ASSOCIATE PROF. DR. ZAWAWI BIN ISMAIL

Dr. Zawawi Ismail is an Associate Professor and previously the Dean of the Faculty of Education, University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He received his Bachelor Degree in Arabic Language & Literature (Major), Shariah (Minor) from Yarmouk University, Jordan, Post Graduate Diploma of Education from International Islamic University Malaysia, Master in Arabic Education and obtained his Ph.D. in the field of Education from the National University of Malaysia 2008. His research interests include Arabic & Islamic Education Curriculum, Teacher Education, Muslim Minority Education,  and Quranic Language Education. He has published articles in international and national journals,  books and other publications. Dr. Zawawi has contributed a lot to society and he is also active in several NGOs and one of the founders of Yayasan As-Syafie which is focusing on developing Islamic Boarding School in Cambodia and other educational activities in Indonesia and Malaysia.

ASSOCIATE PROF. DR. KAMAL AZRIN ABDULLAH

I, Dr. Kamal azrin Abdullah @ Kalai Arasu Muthusamy am an Associate Professor and Consultant Neurosurgeon at the University Malaya Medical Centre, Kuala Lumpur. I earned my medical degree (MBBS) at The University Of Malaya in 1995. I completed my 4 years of General Surgical Training and started my Neurosurgical training at University Malaya Medical Centre in 2002. I underwent subspecialty training in Functional Neurosurgery and Movement Disorders under Professor Tipu Aziz (a world authority in the field of Functional Neurosurgery and Deep Brain Stimulation) at Functional Neurosurgery group, Oxford University. Under the guidance of Professor Tipu Aziz and Professor John Stein (a senior Neuroscientist at Oxford University and a world authority on Dyslexia), I received my DPhil (Oxon) from the University of Oxford and completed my training in Functional Neurosurgery in 2009. I am currently the Head of Neurosurgical Intensive Care Unit & Functional Neurosurgery & Neuromodulation Unit at University Malaya Medical Centre. My Clinical Work focused mainly on Deep Brain Stimulation for Movement disorder such as Parkinson's Disease, dystonia and others. At University Malaya Medical Centre , we are the centre performing the highest number of DBS surgery Nationally & Regionally and are linked to global database. My research focused mainly on the advanced Parkinson s symptoms such as akinesia and the role of Pedunculopontine Nucleus in movement disorder. I also worked out the connectivity of the peduncolopontine connectivity in humans and non-human primates and their role in movement disorder. I have numerous publications in international medical journals mainly on the role of PPN in movement disorder as stated in my CV.

PROF. DR. KULENTHRAN S/O ARUMUGAM

Professor Kulenthran Arumugam is a Malaysian national, born on January 30th 1949.  He is married and has two children.  He graduated from University of Singapore Medical School in 1975 and completed his internship at the University Hospital Kuala Lumpur.  After serving 2 years as a Lecturer in the Department of Anatomy, University of Malaya he commenced his career in Obstetrics and Gynaecology as a Registrar in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, University Hospital, Kuala Lumpur and at the University of Aberdeen, Scotland for two years before sitting for and passing the Membership Examination to the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists  (MRCOG), London at its first attempt in January 1982.(He was elevated to a Fellow of the Royal College in 1995). He resumed his Academic and Clinical career as a Lecturer in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, University of Malaya Medical Centre in 1982.  He rapidly rose through the ranks and was appointed Associate Professor and Consultant in 1986 and to Professor and Senior Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologistin 1991. He was elevated to a Fellow of Academy of Medicine of Malaysia in 2008 In 2003 he found his niche in Clinical Epidemiology having read the Post Graduate Diploma in Epidemiology from the London School of Hygiene.  Completing his tenure in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, in 2008 he moved to Head the Research Development Unit of the Faculty in order to guide the Faculty Staff into Research in the Clinical Sciences. Also, because of his legal expertise in having read the LLB Hons (Lond), he teaches Health Law, Ethics and professional development to the Faculty. However he continues to keep in touch with Clinical Medicine with his colleagues in the Clinical Departments. Since his retirement from the University Malaya in 2015 he continues, as Professor Kehormat, to teach in the Faculty, Health Law, Ethics, and Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Furthermore, as a Consultant to the Research Training Unit of the Faculty he guides and trains the medical officers and academic staff in clinical research.
