Ts. Dr. Siow-Wee Chang is a senior lecturer in the Bioinformatics Programme at the Institute of Biological Sciences, Faculty of Science, Universiti Malaya, Malaysia. She earned her Ph.D. in Artificial Intelligence (AI) from Universiti Malaya. To date, she has published over 40 papers in reputable journals and conference proceedings at both local and international levels. Her research spans artificial intelligence (AI), data science, bioinformatics, and medical informatics, with a strong interdisciplinary approach that bridges life sciences, medicine, and computer science. She applies AI to advance biomedical research, focusing on disease diagnosis & prognosis, biomarker discovery, and drug discovery & repurposing. Her studies integrate AI-driven methods, multi-omics data integration, gene expression analysis, and spatial transcriptomics to identify potential disease biomarkers and therapeutic candidates. She also applies computational drug screening, molecular docking, and AI-driven predictive modeling to accelerate pharmaceutical research. Beyond biomedical research, Siow-Wee Chang applies machine learning and deep learning in agricultural studies, particularly in plant species identification and crop disease detection. Her works focus on uncovering patterns in crop data and analyzing their relationships, contributing to advancements in precision agriculture, plant health monitoring, and data-driven farming solutions.
show more »Dr. Sakinah Awang @ Harun is a Senior Lecturer in the Medical Education Research and Development Unit (MERDU) at the Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya, Malaysia. She is first Dean of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Sciences at IJN College for the 2023/2024 academic session. Since 2018, she has also served as the Head of the Graduate Certificate in Cardiovascular and Thoracic Sciences (GCCVTS) program and continues her role as a Lecturer 2011/2024 at IJN College, IJN Holding Malaysia. With extensive expertise in curriculum development specializing in education sciences, cardiovascular and thoracic sciences, as well as general and cardiothoracic intensive care nursing, Dr. Sakinah has made remarkable contributions to medical and nursing education. Her work spans advanced nursing in critical care, cardiovascular technology, perfusionist technology, cardiovascular imaging, cardiovascular intervention nursing, and healthcare education and training, showcasing her dedication to advancing these specialized fields. Dr. Sakinah earned her Doctor of Philosophy in Curriculum Development with a specialization in Education Sciences from the Faculty of Education, Universiti Malaya. She also holds a Master’s degree in Education, specializing in Curriculum Development, from the same institution. her Bachelor of Science degree specializing in Nursing Practice Development from the University of Northumbria at Newcastle, completing her studies from 2007 to 2010 She is a certified auditor for the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) and the Nursing Board Malaysia since 2016, further emphasizing her expertise in ensuring high standards in education and healthcare training. Throughout her career, she has actively designed, developed, implemented, and evaluated accreditation program, short-term programs, clinical workshops, symposiums, and research publications. Her responsibilities include developing future academic programs, evaluating student performance in clinical settings, and serving as an examiner for both structured and unstructured programs. She has been a certified "Train the Trainer" by the Human Resource Development Corporation (HRDF) since 2013. A critical care practitioner since 1998, Dr. Sakinah has specialized in general and cardiothoracic intensive care nursing and remains an active member of professional organizations, including the Malaysian Society for Simulation in Healthcare (MaSSH) and the Malaysian Association of Education in the Medical and Health Sciences (MAEMHS). She is frequently invited as a speaker at MaSSH simulation conferences and annual meetings, sharing her insights on advancements in healthcare education.
show more »Dr Cheah graduated from Universiti Sains Malaysia with a BSc (Hons) in 2003 and a MSc in 2007. He obtained his PhD in Oceanography from University of Tasmania in Australia in 2012 under a scholarship from the Australian Government’s Antarctic Climate & Ecosystems Cooperative Research Centre. After submitting his PhD thesis in 2011, he was offered a postdoctoral position at Alfred Wegener Institute Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research in Germany where he lived in Bremerhaven until 2013. He then moved to Taiwan in 2014 after securing a two-year Academia Sinica Postdoctoral Scholar award. In 2016, he was again awarded another Academia Sinica Postdoctoral Scholar award and spent another two years at Academia Sinica. In the same year, he won the best oral presentation award for the Asian Region category at the 34th Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research Open Science Conference. Since 2018, he has been a Senior Lecturer at University of Malaya’s Institute of Ocean and Earth Sciences. His current research focuses on the changes in the atmosphere, land and ocean, and how these changes are affecting the oceans and marine organisms. He has participated in various international research voyages on board Australian, German, and Taiwanese research vessels including four in the Southern Ocean, two in the South China Sea, and one each in the North Pacific and Indian Oceans.
