Seon-Hahn KIM, MD, PhD, FACS Dr. Kim Seon Hahn is Professor and Consultant colorectal surgeon working at Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, as his new academic position appointed in Sep 2022. He had been Professor of Colorectal Division, Department of Surgery at Korea University Anam Hospital, Korea University College of Medicine, Seoul, Korea (2006-2022). He has been specifically interested in robotic and minimally invasive surgery and surgical anatomy in the colorectum during the past 30 years. Prof. Kim has performed more than 3500 laparoscopic colon and rectal resections and over 1000 robotic rectal resections, mainly for cancer. He performed many live robotic and laparoscopic surgeries at various international congresses and at oversea hospitals. He was honored to give several orations such as; the ‘BJS Lecture’ at the 2015 Congress of European Society of Coloproctology in Dublin, the very first ‘Yasunobu Tsujinaka Memorial Oration’ at the 27th Annual Jagelman/37th Turnbull International Colorectal Symposium 2016 held in Florida, ‘The William Hugh Isbister Lecture’ at the 2019 Saudi-International Colorectal Diseases Forum in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and ‘Dr. Pradeep Chowbay Oration’ at Indian Association of Gastrointestinal Endosurgeons (IAGES) 2023 Midterm Conference in Bhopal, India. Prof. Kim was the Founding President of Korean Association of Robotic Surgeons (KAROS, 2013-15) and the Chairman of the Korean Society of Endoscopic and Laparoscopic Surgeons (KSELS, 2014-16). He was awarded the Yeoh Ghim Seng Professor of Surgery by National University of Singapore (2008-14), and Dr. Anthony PC Yim Professorship in Minimally Invasive Surgery and Innovative Technology by Chinese University of Hong Kong (2011). He has been also invited as visiting professor/scholarship worldwide, including Cleveland Clinic Cleveland, OH, USA (2009), Royal Brisbane Hospital in Australia (2011), National Cheng Gong University in Taiwan (2012/2015), Kumamoto University in Japan (2013), Karolinska Institute Hospital in Stockholm, Sweden (2015/2017), and University of Western Sydney, Australia (2018-2024).
show more »Dr. Mohd Rizal Muwazir is an Associate Professor in the Department of Islamic Management and Finance, Academy of Islamic Studies, Universiti Malaya. He obtained his Ph.D. in 2012 from Cardiff Business School, United Kingdom, and also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Social Science Research Methods from Cardiff University (2007). He completed his Bachelor in Shariah (Shariah & Management) (2003) and Master of Business Administration (Accounting) (2006) at Universiti Malaya. Dr. Mohd Rizal’s research interests lie in the areas of Islamic banking and finance, Shariah auditing and governance, CSR, and financial sustainability. He currently serves as a Shariah Committee Member at OCBC Al-Amin Bank Berhad (since 2023) and Great Eastern Takaful Berhad (since 2025). Additionally, he is affiliated as a research team member with the Gulf One Lab for Computational and Economic Research (GOLCER) at Lancaster University Management School, United Kingdom. In addition to his academic and professional roles, Dr. Mohd Rizal serves on the editorial boards of several local and international journals, including the Online Journal of Islamic Management and Finance (Universiti Malaya), Jurnal Kinabalu (Universiti Malaysia Sabah), and El Muhasaba: Jurnal Akuntansi (Indonesia). He is also a certified Halal Executive, accredited by the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM).
show more »Associate Professor Dr. Anand Sanmugam is a Consultant Paediatric & Neonatal Surgeon at Universiti Malaya and a dedicated leader in medical education and paediatric surgery. His journey in medicine began at Universiti Putra Malaysia, where he earned his Bachelor of Medical Sciences and Doctor in Medicine degrees in 2004. He became a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons (Ireland) in 2011. Anand trained in paediatric surgery under the Master of Paediatric Surgery programme at Universiti Malaya and further honed his expertise through a Clinical Fellowship in Paediatric Surgery at Perth Children’s Hospital in Western Australia. He has a special interest in Minimally Invasive Surgery for children. He holds a second Master's degree in Medical Education, which he earned with distinction. He is the Programme (co-) Director of the Master of Paediatric Surgery Programme at Universiti Malaya and one of the core authors of the National Postgraduate Medical Curriculum for Paediatric Surgery. In his current leadership roles, Anand serves as a Malaysian Medical Council Appointed Specialist Programme Evaluation Panel Member, the Co-Chair of the National Postgraduate Medical Curriculum Committee for Evaluation and Quality Assurance, and the Chair of the Specialty Subcommittee for Education (SSc Edu - Paediatric Surgery). Anand is a member of the Paediatric Surgery Specialty Conjoined Board, which oversees all aspects of paediatric surgical training in the country. Additionally, he is part of the faculty development team within the Medical Education and Research Development Unit (MERDU). He actively participates in the University Malaya Medical Programme, contributing to the Multiple Mini Interview (MBBS intake) taskforce and the Program Quality Assurance (ProAE) team for postgraduate studies within the Faculty of Medicine. He is also chairs the Subspecialty Curriculum Review Committee for Universiti Malaya Medical Centre. Internationally, he chairs the Education Working Group for the Global Initiative for Children's Surgery. He is also a member of the ASEAN Collaborative Evaluation Quality Enhancement Task Force for medical schools. Anand's research interests are diverse, spanning surgical conditions in children, patient reported outcomes, medical education, and translational research in tissue engineering. Through his clinical, academic, and leadership roles, Dr. Anand aspires to advance healthcare and medical education, ensuring a lasting impact on his field and beyond.
