PROFESSOR CHM DR. JUAN JOON CHING

ChM Dr Joon Ching Juan is Professor of Catalysis and Nanotechnology at Nanotechnology and Catalysis Research Centre (NANOCAT), Universiti Malaya, Malaysia. Currently, he has been appointed as Chair of Frontier Natural World Research Cluster at Universiti Malaya and Head of International Co-operation relation at NANOCAT. He obtained his BSc (Hons) Chemical Technology (2003) and PhD in Chemistry (2007) degrees from the National University of Malaysia, Malaysia.             He has been actively involved in various research activities especially in the area of nanomaterial and catalysis. Most of his research activities are focused on understanding the and manipulating nano-structure to be applied in environmental and energy. Up to date, he has managed to publish more than 200 WoS publications with an h-index of 47 (10,348 citations). With his expertise and experience, he has received about RM 9,500,000 (ca. USD 2,000,000) grants from national, industry and international organizations such as The World Academy of Science Grant (TWAS, UNESCO), E-science fund (MOSTI), and industry grants. As a strong believer in research driven innovation, he has filed eight patents to be used in industries.             He is also the recipient of several prestigious awards and recognition including 2% Top Scientist in the World by Sandford University (2022-2020), Ten Outstanding Young Malaysian (2020) by Junior Chamber International,  Future Academician Award by Ministry of Education (2018), Malaysia Research Star Award by Ministry of Education (2017), National Young Scientist Award by Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (2016), outstanding paper award by Elsevier (2018), Pro Vice Chancellor Award in Teaching, Monash (2012), and just few to mention. Besides being engaged in teaching and research, he also serves as Fellow of Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC, UK), Chartered Chemist (CSci, UK), Chartered Scientist (CSci, UK), Member of Malaysia Institute of Chemistry (IKM), and others.             In term leadership and administration, he is elected as the President of Balai Ikhtisas Malaysia (BIM) which oversee all professional bodies, Treasurer of Federation of Asian Chemistry Society (FACS), National Representative/Associate member of IUPAC in Chemistry and the Environment Division, Associate Member of IUPAC in Chemical Research Applied to World Needs (CHEMRAWN), council member and honorary secretary of Malaysian Institute of Chemistry (IKM). In addition, he also appointed as radiation protection officer (RPO), chemical safety and security officer training (CSSO), deputy quality manager (DQM), National Focus Group Member Globally Harmonized System (GHS), National technical committee member of Nanotechnologies (ISO Standard), National committee Member, Industry Standards Committee on Environmental Management (ISC Z). He has conducted various courses, talks, keynote, and plenary lecture on chemical safety and security, green synthesis laboratory, water pollution, photocatalysis wastewater treatment, biofuel, bioenergy, etc. With his experience and expertise, he has also been appointed as consultant and advisor to many governments’ bodies and industries.

PROF. DR. JENNIFER ANN HARIKRISHNA

Prof. Dr. Jennifer Ann Harikrishna is a Professor of Microbiology & Molecular Genetics at the Faculty of Science, University of Malaya, Malaysia. Prof. Jenni is a British citizen with permanent residence status in Malaysia. After completing her Bachelor of Sciences degree in Microbiology at the University of Surrey, U.K. she was awarded a Whitbread Scholarship to pursue her doctoral thesis on the molecular genetics of industrial yeast at the Cranfield Institute of Technology, Cranfield University, U.K. She graduated in 1990 winning the Chancellors Gold Medal for the most outstanding graduate student of the year. Dr. Jenni then moved to the U.S.A. to take up a two year post-doctoral fellowship at the University of California in San Francisco (UCSF). Dr. Jenni moved to Malaysia in 1991 where she continued her post doctoral research at the University of Malaya, Department of Biology, before joining TropBio Research Sdn Bhd, a small private plant biotechnology company in 1996. In 2001 she joined the Institute of Bioscience at University Putra Malaysia (UPM) as an Associate Professor. Prior to re-joining the University of Malaya in 2006, Dr Jenni was an Associate Professor of Biotechnology at the Malaysia University of Science and Technology (MUST). Prof. Jenni became a full Professor at the University of Malaya in 2011 and holds joint positions as a member of the Faculty of Science and as the Director of the Centre for Research in Biotechnology for Agriculure (CEBAR), University of Malaya. Prof. Jenni also holds a current appointment as an Honorary Visiting Fellow in the Department of Genetics and Genome Biology at the University of Leicester, UK. Her current research focus is on functional genomics and biotechnology for tropical crop improvemnt.

PROF. SR DR. YASMIN BINTI MOHD ADNAN

  Dr Sr Yasmin Mohd Adnan has been with the Department of Real Estate, Faculty of Built Environment since 2001 until her retirement as a Professor in 2024. Currently, she is taking on the role of Honorary Professor in the same department. During her term at the university, she was the Head of the Department of Estate Management from 2004 to 2007, from 2015 to 2018, and was the Deputy Dean (Undergraduate Studies) from 2019 to 2021. Before joining the University of Malaya, she worked in a property consultancy firm, a bank, the property subsidiary of PETRONAS, the national oil company and KLCC Urusharta. Her career spans over 30 years in the areas of valuation, property and facilities management within the real estate practice and academic sectors. A valuer and property manager by training and professionally registered with the Board of Valuers, Appraisers, Estate Agent and Property Managers, Malaysia, Dr Yasmin has been involved in several major research projects in real estate focusing on commercial real estate studies, real estate sustainability (management & development) as well as real estate economics and has published in several local and international journals. She is also currently a fellow and member of several professional organisations which include the Royal Institution of Surveyors Malaysia (RISM), Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (UK) and Malaysia Institute of Property and Facility Managers, Malaysia and has held various positions in RISM including as a council member, examination board member, editorial board member, education and accreditation board as well as past Secretary of the Property Surveyors Division. In addition, she was a board member of the Pacific Rim Real Estate Society from 2011 to 2017. She was the chief editor of the International Journal of Property Sciences, a journal of the Faculty of Built Environment, University of Malaya. She has also chaired international conferences, including the Pacific Rim Real Estate Society conferences held twice (jointly with the Royal Institution of Surveyors, Malaysia - partnering universities committee) in Kuala Lumpur.
