Noor Hashimah Hashim Lim is a Senior Lecturer in Urban and Regional Planning at Faculty of Built Environment, Universiti Malaya, Malaysia. She obtained her PhD of Urban and Regional Planning from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and MSc Project Management from the National University of Singapore. Her research interest revolves around statistical modeling, examining the intricate interplay between environmental factors and human behaviors, with a keen emphasis on population health, climate-community resilience, participatory planning and digital urbanism. Her recent works include developing a virtual community mapping that captures people-place attachment, as well as engaging underprivileged B40 children in participatory design initiatives. Prior to being an academician, Hashimah has 7 years of industrial working experience in project management focusing on property development. She has also served as the Head of Research at a local think-tank in Malaysia producing policy briefs related to urban and rural governance, city planning and urbanisation issues.
show more »Dr. Muhamad Fazly Abdul Patah has been a distinguished member of the Department of Chemical Engineering, Universiti Malaya since 2012. Dr. Fazly obtained his BEng and PhD from the University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand. His primary research focus is on the production of sustainable chemicals and energy alternatives, specifically through the conversion of low-value materials and waste into valuable products such as char/biochar, liquid fuels, and hydrogen-rich gases. Dr. Fazly’s contributions to the field of chemical engineering and sustainability are substantial. His pioneering work in thermochemical processing and waste upcycling has established him as a leading researcher in the development of sustainable energy solutions. His publications and media appearances reflect the significance and applicability of his research, which continues to influence both academic and industrial practices. Dr. Fazly is actively engaged in supervising Masters and PhD research students, contributing to advancements in engineering and environmental sustainability. He has been involved in over RM 5.0 million worth of research projects, leading multiple national and international initiatives. The projects span several key areas including: Thermochemical Reaction: Including torrefaction, pyrolysis, gasification, combustion, and liquefaction processes. Chemical Upcycling: Transforming plastics, biomass, rubber, and municipal wastes into higher-value products. Ozone Gas Applications: For sterilization and water treatment. Catalysis and Chemical Reactions: Optimization of chemical reactions and reactor design. Hydrodynamic Simulation: Utilizing Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) for fluid flow simulation. Liquid Atomization/Spray: Both with and without reaction. Bioreactor Design: Development for mass production of medicinal mushrooms. show more »Siti Aisyah Samudin is currently a Senior Lecturer at the Syariah and Law Department, Academy of Islamic Studies, University of Malaya, Malaysia. She graduated with a Diploma in Syariah and Islamic Jurisprudence with honors class one from the International Islamic University College of Selangor in 2011. In 2015, she was awarded a Bachelor Degree in Syariah and Law with honors class one from the Academy of Islamic Studies, University of Malaya. She completed her doctoral studies in 2019 at the same university in which she specialized in Islamic tort and Islamic criminal justice. Her areas of expertise and research interests are Islamic criminal law, negligence, tort and consumerism. Her current research is on the need for an approach of harmonisation between diyya and existing compensation method including Malaysian law and insurance, to provide comprehensive protection to victims of road accidents. She is currently active in research and writing articles, especially on compensation for road traffic accident victims in Malaysia, the role of Insurance and Takaful as well as the potential of diyat in the area of damages. She was the recipients for Gold Medal Poster Exhibition Research University Malaya 2019. She is currently supervising 1 masters students and upcoming 5 PhD students.
