Wei Ru Wong obtained her Ph.D. and B.Eng. degrees from the Department of Electrical Engineering at the Universiti Malaya, Malaysia. She is currently a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Malaya. Her research interests span widely across the photonics areas, especially in the development of planar waveguides and optical fibers using surface plasmon for sensing applications. She was the recipient of Malaysia Toray Science Foundation (MTSF) Science and Technology Award in 2017 and she was one of the 20 honourees of the MIT Technology Review Innovators Under 35 Asia Pacific competition in 2020. She has published more than 40 top quality internationally refereed journal papers with over 600 citations. She is also a Professional Engineer registered under the Board of Engineers Malaysia.
show more »Muhammad Faizal A. Ghani is an Associate Professor in the Department of Educational Management, Administration and Policy, Faculty of Education, University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur. His expertise is Educational Leadership focusing on Educational Management and Administration, and School Finance. His expertise is for the benefit of society by sharing some academic knowledge, skills, and value in the forms of reading material such as publishing nine academic books and two hunderd articles. His latest academic book entitled “Professional Learning Communities: Theories and Practices”. In terms of delivering an academic speech, he has been selected to be keynote speakers and invited speakers for some international and national conferences, seminars, and workshops. In the research area, besides being an evaluator for research proposals of his university’s academic staff, he has been awarded more than USD80,000 research grants for his interest in Effective School, Educational Leadership, School Finance, and Principalship. With interest and expertise in Internet of Things (IoT), image processing, computer vision, and pattern recognition, his scholarly work has enriched both academic knowledge and practical applications. His extensive experience in teaching, learning, and research has influenced countless learners, and his research is widely published in reputed journals. As a mentor, he has successfully supervised 25 Ph.D. candidates, providing invaluable emotional and motivational support to ensure their success. His expertise is also sought after in academic circles, where he serves as a reviewer and editorial board member for journals like MJCS, Pattern Recognition, and IEEE Transactions on ITS. Additionally, he has been an external examiner for Ph.D. candidates and has contributed to international technical review panels. Beyond his research contributions, Dr. Idris has held key faculty leadership positions, including Head of Department and Deputy Dean (Undergraduate (acting) and Research & Development), playing a vital role in shaping academic direction and fostering innovation. He also has experience as the Industrial Training Coordinator, where he bridges the gap between academia and industry, providing students with valuable real-world insights. His contributions also extend to national progress, as he has actively participated in digitalization initiatives for government agencies like KPDNHEP and MATRADE. Recognizing the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration, he has pioneered research efforts that integrate computer science with other fields, driving innovative solutions. Dr. Idris’s unwavering dedication has earned him three Certificates of Excellent Service and three Excellence Service Awards, highlighting his outstanding contributions to academia. His impact is further recognized internationally, having been listed among Stanford’s Top 2% Scientists in 2024.
