankara Social Sciences University, Universitas Islam Negeri Jakarta and Soka University Japan in 2019 respectively. Hold various administrative posts at University of Malaya as Head of Shariah and Law Department 1997-1999, Deputy Director for Research and Development, Academy of Islamic Studies 2005-2006 and Director of Academy of Islamic Studies 2006-2011. Involved in curricula development, design and monitoring of Islamic Shariah Higher Degrees at University and national level as Senate Member of the University, member of the national accreditation committee of Malaysia Qualification Agency (MQA) 2010-2019, auditor and panel assessor for the same agency since 1997. Conferred DSDK by His Majesty the Sultan of Kedah which carries the title Dato' in the conjunction of His Highness 88th birthday on 17th January 2016 for excellent and loyal service. show more »Professor Dr. April Roslani is a Professor of Colorectal Surgery, and was Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya from 2020 - 2024. She graduated from the University of Wales College of Medicine in 1995, and was awarded Universiti Malaya’s Master of Surgery in 2003. In 2007, she established University Malaya Medical Centre’s (UMMC) Colorectal Surgery Unit, which is now the largest in the country, and a key stakeholder in colorectal training and services nationally and regionally. Her areas of expertise include surgery for colorectal cancer, proctology, surgical training and professionalism. She established the first Malaysian Cytoreductive Surgery (CRS) and Hyperthermic Intra-Peritoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC) service in UMMC, which is delivered by a multi-disciplinary team. Prof. April is an influential driver of postgraduate medical training nationally, regionally and internationally. She has chaired the Conjoint Committee for Postgraduate Medical Degrees, which oversees, aligns and coordinates medical specialist training programmes across all higher education providers in Malaysia. Recognizing the need to standardize training across institutions in order to meet the country’s need for healthcare specialists, she led the development of a new national training curriculum for general surgery under the National Postgraduate Curriculum Project. As chair of the Train-the-Trainers Steering Committee, she led the development of a blended curriculum for train-the-trainers modules, which has been rolled out across all specialties, nationally. She has advocated against toxic workplace environments, generating the evidence base and incorporating training modules in both trainee and trainer curricula. Her leadership credentials are undisputed. Until recently, she was Regional Ambassador for the Association of Academic Health Centers International, and hosted the ASEAN Medical Deans Summit in 2023. She is a Councillor in the International Surgical Society, which champions outreach educational activities to improve access to surgical services globally, and was part of the team that successfully ran the International Surgical Week 2024 in Malaysia for the first time. She was Chair of the Steering Committee for the National Postgraduate Medical Curriculum Project. From a regulatory perspective, she leads the Malaysian Medical Council’s Specialty Subcommittee (Education) for General Surgery, which set the standards for recognition of training programmes, and she regularly evaluates programmes for accreditation by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency. She is the immediate Past-President for the Malaysian Society of Colorectal Surgeons, the College of Surgeons, Academy of Medicine of Malaysia and the Asia Pacific Federation of Coloproctology. Through these and other related roles, she works towards advancing surgical standards, and fairness in the workplace. Her work has been recognized by the international surgical fraternity, through numerous Honorary Fellowship awards, including most recently from the Royal College of Surgeons of England, and the American Surgical Association.
