DR. CHUA KAH OOI

Dr. Chua Kah Ooi is now a lecturer in the Centre for Research in Biotechnology for Agriculture (CEBAR), Universiti Malaya. He completed his Bachelor of Science in Microbiology and Ph.D. in Molecular Microbiology from the same university. He was awarded the MyBRAIN15 (MyPhD) Scholarship Award from the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) in 2016 for his Ph.D. study. In year 2021, he was appointed as a postdoctoral research fellow in CEBAR. His research interest focuses on bacterial genomics and microbiome study on a variety of biological and environmental samples. He has experience in taxonomic characterization of novel bacterial species including symbionts of insects and environmental bacteria. Currently, he is committed to research on bioinformatics analysis of plant and animal organelle genomes, plant-arbuscular mycorrhizal fungal interaction and halotolerant plant growth promoting rhizobacteria from Malaysian mangroves.

PROFESSOR IR. DR. NAHRIZUL ADIB BIN KADRI

Prof. Ir. Dr. Nahrizul Adib Kadri is an academic, researcher, and community leader at Universiti Malaya (UM), where he has been serving as a Professor since January 2025.   Dr. Adib graduated with a Bachelor in Biomedical Engineering (BBEng) from Universiti Malaya in 2001 and earned his Master in Biomedical Engineering (MBiomedE) from the University of New South Wales, Australia, in 2003. He later completed his PhD in microengineering at the University of Surrey, United Kingdom, in 2011.   Research Interests   Dr. Adib’s expertise lies in BioMEMS, microengineering, advanced biomaterials, IoT, and artificial intelligence. His research focuses on developing low-cost, practical devices for cell population characterization and diagnostic applications. He is also actively involved in STEM communication and institutional visibility, combining his technical expertise with an interest in media and communication.   Research Achievements (as of 2024) - Publications: 87 ISI-indexed papers with 2,723 citations (WoS) and 4,464 citations (Google Scholar); H-index of 25 (WoS) and 32 (Google Scholar).  - Research Grants: Secured over RM800,000 in funding since 2015.  - Intellectual Property Rights:    - MIRY: IoT-Based Physiological Signal Monitoring Bracelet (Copyright, 2021).    - SAUNA32: Industrial Design and Trademark (2020).  - International research collaborations with Australia (AI), India (AI), Canada (biomaterials), Belgium (BioMEMS), and the United Kingdom (BioMEMS).   Awards and Recognitions   - The first recipient of the Anugerah Pelajaran DiRaja to serve as a Residential College Principal and Director of UM’s Corporate Communications Centre.  - Recipient of almost RM200,000 from various industries and agencies for community outreach projects.  - Recognized as Malaysia’s second expert in BioMEMS after Prof. Ir. Dr. Fatimah Ibrahim (Google Scholar).   Professional Affiliations and Consultancy   - Chartered Engineer (UK, since 2014) and Professional Engineer (Malaysia, since 2023).  - Advisory panel member for academic programs at UniKL and USIM.  - Executive Board Member of Yayasan Kebajikan Anak-anak Yatim Malaysia (YATIM, since 2021).  - Consultant for Merdeka Center (2024, RM15,000) and Universiti Tenaga Nasional (2023, RM72,000).   Community Engagement   Dr. Adib is deeply committed to community service, from providing tuition classes for underprivileged children to leading initiatives that feed the homeless. Through collaborations with UM students and NGOs, he has actively engaged with diverse community groups since 2011.   Personal Highlights   A recreational runner, Dr. Adib has completed two ultramarathons, two full marathons, and several half-marathons. Since 2003, he has lived on campus in his roles as a Residential College Fellow and Principal of various residential colleges. He currently serves as the Principal of Ibnu Sina Residential College (KK6), a position he has held since January 2024. Dr. Adib is deeply committed to enhancing Universiti Malaya’s institutional visibility. Since 2015, he has played a pivotal role in securing over 2,000 media appearances for UM, generating an estimated public relations value exceeding RM120 million. In addition, he contributes regularly to media publications, focusing on themes of positive living and mindset.

DR. MOHAMMAD ISMATH RAMZY MOHAMMAD ISMAIL

Short biography Dr. Mohammad Ismath Ramzy is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Educational Foundation & Humanities, Faculty of Education, University of Malaya (UM), Kuala Lumpur. He has more than 10 year’s experience in teaching, research and Academic thesis supervision He is the Chair of Education for Humanism and Social Advancement Research Centre (EHSAn), Faculty of Education, Universiti Malaya, and he served as an Editor of the Malaysian Online Journal of Educational Management (MOJEM-Scopus indexed)- (https://mojem.um.edu.my/) for more than four years. Dr Ramzy's background is in Intercultural and interreligious education. He obtained a Licentiate Certificate in Islamic studies from Jaamiah Nalemiah, Sri Lanka and completed undergraduate studies in Arabic linguistics at the Peradeniya University of Sri Lanka in 2001. He received a Master's in Comparative Religion from the International Islamic University Islamabad. He studied Shavism of Hinduism for his Master's thesis. Ramzy completed his PhD in Comparative Religion in 2012 at the International Islamic University, Malaysia (IIUM), where he studied the legacy of Ven. Prof. Walpola Rahula Thera of Sri Lanka to peaceful coexistence. Upon completing his PhD, Ramzy joined the Universiti Malaya (UM) as a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow in October 2012 in the Center for Cilivizational Dialogue, University of Malaya (CCD-UM). He was promoted to Research Fellow in 2013 at the same place. In 2015, Dr. Ramzy joined the Faculty of Education, UM, based on the merits of his research and publications. He is actively involved in research on Intercultural Competence. He has published over 60 research articles in reputed academic review Journals including social science indexed journals in educating different level of people on intercultural studies and governing the cultural and religious diversity. In addition, he has written several chapters of books and contributed seven entries to the Encyclopedia of Indian Religions (Springer Publication). He also co-authored a book published by UM Press in 2023.  Dr Ramzy supervises more than 26 PhD and 12 Master thesis and have evaluated more than 36 MA and PhD Thesis. Further he served as editor of Scopus indexed journal and reviewer of social science and other indexed journals. Dr. Ramzy has been awarded seven international honours for research and coordination and received a Southeast Asia Fellowship from The King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz International Centre for Interreligious and Intercultural Dialogue (KAICIID) in Lisbon, Portugal. In addition, he was recently bestowed a 'Senior Fellowship' at the Global Peace Institute in the U.K. Dr Ramzy served as visiting scholar in Prince Songkla Unviersity (PSU), Patttani from 24 April to 05th of May 2023 and the Research Scholarship Centre, King Khalid Unviersity (KKU), Abha, Saudi Arabia from 14-27 February 2024. He has been invited as a keynote speaker in many international seminars and conferences and has participated as a guest speaker at many international forums, including Britain, Australia, South Korea, Turkey, Qatar, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives. He has presented research papers at various international conferences, including Australia, the U.K., South Korea, Qatar, Turkey, Myanmar, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Maldives, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh. In addition, Dr. Ramzy has conducted more than seven international webinars on research. Dr. Ramzy is not only a researcher but also a peace activist. He is involved in Organizing interfaith initiatives in Malaysia and Sri Lanka and has also participated in programs conducted by the UNESCO Activity Club and various youth interfaith programs.
