ASSOCIATE PROF. DR. VICTOR SELVARAJAH A/L SELVANAYAGAM

Victor S Selvanayagam completed his degree in Sports Science and Master’s in Medical Science at the University of Malaya (UM). He received his PhD from The University of Queensland in the area of Neuroscience where he focused on identifying early neural responses to strength training. Victor, who is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning specialist (CSCS), is currently an Associate Professor and was the Deputy Director (Research and Development) with the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Science, Universiti Malaya. He played a pivotal role in developing and is currently the coordinator for the first Master of Strength and Condtioning Program in Malaysia. His main research focuses on the contribution of the nervous system to strength by incorporating well-explored motor learning paradigms to strength training. He also plays a consultative role in the area of exercise physiology and exercise testing and prescription. ASSOCIATE PROF. DR. KATHREENA BINTI MASNAH @ KADIR

Dr Kathreena Kadir  BDS(Mal), MClinDent(OMFS)(Mal), Fellowship in Oral & Maxillofacial Oncology and Reconstructive Surgery (Shanghai), AM   Dr Kathreena Kadir obtained her Bachelor of Dental Surgery from University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur in 2005. She then served the Ministry of Health for four years before returning to the same university to pursue her Master’s in Clinical Dentistry specializing in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. Upon graduation in 2013, she joined the academia and currently an Associate Professor and consultant in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Clinical Sciences. She is a member of Malaysia Academy of Medicine and has held the post of Honorary Secretary for the Malaysian Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (MAOMS) in the year 2015 till 2018 and a member of the Oral Cancer Research & Coordinating Centre (OCRCC) since 2015. Her main surgical interest has always been managing patients with head and neck tumours and had recently completed her one-year Fellowship in Oral & Maxillofacial Oncology and Reconstructive Surgery at Shanghai 9th People’s Hospital affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China. Upon returning, she is among the lead surgeon in managing oral cancer clinic and service in University Malaya Medical Centre. Dr Kadir had also supervised numerous postgraduate research thesis in the field of both oral cancer and Temporomandibular Disorders (TMD). While pursuing her interest in head and neck oncology, Dr Kadir has also developed another passion in management of patients with TMD. Over the last 5 years, her team had successfully developed and validated the Malay - Diagnostic Criteria for Temporomandibular Disorders (M-DC/TMD) according to the stringent standard set by the International Network for Orofacial pain & Related disorders Methodology (INfORM). With the establishment of these two instruments (DC/TMD and M-DC/TMD), she hopes to propose the usage of these tools nationwide as a standard protocol in diagnosing and managing patients with TMD. She also contributes in coordinating and pioneering the development of the TMD Multidisciplinary Team combined clinic in Faculty of Dentistry, Universiti Malaya.

DATO' PROF. DR. ADEEBA BINTI KAMARULZAMAN

Professor Adeeba Kamarulzaman graduated from Monash University in 1987 and trained in internal medicine and infectious diseases at the Monash Medical Centre and Fairfield Infectious Diseases Hospital, Melbourne, Australia. She is presently the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya and an Adjunct Associate Professor at Yale University, USA. She established the Centre of Excellence for Research on AIDS (CERiA) that conducts multi-disciplinary research on HIV ranging from clinical to public health and policy research. Professor Kamarulzaman has used her clinical and academic leadership to engage in the national and community response to HIV/AIDS. She is currently Chairman of the Malaysian AIDS Foundation and an Executive Council member of the Malaysian AIDS Council, the peak HIV NGO in Malaysia. At the international level, Professor Kamarulzaman is presently an Executive Council Member of the International AIDS Society and a member of the UNAIDS Scientific Expert Panel on HIV. She has also been an advisor to numerous WHO committees on HIV/AIDS. She has played a key role in the establishment and ongoing activities and collaborations of a regional HIV research network initiative; TREAT Asia. Her achievements have been recognised through several national and international awards including the Tun Mahathir Science and the Merdeka Awards for her role as a member of the University of Malaya’s Nipah Investigative Team. She is the first recipient of the Advance Australia Global Award in the category of Alumni in 2012 and in April 2015 she was honoured with a Doctor of Laws (honoris causa) from her alma mater, Monash University. She also has the distinct honour of having been featured in both The Lancet and Science publications in 2013 and 2014 respectively.
