DR. MUMTAZ AINI BINTI ALIVI

Dr. Mumtaz Aini Alivi is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Media and Communication Studies, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Universiti Malaya. She earned her Bachelor of Arts (Hons.) with a double major in (i) Language and Malay Linguistics and (ii) Journalism from Universiti Putra Malaysia. She later obtained her Master of Corporate Communication and Doctor of Philosophy (Mass Communication) from the same university. Her research interests primarily focus on Journalism, Broadcasting, News, Online Media, Political Communication, and Mass Communication. Apart from her academic qualifications, Dr. Mumtaz has extensive experience in journalism, news broadcasting, and media industry management. She was a media practitioner for twenty-two years at Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM), a government television station. For almost twenty years, she was attached to the News and Current Affairs Department, where she held multiple roles, including Broadcast Journalist, Newscaster, News Editor, and News Producer. Throughout her career, she was involved in various high-profile assignments, including accompanying the Prime Minister and other national leaders for international news coverage, conducting live news broadcasts from Parliament, and reporting on other significant national events, in addition to daily news coverage. After completing her PhD, Dr. Mumtaz transitioned to a different role at RTM, serving as Assistant Director in the Policy and Research Section. She later assumed the same role in the Strategic Planning Section before being transferred to the Quality Control for Creative Content Unit as an Evaluation Officer. These three divisions operate under the Strategic Development Department, where she contributed for an additional two years before leaving RTM. With over two decades of experience in the media industry—particularly in television news, along with some experience in radio and media management—Dr. Mumtaz has made significant contributions to the field. Her dedication and passion for journalism were recognized when she won the Best Broadcast Journalist Award at the national level in 2001. In addition to her industry experience, Dr. Mumtaz has been appointed by several organizations for various consultancy and evaluation roles. She has served as a panel judge for the prestigious Malaysian Journalism Award, organized by the Malaysia Press Institute (MPI). She was also a panel member for Pitching Evaluation (Private) and a panel member for Screening (Syndicated) for RTM programs. In 2021, Dr. Mumtaz transitioned from media practice to academia, joining the University of Malaya as a Senior Lecturer. She embraced this new career path with a bigger mission—to contribute to nation-building by sharing her knowledge and experience to shape future leaders in journalism and media.

DR. CHOW UNG T'CHIANG

Daniel Chow Ung T’chiang (PhD) is a Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Languages and Linguistics, Universiti Malaya. He was the former Deputy Dean (Research, 2022) and former Deputy Dean (Research and Development, 2020-2022). His areas of interest include English for Specific Purposes and Critical Genre Analysis. He is currently involved in research projects on Professional Discourses and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Daniel is the Treasurer of the Malaysian Association of Applied Linguistics (MAAL), an affiliate of the International Association of Applied Linguistics (AILA), and the Treasurer for the AILA2024 Congress.

ASSOCIATE PROF. DR. KANAGI A/P KANAPATHY

Kanagi Kanapathy is Associate Professor of Operations and Supply Chain Management at Faculty of Business and Economics, University of Malaya. She was the Head of Operations and Information Systems Department from January 2020 to September 2021.Kanagi holds a Doctorate in Business Administration from University of South Australia. A versatile educator and researcher, she has about 23 years of teaching experience in higher education. She also held managerial positions in multinational companies for 10 years, in manufacturing sector prior to joining the academia. Kanagi has published widely in the area of operations and supply chain management in numerous ISI WoS and Scopus journals. She is a core member of Centre for Research in Industry 4.0 (CRI4.0), University of Malaya. Kanagi was a visiting research scholar at Lee Business School, University of Nevada, Las Vegas, USA. She has co-authored a book on Value Added Tax: Country Governance and Economic Efficiency and has contributed a book chapter, Eco-Innovation towards Sustainability in the book, Current and Emerging Issues in Operations Management. Kanagi was awarded the Highly Commended Paper of the year by Emerald Literati Network in 2016.  Kanagi has presented papers at international conferences, which include the reputable IEEE conferences. She has been invited to deliver key note addresses in International Business Conferences such as International Conference on Business, Economics, IT and Management’ 18 and International Conference on Multidisciplinary Research and Innovation (ICMRI 2023). She was invited as a speaker at Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP) 2019: International Training Course on Fostering Maritime Industry Management Through Industrial Revolution 4. She has delivered several virtual Guest Lectures (2020 -2022) at Adam Smith Business School, University of Glasgow and Hochschule Konstanz University of Applied Sciences, Germany (2023). Kanagi conducted an online Training Course on Productivity Measurement for Service-sector Organizations 2021, organised by Asia Productivity Organisation (APO), Tokyo, Japan. She held a consultant position for 5 months at Agile Management Consultancy, as part of Industry attachment in 2022. Kanagi was invited as a Speaker at APO’s productivity talk which was streamed live over APO’s You tube Channel in June 2023.
