I am currently a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Science and Technology Studies, Faculty of Science, University Malaya; currently teaching Policy and Management of Sustainable Development, Sociology of Science and Research Methodology. My current research interests revolves around: Responsible Research and Innovation: Embedding Reflexivity and Social Desirability for more sustainable outcomes in Research and Innovation; Applied Scientometrics for Decision Making: Tracking and foresighting scientific and technological trends in Sustainable Development for Research Policy and Strategy; and, Science Communication: Studying Stakeholder Engagement in Science and Technology Roadmapping for Sustainable Development. My research expertise focuses on comparative case studies as well as secondary data analysis of policies, research strategies and innovation systems at the sectoral levels for Agriculture (rice, palm oil, etc.), Herbal Medicine, and Renewable Energy (hydrogen, solar, etc.). I have been involved in consultation projects such as the National Bibliometric Report 2015, and STI Indicators Report 2016. I was also the Principal Investigator for the FRGS project on "Feasibility of Smart Agriculture in ASEAN: Investigating Social Dimensions and Policy Mechanisms to Enhance Technology Adoption and Upgrading in the Rice Sector." My previous lecturing experience was in UOW Malaysia KDU University College where I was involved in leading Postgraduate by Research programmes and Research Management. Prior to my PhD, I was in Corporate Communications and Journalism specifically in the Pharma/Biotech sector, as well as in providing Analytics and Media Monitoring services at Meltwater News.
show more »Dr. Ng Wei Leik is a primary care physician and senior lecturer at Universiti Malaya. His academic interests include pharmacogenomics and digital health, with a focus on applications relevant to primary care. In pharmacogenomics, Dr. Ng has been involved in studies exploring the role of genetic testing—particularly HLA-B*58:01 allele screening—to reduce adverse drug reactions in patients with gout. These efforts are part of broader collaborations with national health agencies to explore the integration of genomic tools into routine primary care. In parallel, Dr. Ng has contributed to digital health and e-learning initiatives aimed at supporting clinical practice and medical education. In the area of digital health, he has worked on symptom monitoring systems for COVID-19 and dengue, as well as decision support tools for managing low back pain. Dr. Ng is also part of an international research initiative focused on respiratory health, where he contributed to the development of a mobile-based early alert system aimed at improving asthma control using high-resolution air quality forecasts. His work in e-learning includes involvement in virtual patient simulations, interactive web-based modules, and regional e-learning collaborations. He has also participated in the development of evidence-informed e-learning resources for primary care physicians in Malaysia and Singapore. He is one of the coordinators for the university’s postgraduate Family Medicine training program, where he is actively involved in teaching, curriculum development, and assessment. He also serves as a regular research mentor with the Academy of Family Physicians of Malaysia.
show more »Dr. Fahad Saleem holds a Bachelor of Pharmacy and an MPhil in Pharmacy from the University of Balochistan, as well as an MBA from Iqra University, Quetta. He earned his PhD in Pharmacy Practice from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) in 2013 under the Faculty Development Program Scholarship. Currently an Associate Professor at the University Malaya, Dr. Saleem is actively engaged with several international professional bodies, including ISoP, ISPE, ISPOR, FIP, HAI–AP, ReAct, and INRUD. An accomplished researcher, he has published over 200 peer-reviewed articles, co-authored five books, and presented at more than 50 international conferences. His outstanding contributions have earned him multiple awards, including the Anugerah Sanggar Sanjung (USM), HEC Best Young Research Scholar (2016), Pakistan Science Foundation’s Most Productive Scientist (2017), Balochistan Excellence Award (2018), and Best University Teacher Award (2020).
