DR. MOHD USMAN BIN MOHD JUNAIDI

Dr. Mohd Usman Bin Mohd Junaidi has been a dedicated researcher and senior lecturer in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the Universiti Malaya (UM), Malaysia, since 2016. He earned his BEng in Chemical Engineering from Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) in 2012, followed by a Ph.D. from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) in 2016.  In his academic role, Dr. Mohd Usman imparts knowledge across a spectrum of chemical engineering disciplines. His teaching portfolio includes undergraduate courses such as Thermodynamics, Mass Transfer, Physical and Analytical Chemistry, and Fluid Mechanics. Through these subjects, he emphasizes the integration of theoretical principles with practical applications, preparing students to tackle complex engineering challenges. Beyond his teaching and research responsibilities, Dr. Mohd Usman served as the Deputy Dean of Student Affairs at the Faculty of Engineering, UM, from January 2022 until December 2024. In this administrative capacity, he plays a pivotal role in enhancing the student experience, addressing student concerns, and fostering a supportive academic environment. Dr. Mohd Usman's research interests are centered on gas separation and purification, advanced material development, and green technology. He has contributed to the field through numerous publications in ISI-indexed journals, reflecting his commitment to advancing chemical engineering knowledge. Beyond his teaching and research responsibilities, Dr. Mohd Usman is actively involved in the academic community. He has collaborated with various experts, contributing to the advancement of chemical engineering. Dr. Mohd Usman's dedication to chemical engineering is evident in his comprehensive approach to education and research. ASSOCIATE PROF. DR. LOO FUNG YING

Loo Fung Ying is Associate Professor of cultural musicology and the Dean of Faculty of Creative Arts, Universiti Malaya. She teaches cultural musicology and research methodology. After obtaining her Fellowship (Trinity College of London) and Bachelor of Music (Hons) in piano performance (Universiti Putra Malaysia), she furthered her music study at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, where she received her Master of Music in Piano Performance with distinction. She studied piano under Michael Schreider, Barno Haknazarov, Larisa Rakhmanova, and Lillian Joseph, and had master classes conducted by Artur Pizzaro, Boris Berman, Irina Osipova, Julian Jacobson, Richard MacMahon, Olga Malissova, and Ng Chong Lim. As a pianist, her performances locally and abroad included the first piano concertos of Beethoven and Tchaikovsky under the baton of Zakhid Khaknazarov, recitals at St. John’s Smith Square and St. Martin-in-the-Fields, and a recording for Ceri Richard’s Themes and Variations published by National Museums and Galleries of Wales, UK. Fung Ying continues to pursue research in music and completed her PhD at the University of Sheffield, UK in 2009. Her research interests include cultural musicology, performance practice, popular music, music and movement perception, and Tai Chi in application to the physicality of piano performance.  She joined Universiti Malaya in 2009 and has published over sixty refereed articles and book chapters. Her work has appeared in International Review of the Aesthetics and Sociology of Music, Muzikološki Zbornik, Revista Música Hodie, Asian Theatre Journal, International Journal of Music Education, IEEE Multimedia, Women's History Review, Media Watch, Journal of Popular television, New Ideas in Psychology and The Routledge Companion to Women and Musical Leadership. Her research has been supported by grants from the Ministry of Higher Education, Universiti Malaya, and Universiti Putra Malaysia, and won her gold and silver awards at local and international research exhibitions. She is a member of the International Editorial Board of eTropic and Media Watch. She has held positions such as Deputy Director (Postgraduate study and Research) of Cultural Centre (now Faculty of Creative Arts), Universiti Malaya (from 2010 to 2018, and April 2024 to March 2025), Chair of Academic Programmes Accreditation Panel for PhD, Master’s, and Bachelor degree level (Malaysian Qualifications Agency), Internal Auditor of MYRA (Malaysia Research Assessment, Ministry of Higher Education), and Associate Editor of Malaysian Journal of Performing and Visual Arts. As an active composer and musician with the multiple award-winning Dama Orchestra (now Dama Asia Productions) from 2001 to 2016, she has over twenty productions to date, five albums and three sold-out musicals: Empress Wu, I Have a Date with Spring and Butterfly Lovers. In addition, her composition titled Freedom won second prize at the 2022 Seoul International Meditation Music Competition.

ASSOCIATE PROF. DR. SABZALI MUSA KAHN

Dr. Sabzali Musa Kahn was born in Besut, Terengganu, Malaysia. He graduated with a degree in visual arts from Universiti Sains Malaysia, Penang. He then pursued his Masters in Education from Universiti Putra Malaysia and he obtained his Doctorate (Ph.D) in Architecture Studies from Universiti Putra Malaysia. He started his career as a consultant in government and corporate sectors. He was one of the committee who founded Universiti Industri Selangor, Malaysia (UNISEL). In addition, he was appointed as the secretariat member to develop the master action plan for the Ministry of Unity and Development Community, Malaysia. His participation in various major exhibitions organized by universities, galleries, state and National Art Gallery has greatly enhanced his knowledge and experience as an artist. He is also involved with visual arts research, theatre and workshops in the aspect of creative teaching for the pre-school children, people with disabilities and in curriculum development of visual art studies at the university level. He has won several competitions in art and design. Some of the awards obtained were Main Incentive gift from Art Media exhibition 2006, Special Award Art Media VIII,2009 and Special award Art Media IX,2010. He is the gold medalist for Innovation and Creativity EXPO 2010, University of Malaya, Malaysia. In 2015, he won the national gold medal at Innovation and Invention Competition Through Exhibition (iCompEx) and Cahaya Kasih President’s Award from Maybank, Malaysia. His research on the use of new materials and techniques in visual art production has won him Excellence University of Malaya Award for 2015 under the Arts and Creativity Category. He held position as the head jury for batik art drawing category at the international level which was organized by Rehabilitation Council Malaysia (MCR). He represented Malaysia for visual art category and was the first Malaysian selected to be head jury in the 8th International Abilympic 2011 at Seoul,Korea. His ongoing effort and contribution has brought gold medal to Malaysia in the International Abilympic 2011. This has been a great achievement for the country at the international level to have won a gold medal for the last 32 years. Dr. Sabzali active participation in the social work at local and international level has made great impact to the society. Creativity activities and education based on visual art are incorporated into his social works. He was the Visual Art Coordinator and Deputy Director (undergraduate) at the Cultural Centre, University Malaya. Currently, he is the Dean at Academy of Malay Studies, Universiti Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
