Assoc. Prof. Dr. Patricia Nora Riget is a senior lecturer at the Department of Asian and European Languages, Faculty of Languages and Linguistics, Universiti Malaya. She was formerly the Head of Department of Asian and European Languages, Faculty of Languages and Linguistics, Universiti Malaya (2012-2016) and also the Deputy Director of the International Relations Centre, Universiti Malaya (2019 - 2022). Her achievements include being conferred the Knight of the Order of Academic Palms (Chevalier de l’Ordre des Palmes Académiques) by the Government of France in 2019. The award recognises Dr. Patricia’s contribution to the strengthening of cooperation in the French language and culture between France and Malaysia. Patricia received her Bachelor and Master of Arts (Teaching of French as a Foreign Language) from Université de Franche-Comté, Besançon, France and her Master 2 Research and Doctorate in Language Sciences (Teaching of French as a Foreign Language) from Université de Strasbourg, France. She has to-date published more than 30 papers in respectable journals, books and conference proceedings both locally and internationally. Her research interests are in the areas of didactics of foreign languages, language education and ethnolinguistic. Her secondary interest is in the area of internationalisation of higher education institutions.
show more »Professor Dr. Nor Liyana Mohd Shuib is a distinguished academic at the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, Universiti Malaya, where she coordinates the Bachelor of Computer Science (Data Science) program. Ranked among the top 2% of scientists globally by Stanford University in 2023-2024, she is renowned for her excellence in research, innovation, and consultancy. Throughout her career, Professor Liyana has successfully supervised numerous PhD students to completion, reflecting her dedication to mentoring and nurturing future scholars. She is a prolific researcher with a Scopus H-index of 35 and a Web of Science H-index of 32, and she has published extensively in high-impact journals and international conference proceedings. Her research interests include personalization, e-learning, recommender systems, data analytics, data science, AI applications, and educational technology. An accomplished innovator, Professor Liyana has received over 30 prestigious awards at both national and international levels, including multiple best paper accolades. She leads impactful projects as the Principal Investigator, notably on digital skills frameworks and mental health applications for senior citizens, alongside various AI-driven initiatives in Healthcare and Education. Her consultancy work for Malaysia's Ministry of Higher Education includes evaluating digital learning readiness across higher education institutions. A senior member of the IEEE Computer Society, Professor Liyana also serves as an Adjunct Professor at Universitas Semarang, Indonesia, where she continues to advance the fields of computer science and AI applications.
show more »Prof Dr Vikineswary started her academic career after completing her PhD in the Institute of Postgraduate Studies in 1989 as a lecturer. She ventured into search, discovery and utilisation of indigenous microorganisms including actinomycetes and phototrophic bacteria for feed, feed or fine chemicals. Her research activities diversified and while studying the potential of mushrooms and in particular the white - rot fungi in environmental biotechnology, she had the opportunity to work with mushroom farmers. Together with the growers, the Mushroom Research Association of Malaysia was founded in 2000 and as the founding president she has highlighted the importance of mushrooms and the industry in Malaysia. She is well known for the research conducted which includes systematic and bioactivity of marine actinomycetes, mushroom biology and their bioactive metabolites, phototrophic bacteria for bioremediation and as a live feed enhancer. She has successfully trained 50 Masters and 20 PhD students and a number are currently pursuing their postgraduate studies under her supervision. Her research activities are sponsored by national and international grants including industrial funding. Prof. Vikineswary has won several awards for her research findings both in Malaysia and at International Exhibition. She has collaboration with overseas scientists through CICHE, JSPS and EU programmes. She has published 265 papers in peer reviewed journals, proceedings, bulletins, chapters in books and books. In recognition of her contribution in microbiology and active participation as member of the Malaysian Society for Microbiology she was elected as the first woman President of the Society in 2001. In 2014 she was nominated as one of the Top Research Scientist Malaysia by Academy Science Malaysia. In 2015 she was nominated as a Fellow of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia.
