Biography | |
Dr. Faizul is an engineer and academic specializing in Mechanical Systems Engineering. He obtained his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Mechanical Systems Engineering from Kitami Institute of Technology, Japan in 1999 and 2001, respectively. He was awarded the Yoneyama Rotary International Scholarship for his Master's studies. Dr. Faizul pursued a doctorate in Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) at Tohoku University, supported by the Hitachi Scholarship from the Hitachi Scholarship Foundation, Japan, completing his Ph.D. in 2009. Dr. Faizul is recognized as a Professional Engineer (PEng) by the Board of Engineers, Malaysia, and holds the designation of ASEAN Chartered Engineer (ACPE). Throughout his career, Dr. Faizul has held administrative and management positions within the academic sector. He served as a Residential College Principal at the Universiti Malaya from 2010 to 2013 and later became the head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering from August 2016 to January 2019. He then took on the role of Deputy Dean (Research) in 2019 and has been serving as the Deputy Dean (Research) at the Faculty of Engineering since March 2024. Dr. Faizul has actively participated in international conferences, serving in various capacities such as conference secretary, conference treasurer, and advisory committee member. He was the President of the Malaysia Thermoelectric Society (MTES) from 2019 to 2022 and previously held the position of Vice President (Research) from 2017 to 2019. His research interests encompass thermoelectric materials and generators, lead-free solder alloys, and Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS). Dr. Faizul has published over 200 scientific articles and holds several patents. As a mentor, Dr. Faizul has supervised over 30 postgraduate students from both local and international backgrounds. He has also contributed as a reviewer for peer-reviewed journals and served as a technical committee member, invited speaker, and keynote speaker at various conferences. Additionally, he has examined doctoral theses from local and international institutions. Currently, Dr. Faizul is a Professor at the Faculty of Engineering, UM, and holds the position of Adjunct Professor at the Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) in Chennai, India, starting in 2023. |
