S. M. Kayser Azam was born in Pabna, Bangladesh. He received a BSc in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the Khulna University of Engineering and Technology, Bangladesh, in 2013. He obtained an MSc (research) in Electronics Engineering from the International Islamic University Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in 2019. He earned his Doctor of Philosophy in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the Universiti Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in 2024. He is now working as an academic staff in the Department of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Malaya, Malaysia. He had experience working as a Power Engineer at Huawei Technologies Ltd. He has authored and coauthored numerous articles in top-tier journals and reputable conference proceedings, with several receiving Best Paper Awards. He serves as principal investigator and co-researcher on various internally and internationally funded research projects. His research interests include applied electromagnetics, antenna sensors, microwave components, chipless RFID, partial discharge diagnosis, IoT sensors, and transdisciplinary areas. He is an active reviewer in several IEEE Transactions and Journals and Elsevier's Measurement Journal. He is an IEEE member and specifically involved with the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society.
show more »Siti Zaidah Zainuddin is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of English Language. Her primary research interests include genre analysis in both written and spoken academic discourse and the incorporation of corpus linguistics method in academic and professional discourse. In the field of language learning, she works on second language writing using several perspectives and frameworks and teacher-learner interaction. Her main publications address various topics on academic discourse practices including language and rhetorical strategies in oral defense and thesis writing by postgraduate learners, corrective feedback, and teacher agency in online classrooms. Other publications are on graduate employability and sociolinguistics. Zaidah holds several research grants focusing on genre studies in academic and legal discourse and teacher agency in language classrooms. She has taught both the undergraduate and postgraduate programs including Research Methodology, Fundamentals of Linguistics, Discourse Analysis, and Introduction to Sociolinguistics. She is a member of the Asia-Pacific LSP & Professional Communication Association, Malaysia Association of Modern Languages and Malaysian Association of Applied Linguistics and has presented in international conferences namely LSPPC and ALAK. In addition to teaching and research, Zaidah has served as an undergraduate (UG) program coordinator, Industrial Training coordinator for the English Language Department and the coordinator and consultant for various language programs with local and international institutions and organizations. She is currently the Deputy Dean (Student Affairs and Alumni).
show more »Surinderpal Kaur is a Professor and the Dean of the Faculty of Languages and Linguistics at the Universiti Malaya, Malaysia. She holds a PhD from Lancaster University, UK. With a career spanning over three decades, she has made significant contributions to the fields of linguistics, critical discourse studies, and multimodality. Her expertise lies in Critical Discourse Studies and Multimodality, with research interests spanning discrimination and prejudice, particularly in migration, Islamophobia, far-right extremism, terrorism, gender, and sexuality. She has been invited to speak by the Director-General of the OIC on Islamophobia at the UN for the International Day Against Islamophobia in 2024. She has also been invited to speak on Islamophobia by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic. She has published extensively in reputable journals, contributing to the global understanding of how discourse shapes and reflects social realities. Currently, her work centres on climate change communication and education, reflecting her commitment to addressing pressing global challenges. She is also the Co-Chair of the University Malaya Committee for Climate Change which functions as a part of the technology advisory panel for Climate Change for the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability. As Co-Chair, she is focused on ensuring that UM obtains observer status at the Conference of Parties for Climate Change, and also for UM to take the lead in climate-related research in the nation. She is also the SDG Champion for Climate Change for Universiti malaya. She has represented Malaysia and UM at COP29 (UNFCCC) in Baku on Humanising Sustainability. She is currently the Dean of the Faculty of Languages and Linguistics at UM. She is also the Acting Chair, and Vice-Chair for the Malaysian Language Deans Council, and is leading the taskforce for all public universities on Technology Enhanced Language Learning (TELL). She is committed to embedding digital humanities in the teaching and learning of languages and is focused on establishing a Digital Humanities Centre at the faculty, which will be the hub for TELL for the nation and ASEAN. Beyond academia, she is actively involved in capacity-building initiatives for Punjabi and Sikh youth in Malaysia, fostering leadership and community development. Her career reflects a deep commitment to inclusive education, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the application of linguistics to address pressing social and environmental challenges. She continues to shape national and international discourse on the critical role of language in society.
