Dr. Shani Ann Mani graduated in 1995 from The Tamil Nadu Dr.M.G.R Medical University, Chennai, India with a Bachelor in Dental Surgery and in 1998 from the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (Panjab University), Chandigarh, India with a Master of Dental Surgery (Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry). She is also a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons and Physicians of Glasgow. She enjoys teaching having been in academia for more than 22 years, teaching Paediatric Dentistry to undergraduate and postgraduate students. She was appointed the post-graduate coordinator in Paediatric Dentistry at the Faculty of Dentistry, University Malaya since 2014. She has been an external and internal examiner for both undergraduate and postgraduate students during her career. She is also keen in research and has authored about 30 articles published in international and national peer-reviewed journals, majority being indexed in the ISI Web of Science database, and also contributed to chapters in books. She routinely reviews manuscripts for international journals in her field of specialisation and is on the editorial board of the European Archives of Paediatric Dentistry, Malaysian Journal of Paediatric Dentistry and BMC Oral Health. She has also obtained research grants pertaining to her research in Paediatric Dentistry over the course of her career. She is a member of the Indian Society of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry and Malaysian Association of Paediatric Dentistry besides other academic associations.
show more »Dr Ina Ismiarti Shariffuddin is Professor and Senior Consultant Anaesthesiologist at the Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya. She obtained her MBChB from the University of Dundee, a Master of Anaesthesiology and a Master in Medical Education (Distinction) from Universiti Malaya, Fellowships in paediatric anaesthesia from KK Women's and Children's Hospital, Singapore, and certification in paediatric liver transplantation from Renji Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Ina is a strong advocate for perioperative patient blood management, sustainable anaesthesia, and advanced airway management and patient safety. Her leadership includes presidencies of the Malaysian College, Society, and Paediatric Society of Anaesthesiologists. She is the current President Elect for the Asian Society of Paediatric Anaesthesiologists and a member of the task force appointed by WFSA to develop its inaugural Leadership Module. During COVID-19, she led the Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Department at Universiti Malaya Medical Centre. Her pioneering work in Basic Life Support education earned her the “Ronald Harden Innovation in Medical Education” and “Rogayah Jaafar Innovation in Health Professions Education” Awards in 2024. She holds two patents and one copyright in Anaesthesia and Critical Care, underscoring her commitment to patient safety and innovation.She currently serves as Chief Editor of the Malaysian Journal of Anaesthesiology.
show more »Shangeetha Rajah Kumaran is a Senior Lecturer and the current Head of the Department of English Language in the Faculty of Languages and Linguistics at Universiti Malaya (UM), a position she has held at various times since 2021. She is also the Universiti Malaya Quality Excellence Index (UMQEI) assessor and the University's Programme Quality Assurance Expert (ProQAE), working collaboratively to enhance academic programmes, and improve standardisation and quality of documentation for accreditations. Due to her expertise in programme quality assurance, she has served as the Chair and External Panel of Assessor for the Full Accreditation of several programmes in various institutions. Her primary research interests focus on sociolinguistics and postcolonial literature, particularly, the sociolinguistic aspects of language use in literary texts, code-switching in various fields, language maintenance and shift among diasporic communities, and Malaysian Indian writings in English. Her current research work centres on translanguaging practices in the education and medical fields, as well as the visibility of languages in public spaces (linguistic landscape). She has authored and co-authored numerous articles and a book titled Diasporic Consciousness of Malaysian Indian Writings in English. She is also the recipient of the 2025 Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS).
