DR. CHEW SHIN YI

Biographical note: Dr. Chew Shin Yi is a senior lecturer at the Faculty of Languages and Linguistics, Universiti Malaya, Malaysia. She graduated with a B.Ed TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) degree from the University of Auckland, New Zealand and obtained her Ph.D. from Universiti Malaya under a fast-track programme. She has taught students from pre-school up to university level. Her interests include language learning & development, 21st-century learning, computer-mediated communication and computer-assisted language learning.  She is now working on projects related to the education of Indigenous community and Sustainable Development Goals. Her upcoming project, expected to begin next year, is titled "Enhancing Educational Equity and Engagement through AI-Driven Metaverse Environments (EduSphere)."

ASSOCIATE PROF. DR. MUHAMAD SHAKIRIN BIN MISPAN

Dr. Muhamad Shakirin Mispan is currently a senior lecturer at the Institute of Biological Sciences, Faculty of Science, Universiti Malaya, teaching BSc courses including Ecology and Management of Weeds, Soil Ecology and Management, and Quantitative Ecology. He also teaches MSc courses including Applied Weed Science, Pest Management in Organic Crops, and Tropical Crop Management. He received a bachelor’s degree (BSc) in Ecology and Biodiversity in 2006 and a master’s degree (MSc) in Biology in 2010 from Universiti Malaya. He is a PhD holder in Biological Sciences from South Dakota State University, USA working on QTL mapping for weedy adaptive traits in rice; haplotype analysis for a major seed dormancy QTL region in rice; and seed longevity and photoperiod sensitivity in weedy rice. His current research focuses are mainly on the ecological genetics of weedy rice focusing on adaptation to various ecological systems, seedbank dynamics and longevity, environmental impact from various weed management, integration of sustainable agriculture for rice production, agroecology, and precision agriculture in rice farming.

DR. LING TEK SOON

Ling Tek Soon is a senior lecturer at the Institute of China Studies, University of Malaya. Apart from teaching, he is currently working on a UMRG project in University of Malaya, entitle “Abode of Dead, Depository of Knowledge and Contested Realm: A Study of Chinese Cemeteries in Malaysia”.  Ling Tek Soon received his BA (Chinese Studies) and MA (East Asian Studies) from University of Malaya in 1997 and 2002.His thesis was titled “The Fundamental Ideologies of Deng Xiao Ping Conceming Reformation and Renewal since 1978" (Idea-idea Asas Deng Xiaoping terhadap Dasar Reformasi danPembukaan sejak tahun 1978). He was a tutor in the East Asian Studies Department, University of Malaya from 1998 to 2000 while working jointly as a n executive editor in The "Rosa Sintesis" Journal published by Centre of Malaysian Chinese Studies.  In year 2001, he worked as a Mandarin Lecturer in UiTM, Pahang. Subsequently, he  went on to pursue a Ph.D at Tsinghua University, Beijing in 2007. He received a doctorate degree in 2011 with a thesis titled “The Political Idea of Yangdu”. In the same year, he was appointed as a lecturer  in Institute of China Studies, University of Malaya.
