PROF. DR. MOHD RAIS BIN MUSTAFA

  The main focus of   Mohammad Rais’s research are in the areas of Cardiovascular Pharmacology, Natural Products and Drug Discovery. He has published several articles in international peer-reviewed journals and at the same time highlighted the pharmacological actions of  several local medicinal plants  including daun ketum (Mitragyna speciosa), cekur (Kaempferia galanga) and kacip Fatimah (Labisia Pumila).  These studies have been made possible by a series of R & D grants which he  successfully obtained under the Malaysian Development Plans and High Impact Research Grants (UM). To promote a more systematic and collaborative research in natural products in University of Malaya, Rais  helped established the Centre for Natural Products Research and Drug Discovery (CENAR) in 2003.  He has also a keen interest in basic science research, particularly in the area of Vascular Pharmacology.  His current research include investigating the role of novel angiotensin peptides, nitrates and nitrites, flavonoids and several phytochemicals in the improvement of endothelial dysfunctions in hypertension and diabetes.     Selected Publications   Autophagy through stress-activated signals: a cellular self-defence mechanism against MBIC in human breast cancer cell-lines. PROF. DR. CHUAH CHIN TIK

Professor Jason Chuah FRSA SFHEA holds the Chair of Commercial and Maritime Law at the City Law School, UK. He has recently been appointed as a Dean of Faculty of Law at the University of Malaya, Malaysia. He was the holder of the Cambridge Commonwealth Trust Award, Barclays Bank Scholarship and the Cambridge Commonwealth Fellowship at Cambridge University. His PhD looked at the influence of the need for commercial certainty on the judicial development of commercial and maritime law. He also has a Professional Certificate in Export with Distinction from the UK Institute of Export. He holds a First Class Hons degree in Law from the University of Malaya. He has written thirteen books and well over 200 articles. He is editor of several international journals, including the Journal of International Maritime Law, International Company and Commercial Law Review, International Trade Law and Regulation, Shipping & Trade Law, International Transport Law Review, and Finance & Credit Law. He has served on research councils in the UK, South Africa, Poland, Canada and Colombia. His work has been cited by institutions in the UK, US, EU and Asia. He is also Executive Director of the London Universities Maritime Law and Policy Group. He has been involved in various consultations with the Ministry of Justice, the OECD, the ICC, the Association of British Insurers, the UNCITRAL, etc.

PROFESSOR IR. DR. HAZLEE AZIL BIN ILLIAS

Hazlee Azil Illias was born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He received Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from the Universiti Malaya, Malaysia in 2006. He immediately joined Freescale Semiconductors (M) Sdn. Bhd. as a product engineer before pursuing his PhD studies in 2008. He obtained PhD Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Southampton, United Kingdom in 2011. He was a Senior Lecturer from 2011 to 2016 and an Associate Professor from 2016 to 2024 at the Department of Electrical Engineering, Universiti Malaya. Currently, he is a Professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering, Universiti Malaya. Since joining the Universiti Malaya, he has received funding and grants of nearly RM 3 million (~USD 0.7 million), published more than 70 journal papers in ISI-indexed publications and 70 refereed conference papers and successfully supervised to completion of 13 PhD, 6 Master's Degree by research and 27 Master's Degree project (by coursework) candidates. He is currently an Associate Editor of IET Science Measurement and Technology (since 2019), the Head of Universiti Malaya High Voltage Laboratory and Research Group (since 2011) and the Counselor of IEEE Universiti Malaya Student Branch (since 2018). His current management post at the Universiti Malaya is the Director of Corporate Ranking Centre (CRC) under Associate Vice Chancellor (Corporate Strategy). He was the Head of Department of Electrical Engineering from September 2013 to July 2014 and the Secretary of IEEE Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation Society (DEIS) Malaysia Chapter from 2015 to 2019. He is now a Senior Member of IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), Fellow of IET (Institution of Engineering and Technology), Corporate Member of IEM (Institution of Engineers Malaysia), a registered Chartered Engineer (C.Eng UK) and a Professional Engineer (P.Eng Mal). He is an active reviewer for numerous high-quality journals, which include publishers from IEEE, IET, Elsevier and IOP. His main research interests include modelling and measurement of partial discharge phenomena in solid dielectric insulation, condition monitoring, insulation system diagnosis, lightning overvoltage, transmission line modelling, optimisation methods and artificial intelligence techniques.
