PROF. DR. ZUBAIDAH @ JUBAIDAH BINTI HAJI ABD. RAHIM

Prof Dr Zubaidah started her academic career as a tutor in 1975, a lecturer (1979–1988) at the Medical Faculty, UM (Biochem Department)  and then at the Dental Faculty, UM (1988 - now). She is instumental in setting up the Oral Biology Department and designing the oral biology course content. Besides teaching oral biology to the undergraduates which started in 1994/95, she also teaches basic dental science to the postgraduates. Her research interests include biochemical and physiological aspects pertaining to the oral cavity and oral biology. She has translated and written a number of academic books in Bahasa Malaysia. Her scientific publications include local and international journals.   She had been an external examiner (Postgraduate theses and Dental undergraduates) and an examiner and  Group Leader of the HSC/STPM examination.   She is currently the Honorary Treasurer (Asia Pacific Association on PBL in Health Sciences) and Board of Governor (Kolej SATT, Kuching). She has held positions as the Honorary Treasurer, Hon secretary and Commitee Member (Malaysian Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Society).   She has been in the committee of the Advisory Panel (Health and Medicine of Language and Literary Agency, Malaysia, reappointment of contract UKM Dental Lecturer and Professor and USM Advanced Medical and Dental Institute and is a reviewer of several scientific journals.   She had been awarded the Pingat Bintang kenyalang by His Excellency, The Governor of Sarawak, Tokoh maal Hijrah 2009 (Sarawak) Commonwealth Academic Staff Fellowship, CICHE grant, UM 20 and 30 years Service, Staff Excellence and Certificate, Visiting Lecturer (Oral Biology Dept, Newcastle Upon-Tyne University, UK), Visiting Fellow (Otago University), a Book Prize - main category (Malaysian Linguistic Society and Public Bank) and medals for joint research presented (MOSTI, UM and 33rd International Exhibition in Geneva).

ASSOCIATE PROF. DR. ESHAMSUL BIN SULAIMAN

Dr Eshamsul Sulaiman is an Associate Professor at the Department of Restorative Dentistry, University of Malaya. He graduated with BDS from the Queen’s University of Belfast, United Kingdom in 1997 and obtained his specialist training in Prosthodontics with Distinction from the Eastman Dental Institute, University College London, United Kingdom in 2004. His early training was in the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Restorative Dentistry at the University Dental Hospital, Cardiff, United Kingdom from 1997 to 2001. He obtained the Membership of the Faculty of Dentistry (MFD) from the Royal College of Surgeons, Ireland in 2000. Dr Eshamsul has more than 20 years’ experience in oral implantology and has been actively involved in the teaching of postgraduates in Oral Implantology since 2005. Dr Eshamsul has performed a variety of complex implant procedures involving guided bone regeneration (GBR), connective tissue grafting, sinus floor elevation, alveolar ridge preservation & augmentation, immediate implant placement in the aesthetic zone, partial extraction (root membrane) technique as well as managing mechanical complications post implant placement. He also incorporates computer-guided implant planning and placement in the management of his implant cases. Dr Eshamsul is also the coordinator and director of the University of Malaya Certificate of Oral Implantology course, speaker and instructor at many implant courses & workshops in Malaysia.  Dr Eshamsul has given many lectures both within and outside Malaysia. He was an invited speaker at the Asian Academy of Prosthodontics Biennial Conference (2021), Indonesia College of Prosthodontics webinar, Malaysia Oral Implant Association webinar, International Joint Pakistan Prosthodontic Association-Pakistan Association of Orthodontics Conference, Pakistan (2018, 2023), Malaysia International Dental Show (MIDS, 2023), 8th Malaysian Society of Periodontology (MSP) Biennial Scientific Conference (2023), VNU Dental Exhibition and Congress, Vietnam (2023), 31st Malaysian Dental Association Scientific Conference & Trade Exhibition (2024), 3rd Medan International Prosthodontic Scientific Meeting, Indonesia (2024), and 29th Malaysian Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons (MAOAMS). He is an active member of MegaGen International Network of Education and Clinical Research (MINEC) and was appointed as MINEC Honoured member in 2020 and a key opinion leader (KOL) for MegaGen implant system. Dr Eshamsul is also an examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons of England Restorative Specialty Membership & MJDF Examinations. Dr Eshamsul was one of the winners at the final round MegaMind Clinical Case Competition in conjunction with 15th MegaGen International Symposium 2022 held in Seoul and the finalist at the MegaMind Clinical Case Competition in 2023 in Antalya, Turkiye. He is currently the Head of Oral Implantology Unit at the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Malaya.

DR. CHEAH WEE

Dr Cheah graduated from Universiti Sains Malaysia with a BSc (Hons) in 2003 and a MSc in 2007. He obtained his PhD in Oceanography from University of Tasmania in Australia in 2012 under a scholarship from the Australian Government’s Antarctic Climate & Ecosystems Cooperative Research Centre. After submitting his PhD thesis in 2011, he was offered a postdoctoral position at Alfred Wegener Institute Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research in Germany where he lived in Bremerhaven until 2013. He then moved to Taiwan in 2014 after securing a two-year Academia Sinica Postdoctoral Scholar award. In 2016, he was again awarded another Academia Sinica Postdoctoral Scholar award and spent another two years at Academia Sinica. In the same year, he won the best oral presentation award for the Asian Region category at the 34th Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research Open Science Conference. Since 2018, he has been a Senior Lecturer at University of Malaya’s Institute of Ocean and Earth Sciences. His current research focuses on the changes in the atmosphere, land and ocean, and how these changes are affecting the oceans and marine organisms. He has participated in various international research voyages on board Australian, German, and Taiwanese research vessels including four in the Southern Ocean, two in the South China Sea, and one each in the North Pacific and Indian Oceans.
