Dr. Mohd Khairul Naim Che Nordin is an Associate Professor at the Department of Usuluddin and Dakwah, Academy of Islamic Studies, Universiti Malaya. He obtained his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Islamic Thought from Universiti Malaya in 2014, after completing his Bachelor’s degree in Usuluddin at the same institution. His commitment to advancing knowledge is reflected in his participation in several academic and professional training programmes at distinguished institutions, including Mujammaʿ Sheikh Ahmad Kiftaro in Damascus, Syria, and Kulliyyah Dar al-ʿUlum, Cairo University, Egypt. He also served as a Research Fellow at the Global Ethic Institute in Tübingen, Germany.
His research interests encompass Contemporary Islamic Thought, Islamic Theology, Comparative Religion, Peace and Radicalisation Studies, and the study of Islam in relation to extremism and terrorism. In addition to his academic publications and teaching responsibilities, he has led and participated in numerous nationally funded research projects. These include studies on trends in terrorist and extremist thinking among Malaysian youth, Islamophobia in Malaysia, Integrative Spirituality, and youth and community development initiatives at Universiti Malaya. His research has contributed to policy discussions, educational interventions, and community engagement efforts aimed at promoting social cohesion, religious understanding, and resilience against radicalisation.
Dr. Khairul Naim has also been actively involved in academic consultancy, curriculum development, public engagement programmes, and interdisciplinary research collaborations at both national and international levels. Through his scholarly work, he seeks to bridge classical Islamic intellectual traditions with contemporary societal challenges, particularly in the areas of religious understanding, peacebuilding, interreligious relations, and the development of holistic approaches to human well-being.
