Dr. Noer El Hidayah Binti Ismail, is a Senior Lecturer at Department of Geology, Faculty of Science, Universiti Malaya. She completed her Doctorate, Master of Science, and Bachelor of Science degree majoring in Geophysics from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). Her areas of expertise are geophysics near surface utilizing geophysical methods such as electrical, seismic and potential methods. As a senior lecturer, she teaches geophysics related courses, statistics and data analysis courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. She also supervised undergraduate and postgraduate students in geophysics related researches. She has several postgraduate students that is currently under her supervision and completed their studies. She is currently the Program Coordinator of BSc Applied Geology and has also involve in other administrative works as well. As a researchers, she has several grants as principal investigator (PI) and also co-researchers with other researchers from different field. She also has published research articles in various refereed journals and conference proceedings indexed by ISI and Scopus. Other than publishing research articles, she also has reviewed various journal manuscripts from various Journals/Conferences such as Environmental Earth Sciences, Sains Malaysiana, Geological Society of Malaysia, Journal of Physical Science, Jurnal Fizik Malaysia, International Journal of Geophysics, Journal of Sustainability Science and Management and others. She is currently one of the Associate Editor of the Malaysian Journal of Science (MJS). She also has some experience in consulting geophysical studies involving near surface research.
show more »Dr Nishakanthi Gopalan is a Senior Lecturer at the Medical Humanities and Ethics Unit (MedHEU), a newly established unit within the Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya (UM). She is a biotechnologist by training with a PhD in research ethics and policy implication particularly looking at stem cell technology. During this time, she published her key findings in several reputable high-impact bioethics journals. Dr Nisha is the Programme Coordinator of the Master of Health Research Ethics (MOHRE), a programme developed incollaboration with the Berman Institute of Bioethics, Johns Hopkins University (JHU). Besides teaching in MOHRE, she also provides ethics lectures in other programmes in the faculty. Dr Nisha also contributes as a member of the Universiti Malaya Research Ethics Committee (UMREC) as well as an external member of the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) Medical Research Ethics Committee. She is one of the instructors for the Introduction to Health Research Ethics, an online course in FutureLearn. She also facilitates the APRU Health Research Ethics course. Additionally, Dr. Nisha is an editorial board member of the Asian Bioethics Review. Dr Nisha’s research interest includes different aspects of ethics such as bioethics, research and clinical ethics on diverse topics ranging from emerging technologies (such as regenerative medicine, stem cells, and genetic testing), health research, and aesthetic medicine. She is an expert in qualitative research methods such as in depth interviews, focus group discussion (FGD), inductive and deductive analysis, thematic analysis,grounded theory, as well as narrative and scoping reviews. Currently, Dr Nisha is working on a bioethics training grant (Fogarty International Centre, NIH US) with Johns Hopkins University (JHU), the ethics of genetic testing among Parkinson’s patients (USMC Care Fund), ethics and governance in AI in healthcare and understanding the ethics committee deliberarion process. She is constantly on the look out for collaborations with local/regional/international projects on various topics involving ethics.
show more »Ling Tek Soon is a senior lecturer at the Institute of China Studies, University of Malaya. Apart from teaching, he is currently working on a UMRG project in University of Malaya, entitle “Abode of Dead, Depository of Knowledge and Contested Realm: A Study of Chinese Cemeteries in Malaysia”. Ling Tek Soon received his BA (Chinese Studies) and MA (East Asian Studies) from University of Malaya in 1997 and 2002.His thesis was titled “The Fundamental Ideologies of Deng Xiao Ping Conceming Reformation and Renewal since 1978" (Idea-idea Asas Deng Xiaoping terhadap Dasar Reformasi danPembukaan sejak tahun 1978). He was a tutor in the East Asian Studies Department, University of Malaya from 1998 to 2000 while working jointly as a n executive editor in The "Rosa Sintesis" Journal published by Centre of Malaysian Chinese Studies. In year 2001, he worked as a Mandarin Lecturer in UiTM, Pahang. Subsequently, he went on to pursue a Ph.D at Tsinghua University, Beijing in 2007. He received a doctorate degree in 2011 with a thesis titled “The Political Idea of Yangdu”. In the same year, he was appointed as a lecturer in Institute of China Studies, University of Malaya.
