ASSOCIATE PROF. SR TS. DR. FARID WAJDI BIN AKASHAH

Farid Wajdi Akashah is an Associate Professor at the Department of Building Surveying, Faculty of Built Environment, Universiti Malaya, and a Senior Consultant at UPUM Sdn Bhd, specializing in fire safety, and building condition evaluations. In 2024, he was appointed as a Visiting Professor at the School of Architecture, Universidad de Navarra, Spain. He holds a Bachelor of Building Surveying from Universiti Malaya and a Ph.D. in Fire Safety Engineering from Ulster University. With over RM662,200 in research grants, his work has influenced fire safety policies, building codes, and risk mitigation strategies. He serves as one of Malaysia’s Representatives to ISO/TC 92/SC 4 Fire Safety Engineering and is a committee member for the National Standards Committee on Fire Safety and the Technical Committee on Passive Fire Safety Design under the Department of Standards Malaysia, contributing to both national and international fire safety standards. A lifetime member of IAFSS and MyRBS, he also serves on the UN-backed International Fire Safety Standards (IFSS) Coalition, supporting the Decade of Action for Fire Safety. A Registered Building Surveyor, MyCREST Qualified Professional, and certified Thermographer and NDT-UT Level I, he has led fire risk management, regulatory compliance audits, and building condition evaluations for projects exceeding RM6.88 million. Recognized with the Malaysian Young Building Surveyor Award (2016) and multiple Excellent Service Awards, he continues to advance fire safety, risk management, and regulatory improvements globally.

DR. SABRI BIN SULAIMAN

Dr. Sabri Sulaiman is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Anthropology and Sociology, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, University of Malaya (UM), Malaysia. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Social Administration and Justice with a minor in anthropology and sociology, a Master’s in Social Intervention, and a PhD in Social Services, all from UM. His Master’s thesis examined Social Deprivation and the Social Well-being of Malaysian Children.  His doctoral research contributed to the development of a Community-Based Social Care Model for Protecting Street-Connected Children. Dr. Sabri has collaborated with and consulted for ministries, government agencies, and international partners. Apart from research and teaching, he's also now a consultant for the National Population and Family Development Board (LPPKN). His applied research and advisory roles extend to civil society and international organisations, reflecting his commitment to linking research with advocacy and policy reform. Dr. Sabri’s research spans both local and international contexts, is grounded in child and family well-being, social intervention, protection, and rights, and is informed by sociology, social work, and evidence-based interventions and policy strategy. His work focuses on designing and evaluating innovative interventions and policy frameworks that strengthen prevention, protection, and welfare services, develop community-based social care systems, and advance inclusive welfare and rights-based protections for children, families, and vulnerable populations, including inclusive education policies for persons with disabilities in Malaysia and the Global South. He examines child protection and rights, including the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) and its impact on children’s lives in Malaysia and across ASEAN. He has also contributed to the creation of national frameworks for measuring child and family well-being, as well as the development of child rights indicators. These efforts have provided tools to monitor progress and inform evidence-based interventions and policy reforms. He remains actively engaged in research, postgraduate supervision, and consultancy in the following areas: Child, youth, and family protection, rights, and social determinants of well-being in local and global contexts Developing, implementing, and scaling evidence-based policy and social interventions that improve the lives of vulnerable children and families. Impacts of positive and adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) on health, behaviour, and social outcomes, with emphasis on prevention and intervention strategies to reduce violence, neglect, and at-risk behaviours Prevention of youth behaviour problems (including delinquency, antisocial behaviour) through community and policy interventions, and risk/resilience frameworks Improving access to services for children, families and vulnerable population to essential, specialist, safe, adequate and quality multisectoral services Legal, policy, and governance frameworks for child and youth rights (including UNCRC), and justice for children in conflict with the law, and violence, as well as increasing effectiveness of legislation, policies, national action plans and accountability systems for that groups Global governance and development of evidence-based intervention and policy for children and vulnerable populations, focusing on inclusion, equity, and social justice Identify risk and protective factors for health and behaviour problems across multiple domains Structural and policy responses to gender-based violence and its impact on survivor health and well-being Developing child and family indicator research in measuring well-being, deprivation, inequality and opportunity  Inclusive and comparative social policies addressing inequality, access, and behavioural outcomes among marginalised and at-risk populations Development of inclusive education and community-based social care models for children, youth, families, and persons with disabilities Cross-sector collaboration among social services, law enforcement, health, and education to strengthen care, protection, and social support systems Protection and rights of persons with disabilities, and other vulnerable populations Children’s and adolescents’ digital rights, protection, and inequalities in an era of technological change He is currently leading several major research initiatives, including A Study on Risk Behaviours in At-Risk Adolescents in Malaysia and Creating Inclusive Digital Education for Students with Disabilities in Higher Education Institutions in Malaysia. He is also the author of two forthcoming books: Community-Based Social Care Model in Protecting Street-Connected Children in Malaysia and Sociology Perspective on Justice and Care of Children and Families: Issues, Policy, and Intervention. Dr. Sabri’s work is internationally recognised. He is a member of the Association of Southeast Asian Studies in the United Kingdom (ASEASUK), the Social Policy Association, the International Society for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect (ISPCAN), the Malaysian Association of Social Workers (MASW), and the International Sociological Association (ISA). He has published widely in peer-reviewed journals, contributed to edited volumes, and presented at numerous international conferences. DR. MOHAMMAD KHAIRI MOKTHAR

Mohammad Khairi Mokthar is currently a Senior Lecturer at the Dance Department of the Faculty of Creative Arts at Universiti Malaya. He completed his doctoral studies at Universiti Malaya, specializing in ethnography with a focus on Terinai, a traditional Malay Classical Dance of Perlis. He holds a Master of Fine Arts in Dance Performance, with a major in contemporary dance, from Korea National University of Arts, (K'ARTS) Korea, where he was awarded a scholarship by the Korea Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism. His dance journey began during his teenage years when he was exposed to Malay traditional dance. He pursued his tertiary dance education at the National Academy of Arts, Culture, and Heritage (ASWARA), Malaysia, where he received formal training in various dance forms, including Malay classical and folk dance, Chinese folk dance, ethnic dance, and Indian classical dance. He completed his Diploma in Dance in 2010 and his Bachelor of Dance (Performance) in 2013 at ASWARA. In 2013, he made his debut as an Indian classical dancer with a Bharatanatyam Arangetram. He has also worked professionally, including as a principal dancer at ASK Dance Company and in England with the Shobana Jeyasingh Dance for the Classic Cut Tour in 2012 and 2013. He has received numerous awards and recognitions for his contributions to dance, including Best Choreographer in Full-length Work at the 12th BOH Cameronian Arts Awards Malaysia in 2015, 2nd prize in the Seoul International Dance Competition in 2015 and 2016, and being named one of the Top 10 New Generation Malaysian Cultural Dancers in 2017. In addition to his performance work, Mohammad Khairi Mokthar has also served as a part-time lecturer and coach at various institutions, including Sultan Idris Education University (UPSI) and ASWARA. He received The Shining Star Awards in 2019, organized by the Uniques Arts Culture and Heritage Foundation in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture Malaysia. In 2019, he collaborated with choreographer Mavin Khoo and TFA Inner Space Dance Company for a performance titled "I am Ravana" at Sadler's Wells in London. He is recognized as an educator, choreographer, dancer, and scholar in the field of dance.
